    ----------------------------
Greetings, greetings. Eric Bakker, the naturopath from New Zealand, where we've had our recent mass shooting. It's pretty bad. Thank you for all the emails and kind words from people who have reached out to sympathize with people in New Zealand.
We've had quite a awful ... Last week we had 50 people passed away because of terrorist activity involving two mosques. So thank you for those comments. They've been greatly appreciated.
Now we're gonna talk about LES, or lower esophageal sphincter. This is a topic many people have asked me about, about reflux disease and about all sorts of problems with swallowing, and burping, and bloating, and feeling sick, and things like that.
So you've got this sphincter muscle, this round muscle, that contracts and closes off down at the bottom of the esophagus where the stomach is. It basically stops the contents of the stomach from coming back up again.
The lower esophageal sphincter works really well with most people, especially if the person is not obese, overweight, if the person's not highly stressed, if the person isn't drinking 30 cups of coffee a day, like one of my patients were drinking, or eating a large block of chocolate every day like many patients I've seen over the years.
People who smoke excessively, people who eat lots of chocolate, lots of mints, have lots of coffee, lots of very powerful things in their diet over and again; and particularly larger people can have problems with their sphincter, and that can make it quite saggy-aggy, quite loose, and not closing off properly, and that can give reflux. It can end up giving you a sour taste in your mouth, a burn in your throat, a sick feeling.
Some people get chest pain out of it, they think they're having a heart attack with this reflux disease. So GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease can happen because of LES problems, or lower esophageal sphincter not really closing off properly.
What are some of the key things you can do to strengthen the LES? How can you make it stronger? To begin with you need to eat the right kind of food because, hello, if you're gonna drink 20 or 30 cups of coffee a day, you're gonna have a lot of problems, not just with your stomach but with your kidneys and your blood pressure, and all sorts of stuff. So if you're not eating right, you've got to do it right if you want to get good digestive health.
When I wrote my book, Candida Crusher, I did write a section in it about not eating too fast, not throwing everything down the throat like it's a kind of cement mixer. Some people have got no idea; they'll have a cup of coffee, then they'll have an ice cream, they'll have a piece of chocolate, they'll have a glass of wine, they'll have a slice of pizza.
They seem to think that magically everything in here just seems to digest, but when you start getting problems with your digestion you should start thinking what did you do that contributed to those problems.
Going to the doctor's not going to help because you'll only get put on a proton-pump inhibitor like Nexium, like a drug that blocks acid production. That's not the answer. Guys are graded doing this. I've talked about this before, about the John Wayne school of health.
For the older people who remember a western actor called John Wayne. John Wayne was the sort of guy that would get shot and get back on his horse and ride off in the sunset as if everything was okay.
Don't be like that with your health. When you have a digestive problem think why it was caused, or what did you do, what did you eat. Did you just get fired and then go and have a big piece of pizza and a couple of cans of beer? Maybe you got all stressed out and upset. Something happened to cause that problem.

Doing "Apan vayu mudra", empty stomach 2 times a day for 10 minutes will help in GERD and other digestive issues. Doing "Chandra bhedi pranayam" will also help in GERD, sleep 2 hours after dinner. Perform "vajrasan" for 5-10 minutes after taking meal and take deep breaths while performing "vajrasan".

Hi sire, I have created GERD after an endoscopy. Is that possible sire?
Or can it be rebound acid? I toke PPI 2 months for my duodenal ulcers, gastritis, duodenitis and esogafitis. I stopped the PPI 7 weeks ago because everything was healed.
Then 4 weeks later i got another endoscopy because i was so nauseous (withdrawal symptom of the PPI i guess) . They couldnt find anything just some red scratches. After that endoscopy, one week later i created a lump in the throath.
My symptoms are better taste in the mouth, globus feeling, mild heartburn.

