I think its because most people work off the motivation. When you begin you will have a lot of motivation and its great to have this because it makes working on the game fun but in reality you just need self-discipline. You wont feel motivated the whole time and its important that when you don't, you still continue to work on the game.
Lets also remember a lot of roblox developers are young. The largest project they have ever completed was their maths homework, so to create a full game is a big jump from that and thats why they often don't finish what they start/quit.

    • @SmartyRBX
      @SmartyRBX  Před 7 měsíci +31

Some very good points. If you rely on discipline and long term results rather than short term motivation, and use the strategy in the video, you can go far.

Been so motivated to do something, then with the size, density, coding, being a one man army, it is beyond, its too much, so it just dragged me down and left. Its better to start small with something completely boring and get the hang of something overtime, than to jump into something you think your prepared for but you know deep down its going to be far too difficult.

This is very true knowing for most game developers on roblox.
As a roblox game dev, it's pretty hard at first but it's fun. Even though I already archived like 3 or 2 games in a row, and got my account 1 day suspended due to the copyright music back then, it got me so frighten to make a game again that it almost made me give up on developing a simple game in the process. But from all that, I still get on my feet no matter how many times I post-poned my game due to lack of helpers or scripting experience. I stick on mostly on what I'm good at like building objects, animation, and npcs just for the sake of my social hangout game. For me, I wouldn't mind my roblox game to be low or trend, but for all of you as beginners in roblox game devs, what matters in game developing is that YOU'RE having fun.

Honestly making smaller projects can be fun, but it's not always for everyone, what i mean by that is that making a game that isn't interessing you isn't really great, basicly i'm doing the biggest part of my project, and when i get drain out of building for example i switch to modeling, then switch to animating, then back to building, then art design and then back at it, but i completly understand people that want to start small cuz seeing all the things you have to do to make a big game can be scary.

    WOW!
Developer here, I made a game years ago called Blox-verse Unlimited (Spiderman Game) in 2018. The game blew up and got a ton of positive feed back. I tried to keep the game updated but lack of funds kept me from focusing on it more and on top of that I was the only scripter and 3D modeler.
I could not update it because I was burnt out, I could not enjoy programming it , since programming physics was soo Hard! So I kind of left it to die...
I wanted to experiment other games, I wanted to get inspired and enjoy programming again!
Recently I made a game called Dead Town, I Had put so much effort on it because the game was rather much easier to make! On release week, I could not maintain a single player! The game did poorly and I thought it deserved more, but all that work, all those lines of code, money i spent to make it (3 thousand dollars) and the time to make it (2 years), just for it to flop. I was solo on this project too.
I wish this video showed up sooner, I really enjoyed the "MVP" part, it just makes sense.
I hope this video helps other developers like me, Thank you for this video.❤

I've added Power-ups and types of obby so it's not the same sh*t like the most engaging category and keeps the player active on the game like you said in your video.
Thank you so much for helping me with your video because it gave me a HUGE adventage and i've made a pretty good game for now but it's not finished yet and i feel so proud of making this.

i used to be like that but now i started out organized and it’s going really good actually, just like you’re saying in the video i decided to make a simple semi arcade semi realistic survival game, then if it makes money i can buy my own pc (me and my brother share computers) and then i can work full time on my projects.
my advice would first be to learn basics of coding (variables, loops, functions and statements) this might sound silly but starting with scratch is really good, then you can learn luau syntax, then learn about the roblox game engine (how to modify assets in certain ways) then go your own way.

