I think the tri-fold makes more sense on short-bed crew-cab mid-size pickups. It takes up a lot less space when folded back versus retracted and makes more used of the limited bed length.

That extra money is definitely something but I think in the long run it is worth it to get the retractable cover. the individual locking mechanism allows you to access the truck bed without opening the tail gate every time. for someone who use this a truck more as a family vehicle and use in the city, I prefer having direct access to the truck bed by opening the cover than having to open the heavy tail gate every time

For the price a trifold all day. Mine came in yesterday. $670 delivered. I do hate the drain tubes. If they made a near flush trifold with out the drain tubes I would prefer those. Had those in the past. So easy to remove the entire top with no tubes necessary.

I would go with the folding unless you have the longer bed. The short bed is too small to carry much as it is without the cover and the retractable limits your ability to carry loads. The retractable bed cover is ok for people that drive a truck and never fully use it as it is intended.

    • @ColeCulture

Niether...I rock an ARE truck cap. Love it. Last pet peeve....I don't like they did away with the small dial knob to reduce the flow thru the hvac vents. I've noticed when I have my air conditioning on, the middle air vent blows much stronger, probably 70%, as compared to the drivers side vents about 30%. So what happens now is my right side of my face freezes, while the left side hardly gets any cold air. With the small knobs, you use to be able to adjust the flow along with direction to even things up a bit. Thoughts? I look forward to your pet peeve video in the future. Take care and keep up the good work! Peace....

I want the retractable as it looks high-tech and posh design but saw elsewhere cleaning can be a pain and depends on the quality or brand.
The tri-fold is easier to clean and maintain but tend to get flimsy or warp due to weather but then also depends on brand.