Hello Doc, been suffering from GERD for my whole life! Prilosec and Nexium made my situation way worse. Been on the holistic path for the last 10 years. It's worked wonders but I've realized my LES is open. Was thinking about the Fundoplication surgery but I'm leery of it. How can I close it on my own?

    • @canxida
      @canxida  Před rokem

Fundoplication surgery is often recommended for patients who suffer from severe symptoms of GERD or a lax lower esophageal sphincter, which do not seem to improve even after taking appropriate dietary and lifestyle precautions. If you are suffering from persistent symptoms, you can definitely consider this surgery for better results. However, it is still advisable to first try natural methods such as eating your dinner early in the evening and elevating the head side of your bed and choose a surgery only when these methods do not work. This will help you avoid the common complications associated with surgical procedures.

Hello Doc. Thank you for very good video.I am a bodybuilder and in recent years I have problems having those sudden urges to pass urine and being able in some instances to contract the pelvic muscles fast enough to stop leakage.
Additionally for about 18 months just when wake up trying to fix my shoe laces I do pass the winds.
I have been doing some pelvic floor muscles excercises and I feel I can contract them for longer which means they are stronger.
However my condition is not improving. I do also drink only two cups of coffee daily and some tea but no too much water.
Some proctologyst told me that because pressure when lifting heavy weights it has resulted in developing this condition.
    Is that possible?

This is called Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and it is caused by sitting for excess periods of time, squating heavy weight, and benching heavy weight. I developed this only when I started getting into weight above 225 around the 315 range for bench press and I don't try to really lift heavy. If you lay off the weights the function does eventually return but it takes a good while. I thought I had a unrinary tract infection because I had testicular pain on both sides and it was Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. It does cause urine to leak and erectile issues. Key to getting better is walking more, not sitting as much, not straining so much on heavy lifts or lower the weight. Pregnant women actually develop this as well after childbirth.

      H. Pylori infection is very common. It is true that some studies have estimated the incidence of this infection to be as high as 50%. However, in most cases, the infection is very mild and often left undetected. Some common signs of mild infection can be pain in the upper abdominal region, bad breath, and hyperacidity. It is possible to avoid this infection by increasing your intake of unhealthy fats and spicy foods. It is also advisable to increase your intake of nutritionally dense foods to prevent this infection. An effective test to confirm the diagnosis is a biopsy.

One question I need answered is I've been taking prilosec for about 6 months. I've improved alot. No more pain when swallowing. I just got off it to test my acid reflux and I still get it a little bit. I've lost weight and my BMI Is very good now. I've quit smoking for about 4 months now. Before I used to smoke marijuana daily. Should i go back on prilosec? I feel like i should if i have any heartburn because that tells me the acid is maybe past my LES right? My gastroenterologist said hes taken prilosec for like 10 years and says theres really no side effects. I've seen a bunch of people online saying it could be bad to keep taking antacids like prilosec. It's hard to take anyone's advice on this.

@@canxida thank you. So I've heard after you've been taking it for a while and then stop abruptly your stomach makes a bunch of acid right after for 3 weeks. So my acid reflux is stabilizing and for the most part I think it's just about gone. Only comes up after coffee or some preworkout powder. I'm trying to go vegan for a bit because I've heard it's great for Inflammation. Having a damaged esophagus really really sucks so thank you for trying to help people with this problem. If anyone has this problem and wants it fixed they need to stop smoking for atleast 6 months because the smoke damage destroys our throats faster than it heals. Dont think you can out heal it cause you wont. I tried and felt like it was making scar tissue. So I cant emphasi6enough that smokers need to quit asap before the damage is irreversible.