Roblox is just almost impossible for smaller developers, the terrible dev-ex rates and etc.
You have to be a big corporation to do this. Advertisement, catchy and addictive gameplay is needed, but motivation just wears down.
I've switched from Studio to Unity though. Also, I feel like when I was using studio, I felt like I was not making that much progress, because advertisement is difficult for low robux, and it's usually a waste. After making 10K robux, it's just tiring and I cannot really convert it. The marketplace tax is just terrible.

i would like to have a moving button, so i go through the time to learn vector3. I wanna make my codes more complicated and tidier, i use locals. i develop both the game and me.
this is really effective because your constantly developing the game, which is progress, and it feels really good, motivating you to continue further

I have been making a game for a year, I have not even finished modeling the map because I am making 4 other games. The problem is, I can't script. The project I am working on is a Remaster of Find the Doges, I thought I could finish it in 2 years, but I'm starting to think it's gonna be 3 years. Thank for this help, because although it might be the same amount of time as I just mentioned, this could help me learn how to make the game and hopefully learn a little bit of scripting. Thanks.

I cant disagree but to say, this is true at first we all have like motivation to create such a game we are imagining
like were planning out how it looks, how the game works, the plot, the UI and stuff, we are like so excited and motivated to do this so when we start making it on the first day, we have so much confidence, we make so much progress, then we take a break after the first part and the next following day, we develop on it again, we keep repeating this until to the point your slowly starting to lose motivation, this actually happend to me but the game turned out great, though its not released it has had a few testers and it goes good so far, my game has been in development for a month already, and it should be done by the point since a month is 30 days, and that is alot of time to work on and script on a game, though it may seem pretty early for just a month for a game to be released and other games take like, way longer but still, i could have done so much but yet lost motivation, the last time my game was ever developed on was like a week ago, im thinking if i should go on studio and make more progress onto the map and add more features, but yet i also dont have the motivation to, idk how to describe this technically but yeah.
I've been pretty shocked by myself by seeing so much people quitting already, to the point it also has reached and affected me, but like i think the reason is like (not really sure) is the effort we put onto our games, and once it gets released, it barely gets recognized, so we think its not good enough and we need a new game, so we make another one and we keep doing it over and over, until we get a game that can actually sustain at a decent popularity, or yet atleast people playing it and liking the game so far, but it literally gets tiring.

very late to this video unfortunately but i have my own little story with developing on roblox for a time
i remember when i started my hobby as a game dev back in roughly 2018 and i used roblox as my primary platform for a couple of years and began working on a project that lasted for roughly 3-ish years ( the game was remade like 3-4 times because i would have massive jumps in improvement and then scrap my visual assets. very bad practice ofc and it wasted so much time but i was still very inexperienced and wasnt really taking game development as seriously at the time )
the entire premise was initially to be a roleplay game i would play with my friends but the focus then shifted to combat which ended up adding an ungodly amount of complexity to the game
however i ended up really falling out of it in late 2022 because i was starting to realize how this platform wasnt really suited for what i wanted to do and i wanted to be respected more as an indie dev than a roblox dev, so i ended up switching through a few different game engines before finally picking up Godot and remaking the game from scratch
roblox is an okay platform for making games, but its definitely not for everyone

i desided to move from roblox studio to unreal engine for a bunch of reasons but mainly is because i have a very ambitious game and the engine is not gonna hold all the content i wanted to put in and if i managed to get it to work i bet that the general roblox comunity is not interesed in games with depht story and complicated mechanics, ive seen alot of games like that die in less than a week after they explode in popularity and im not the type of person that makes multiple games to see which does better or which gets more money, im more of the one that picks a singular project and makes it something that i like and enjoy, and with the general gaming comunity i think i got more chanses to make a big game than in roblox, i know the roblox engine is a good one but i think people are not using all its potential, and when they do the game just lives for weeks or if theyre lucky months and then die such as games like rolling thunder etc, so i think main problems are those and finding a trust worthy team

