    I got a used 106 pdl sportsman last year for $1800. The guy only had it a couple of months and it was like new. I spent 100$ on a spare propeller,an insert for the hole where the pdl goes, a stainless steel bolt for the rudder, and some spare pins for the propeller from Navarre kayak fishing. I sold my RS117 and haven't looked back. I love fishing out of it. 👊👍

    I have two kayaks, a 2020 Hobie Outback and a 2020 Wilderness Tarpon. I got the Tarpon first but got tired of paddling long distances. I finally splurged and bought a Bixpy electric drive ($1500). It was great but the Hobie was so heavy to get on top of my 4Runner. Even launching over the bulkhead at my house on the bayou. I have now mounted the Bixpy on my Tarpon. Easy to launch (65 pound Tarpon verses 120 pound Outback). I can go long distances effortlessly at 5 mph. I can steer the motor so having no rudder is not a problem. I don’t fish big lakes so stability is not an issue (Hobie is noticeably more stable). The Tarpon is designed to paddle so it is very nimble in the saltwater marshes I fish, and if the drive stops (I got a fishing line hopelessly wrapped on the prop once) it is not a barge to paddle home. I have had no problems with the Bixpy in the two years I’ve owned it. Very well made and engineered. I probably fish 75 times a year.

    Just got my 120PDL today and wow I am impressed already. The quality is much better than any kayak I have ever owned and I have not even got it on the water yet. Was surprised too with no seat and drive installed it's not crazy heavy. Comparing that to my dad's Hobie he got, that thing is insanely heavy. Look forward to all your upcoming vids for these kayaks!

    I upgraded this year to the 136 autopilot from an 11.5 Feel free. Old Town is Legit. 136:is super Stable. At 50 years old I don't stand in fish in a kayak but for the younger nimble this kayak is very doable for that. The Minn kota with spot lock is super amazing. I was lucky to get it $1,000 under retail due to it being a floor model. Definitely a kayak you want to trailer and I do with a nice little Malone setup. Just recently found your channel. Love the content..I also have the wilderness system crate though I am thinking about picking up the 16x16 black pack as it is more accessorizable.

    One thing about the Oldtown is it’s Rudder flex in strong current. It needs to address the small weak rudder. Plus when deploying it just doesn’t work well (dropping down). I hope they come out with an new kayak model that more easily to upgrade instead of having to drill into your hull.

    I'm going to go with either a Nucanoe Unlimited or the little skiff they sell at the TinyBoatNation store. I currently have a DIYak made from a 10.5' foam sailboat hull. It's not streamlined and requires a rudder and a keel. Made a drop-in keel and a fold down, fixed rudder from wood. Mounted steel rails to it for seat and accessory mounting, and have a bass boat fold down swivel seat on it. It's ok, but I wouldn't take it anywhere remotely far or in even slightly rough water. No rivers for me at the moment.

    I've had my PLD106 for 1 year and use it at both extremes of trolling deep water with a downrigger and sight fishing shallow panfish. I only wish it was faster. Of the entire PDL lineup it is the slowest hull. The number 1 mod for a PDL are the pedals. You can swap out the foam covered plastic pedals for any mountain bike pedals. Bike pedals have more grip and and are much smoother with bearings.

    The one way scupper plugs actually work extremely well, evacuating water, on the Predator. Keep them in. Some people don’t like them, I loved them. Just take them out occasionally and flush out the dirt. There’s a little rubber disk on the bottom to allow water out but not back in.

    Both are cool yaks. I don't know much about either. So just had to many problems with Hobie 360? Or just wanted to try something else? The 360 drive seems like earlier ones had more issues & newer drives are better. Like all things. They will be improved over time. I've only owned Hobies pa12s over past 10 years. Including 360. In my experience with regular maintenance which isn't that much. They have been reliable. But like all things, will eventually break or have issues needing fixed over time. I fish 1-2 days a week 12 months out of the year. Good luck with new yaks, I'm interested in seeing how they fish& preform.

    I have the Sportsman 120 PDL and a couple of notes:
    One other plus for the Old Town PDL is the 5 Yr Warranty on the drive (vs the Hobie 2yr) and Limited Lifetime warranty on the hull.
    Also, you can take your string that connects your seat adjustment and un-velcro that front section to tuck the string out of the way from the under-seat storage area.
    Finally, the drive unit floats if it pops out of your kayak (if you happen to tip and it wasn't locked in). Some nice perks.

      @@aaanglers He makes great stuff! I’ve bought quite a bit from them. The $70 for the mounting kit kind of hurts my wallet. But, I guess that is the life of a kayak fisherman! LOL.

    Hey I love your channel, I’m a northern boy myself from the lovely Hoosier State just trying to get into kayak fishing because my brother suggested it. I am 6’4” 235lbs and I want to get an old town sportsman but should I go with the 106 or 120? There isn’t a spot near me to try out either of them in the water but I was able to sit in the 106 in the store. I’m worried about stability being as I am so tall, less worried about the weight aspect

    • @aaanglers
      @aaanglers  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Stability is similar between the 2. Mainly just the amount of storage changes

    This was a good video man. I like both kayak. I am looking for a pedal drive kayak but I can't get one because I have big very very Extremely wide feet 🦶 with very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe & the pedal are not wide enough for my 6 1/2 inches wide feet 🦶 I have. I can't find any wide pedal or anything that would work. I do have a question? I like the sandals you was wearing in the video at 1:50. What kind of sandals are those cuz I would like to get me a pair. I have to kayak barefooted 👣 because I can only wear flip flops 🩴& Flip flops 🩴 is the only footwear that will barely and I mean barely fit on my feet 🦶 because my toes are wider than the flip flops 🩴straps & I don't want to break the only footwear that will barely fit me. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