No. You do not have to do surgery every 5 to 10 years if you have no symptoms. Certain lifestyle modifications and dietary changes can help support LES function. Strategies to strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter include maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding food triggers, and eating smaller meals. Certain foods and beverages, such as fatty or fried foods, spicy foods, citrus fruits, caffeinated drinks, alcohol, and carbonated beverages, can weaken the LES and trigger reflux symptoms. Limiting or avoiding these trigger foods can help reduce the GERD symptoms. Smoking weakens the LES. Quitting smoking is essential for improving LES function.

thanks Eric I had lower sphincter problems it all raised its head when I developed low tone deafness in the ear that I laid on every night, the acid entered my throat and then ran down the Eustachian tube and damaged the inner ear, it may even have entered the cranium, as I kept getting runny ears possibly cerebral fluid which went crusty over time, constant rushing noise in the affected ear, I saw a ENT doctor who seemed to just write me off saying I was getting old deal with it, do you think I should get a CT scan of my head, im on top of my Esophageal problems but the LPR took some time to deal with, I couldn't understand why the entrance to my Eustachian tube was either sore or crusty, occasionally I would wake and taste blood in my throat, then I realised pepsin was laying in wait in the tissue to do its evil deed, many thanks for the vids most helpful

Hi Paul, Here's the answer to your question: You can do a CT scan of head to detect any abnormality which could be affecting your hearing. However, this test will not help you diagnose acid reflux into the Eustachian tube. You should, on the contrary, try to reduce hyperacidity and acid reflux by making changes to your diet and lifestyle. Avoid the intake of fried and spicy foods and adopt appropriate sleep habits. Make sure you do not lie down for at least 2 hours after eating food for allowing enough time for the stomach to digest food. Also, sleep in a propped-up position to avoid acid reflux.

I actually stay in the fight/flight mode, so much to the point I now have male pelvic floor muscles issues. However I see my gastroenterologist ( he normally does stomach scopes on me every 2-3 years for Barrett’s Esophagus ) he has me on Pantoprazole 40mg daily ( I couldn’t do the Nexium etc. Is there a way for me to control this naturally? I quit drinking soda ( I limit myself to 1-2 cups of coffee per day and that’s it ) I was told to cut out milk, all grains, all processed foods etc. Would this be a start in the right direction? Edit: I do take VSL#3 probiotics ( I believe it’s more of a superfood than it is a probiotic, I could be mistaken of that though ) any help would be appreciated greatly

    • @canxida
      @canxida  Před rokem +1

Hi there, One of the best ways to avoid the fight-flight mode is to focus on improving your mental health and promoting relaxation at the mental and physical levels. I recommend trying natural relaxation techniques such as yoga and meditation to improve your mental health and avoid stress. This will help promote the secretion of feel-good hormones such as dopamine and serotonin and reduce the secretion of the stress hormone called cortisol in the brain. The favorable balance of these hormones in your nervous system will induce mental and physical relaxation and help you avoid being in the state of fight-flight mode. @@canxida Thank you for this information. I know without a doubt you are correct. It has just been a extremely stressful and difficult past few years. I was diagnosed with Barrett’s Esophagus ( which is under control ) but then later I developed horrible migraines. Finally after surgeries ( and stem cells ) I was diagnosed with Occipital Neuralgia. My father passed away. Just a lot of things happened. I tend not to deal with things and just let them build up. My pastor friend told me to do yoga and it would help me stay calm, and I would learn breathing techniques and things like that. Like today I had to stay out of work due to the migraines. After $400K worth of surgeries ( which my insurance company took care of ) I still have the migraines. I’m 21 and had this problem since I was 14. I didn’t know it was GERD cause my symptom was coughing until I was 18. Obviously since I didn’t know, I didn’t do anything to change my diet or take meds for it. But after 18 when I got diagnosed for it I’ve been on and off medications, fixed my diet entirely, and still have the same issue. I’ve had random periods of time in which it would go away for maye about a month, but then it’s back. Consistent medication helps as long as I’m eating really well but it’s so bad to be taking it this much at this age. I don’t even know what to do anymore. I took caffeine out of my diet, sleep on high pillows, you name it, but I still can’t even speak for more than five minutes without my voice becoming scratchy. On some days when I accidentally don’t eat for several hours or eat a trigger food the coughing come with heavy mucus and even wheezing.