I'm a former amateur Roblox Developer that worked mostly in the SCP Genre from 2015-2020, and now no longer do any creative work aside from things I do for fun; if I don't want to, I don't do it.
When I first started developing, I was a modeler for an up-and-coming Foundation group that had just started becoming popular because of the high amount of content and overall gameplay design quality of its sites. Back then, I figure a lot of them took it a lot more serious because they were young and it was a lot of social pressure, but the stress I was under was immense, and all caused by a small group of people that were genuinely mentally disturbed.
I worked with them for 3 years, but over time the command structure fell apart and people became husks of their former selves. Other developers fell through on deadlines, and eventually so did I and then after a while, I was one of the only developers left for the group. Everything I'd put my heart and soul into the past few years was just gone now, and it sucks because I didn't really open any doors for myself. I already have good developer friends either way, but my entire development journey has been seeing idea and creations I've spent a good portion of my life stressing on, working on, worrying about, fall to ashes and forgotten.
I did some paid intern work for a larger game designer that I was put in touch with by a friend, but thats about as far as I got, made a few hundred bucks in a couple weeks though.

I think about quitting because of the endless bullsh|t and policy changes that ROBLOX throws at us. The biggest example being the marketplace policy change debacle that happened back in September, and so far we still haven't really gotten closure on it. Other example being things like the ad changes coming in 2024, audio policies, asset privacy, ect...
I'm constantly wondering if my games going to get deleted because of a policy change that forces me to update my assets within 7 days and a few slip through the cracks, or if an image we have in it looks slightly too much like something from a copyrighted ip, or even if a moderator is just having a bad day. Constantly asking myself "Is it worth doing this if there's a risk of it just getting taken away out of nowhere?" isn't something I want to do on this platform, but that's what I do because this is ROBLOX.
That's why I find myself losing motivation. Because why would I bother doing this if ROBLOX makes it as hard as possible to be a dev here, and that's not even talking about their extortionate taxes on sales.

There was a game on roblox called Vibrant Venture and it was a 2d platformer not seen basically anywhere else on the platform, you basically quick switch between 4 characters with their own move sets mid jump to do complex maneuvers, it was extremely high quality. They; however, stopped working on the game on roblox. It is now a game made OFF roblox that can be found cheap on Steam. It is still currently in development and is AMAZING. Very high quality and far surpasses the roblox version. It has a level editor and everything, it is SORELY underrated and I want more people to know and buy the game. It sucks as a lot of these devs go off roblox just to be forgotten about. Roblox takes massive cuts from their devs and also practically lock them in this toxic relationship.

As a dev who quitted like 5x i kinda agree but, The biggest wall we deal every day is:
Script dind't work or you don't know how to solve the problem!
sometimes all you wanted was- UNDERSTAAND how to create for example, an annoying perfect inventory IN YOUR STYLE , The way you wanted it, pickup system, pvp arena, COMBAT styles, how to make the freaking perfomance-wise gameplay without balls leak and lagging everyone
so many details, and when everything is almost fine:
we got Hackers, oh no, here we go again, imagine creating over 80k lines script, and needing to add more 40k just on security, i'm talking like that because the game i'm working on is an Mmorpg, like warcraft, deepwoken, some minecraft and terraria mixed together
xd LOL! but way different, no copyrights, i just absorb some ideas, im smart, not a copier
i really love the mmorpg games and sandbox ones, whenever i stop and start DAYdreaming about my game complete (5% of gameplay lol) i just enter in a voidzone of toughts and thinkings, then i get motivated all again, i'm 23 years old and i will continue my journey, because my dream is Make The Game, make it happen, i don't really care about popularity or smh, i just want to see what is to have a game made by yourself, oh yea im a Indie developer here, i'm doing all the tasks alone (ooof)

to be honest, it also might be because of funding and ect, most game developer's want to make money of doing what they love however with roblox, you can't really do that since you can't get actual money easily to live you're life, so they might of either went to a different game engine (like unity or unreal engine) to make money so they are able to get essentials like food and water in the future, or it could be because of burnout, since alot of the time when i try to make roblox game's, i can barely even get through 10% of the game, and it's been happening so much to me that it's kind of just getting annoying that im unable to finish anything. However this could not be the case, we don't know.