Hi there, Managing severe reflux can be challenging. Do not worry. Making changes in your diet and lifestyle will help you get relief. Try the elimination diet to identify specific foods that trigger reflux. Common triggers other than coffee include spicy foods, citrus, chocolate, and fatty foods. Eat smaller, more frequent meals instead of large meals to reduce the pressure on the stomach. Avoid eating 2 to 3 hours before bedtime to prevent nighttime reflux. Drink fluids between meals rather than with meals to avoid overfilling the stomach. Elevate the head of your bed by around 6 inches to prevent acid reflux.

Hi Muhamet, If you have a lax or weak lower esophageal sphincter, making healthy changes in your diet could be a great way to avoid the symptoms. Eat your dinner at least 2 hours before bedtime and lie down keeping your head elevated to avoid the backward flow of stomach acid in the throat. For better results, use CanXida Restore and Rebuild to heal your stomach mucosa and enrich your gut flora. However, if these methods do not produce the desired results, you might have to consider surgery to avoid the regurgitation of the acidic stomach contents as this could cause esophagitis.

Hi, Thank you for waiting. Here's the answer to your question: I agree it can be difficult to fix a loose sphincter since it is a structural change. You can minimize the damage by preventing acid reflux. Make sure you do not lie down for at least 2 hours after eating food for allowing enough time for the stomach to digest and push food forward into the intestine. Also, sleep in a propped-up position to avoid acid reflux. You can also perform yoga to improve your posture and breathing exercises to strength the diaphragm. Try these simple treatments to improve the strength of the sphincter to some extent. Please feel free to email us at support@canxida.com if you need any further information. Hello Eric, I am a 61 year old woman and have had this problem for decades. I have been to many doctors including naturopathic ones. I am told that I am intuitive about my health and so I would like to share my "sense" of what happens to me. I understand that you can't diagnose someone you haven't even seen. If you could possibly give me some suggestions as to what to look into since I don't know where to turn. First, you should probably know that I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome in case that is playing a part. I have been overweight (25-30lbs) and then due to a green shake suggested to me by my last naturopath (who retired sadly) seemed to magically lose weight (25lbs) to a point that was comfortable for me. I maintained it for more than a year when I could no longer tolerate the shake or any of the supplements that she had put me on as they all caused me extreme pain to digest. I hit my 60th birthday and everything went downhill again as I over indulged in birthday related celebrations and haven't been able to get it under control or stop eating all of my trigger foods (sugars, fats and gluten) for a year now and have gained 25 pounds. Even when I am being pretty controlled, I continue to gain weight and even when my weight is constant, my stomach keeps getting larger and I am now 2 sizes larger than I was just a year ago mostly in my stomach. Now, the intuitive part: When I finish a meal, I quickly start to feel like what I swallowed is very rough and hits an irritating and very sensitive area 3-4" above my belly button. In around 20 minutes the pain goes away entirely. This is what triggers my eating too much. The pain feels like hunger so I eat another meal which somehow makes me feel better. Intellectually , I know that it is more food than I need but the hunger/pain discernment is confusing. I don't believe that I am having reflux since this doesn't cause any coughing or sense of things "coming up". Instead it feels like the "going down" is what is painful. I am someone who tends to have opposite reactions to medication or over sensitivity to many substances. I am very wary of having an endoscopy and most doctors have suggested very invasive actions that I feel will be harmful due to my EDS. Please if any of this is familiar to you or if you have any sense of what it could be, I would greatly appreciate your feedback/suggestions. I just signed up for your candida report so please feel free to email me at the address I signed up under beginning with my first name. Thank you for your consideration.
    Take care, Sher

      @canxida  Před rokem +1

Achalasia is a rare condition that can make it difficult for foods and liquids you eat to pass through the esophagus and enter the stomach. Achalasia can occur when the nerves in the esophagus are damaged. There is no cure for this condition. Most patients need surgical interventions to avoid complications. However, the symptoms can usually be managed. If you are diagnosed with achalasia, you need to adopt appropriate dietary and sleep habits. Make sure you do not lie down immediately after eating food. You can also perform yoga to improve your posture and breathing exercises to strengthen the diaphragm.

I am a vegan, I was given Zantac many years ago when the doctor did not know what helicobacter pylori was. From then onwards my sphincter has never worked. Always stays open. Currently I am on a water fast but the sphincter still stays open. Sleeping is a huge issue. I have done everything you mentioned, Apple cider vinegar, lemon, bitters, and all kinds of probiotics, kimchi, Kefir, sauerkraut all home made. I have done yoga on daily basis which helped a bit. What else can I do? I like the non invasive surgery but afraid and do not have money to pay for it. Any exercises for sphincter strengthening? Thanks, much appreciated.

      i have the same problem.
can’t lay on the left side, correct?
or bile backs up into your stomach and it catches fire. i know if well unfortunately.
how are you now? have you have luck getting your pyloric valve to function properly?
i’ve been watching many videos on the vagus nerve and it controls all the sphincters in out body, but i think our problem is that the h. pylori may have caused inflammation around that area, and the sphincter muscles may have scar tissue. in my nonprofessional opinion, the pyloric valve area has to heal so it functions properly again.
massaging that area and vagal nerve stimulation, and a clean diet will help.
like dr. bakker says, things like chocolate and coffee irritates the LES. if it irritates the LES, i tend to think it can irritate the pyloric valve and ileocecal valve as well.
as a matter of fact i’m positive it does.
my brother in law can not eat much chocolate at all because his hemorrhoids get fired up.
id love a reply from you, hopefully it will be positive.
      good luck

Hi Eric. Thank you for the video. I am worried about drinking lemon triggering acid reflux or even my doctor suspected gastritis which he put me on ppis for. I've been on them since February and my symptoms have not gotten better. The hospital recently did a CT scan and inflammatory marker and said I dont have gastritis. So, I'm guessing LES is my problem. It's uncomfortable in the epigastric region and sometimes i vomit my food right away because i feel so full. I've tried the diaghramic exercises and they help at the time but I still feel so full even when not eating. I'm also severly constipated but my naturopath said not to take digestive enzymes right now. However, I have so much gas and bloating and the doctor gave me PEG laxative to take everyday. I did used to over eat and my "flare up" happened shortly after an immense amount of food in January for a week. I also smoke cigarrettes but I stopped drinking alcohol for almost two months. I dont know what to do. What are your recommendations for me? I am hoping to get an endoscopy soon. Also my stool is yellow which maybe is because of what you said...I have been severely stressed and maybe it's not allowing me to digest? All of my imaging and lab work is fine. Is taking omega 3 oil supplement with lemon flavouring okay?

I have a burning spot, that has a numbing biting pain underneath my right rib cage, and underneath my sternum. Especially hurts when I'm sitting, and after I eat.
I have had an endoscopy, and a very serious MRI. I've also had a Kat scan.. Nothing shows up.
I'm getting very discouraged. It's like I can take my finger and put it directly on the burning spot when it is flared up. Sometimes it feels like there's a dripping feeling underneath my skin, and sometimes the skin itself even hurts to touch it, sometimes it itches. Can you please help?

Ironically none of the things you mention fit me.. I’m not overweight, are really well, no excessive coffee.. I guess maybe excessive stress caused mine. I was diagnosed with Gastritis and Esophagitis and my Gastro dr said I have acid reflux which is caused because my LES is weak.. He also said the only fix is surgery but I don’t want to accept that so came on U tube and lo and behold I found your video..I follow a low acid diet which helps my symptoms but I need to figure out how to strengthen the LES..
