Then rinse-and-repeat until the monster is dead. For lower level Nekkers and Drowners, the maxxed-out Aard can actually blast them into pieces (especially if paired with a Blizzard potion).

    A few tips:
    1) Some miscellaneous quests are missable if you progress too far in the story or if you don't react to a given event fast enough, basically if you see someone in distress yelling for help, don't wait til later, they may be dead and you may miss the quest. If you see a Quest icon above their head or on the mini-map though, you can safely wait til later.
    2) There's not really a wrong way to build Geralt, Combat, Sign, Alchemy, and Hybrid builds are all viable ways to play, and they will change how you approach certain encounters.
    3) Don't skip on Gwent, it's one of the most fun side activities in The Witcher 3, if you have trouble figuring it out there's tons of guides and youtube videos to help you.
    4) Don't be afraid to start on higher difficulties, you can change difficulty at any time in-game
    5) Loot everything that isn't within sight of a guard. Nobody will get mad, and you will need everything you can get your hands on. If you open a container close to a guard it will warn you that they are watching, otherwise loot away! You can even loot containers next to guards and then run like hell (hold the run button) and if you wait a day and return they will have calmed down.
    6) Fast Travel is useful but always look for opportunities to do the traveling yourself, this gives you more opportunities to explore and find new things.
    7) A lot of quests have multiple resolutions to them, always save before you do a quest and if you feel like you weren't happy with the outcome, reload and try different choices.
    8) The questions at the start of Chapter 1 where you are interrogated simulate Witcher 2 choices, if you don't know which options to pick, the best thing to do is say that you A) Spared Letho, B) Spared Aryan LaValette, C) Saved Triss, and D) Saved Sile, these will offer you new side quests and story events where-as the other choices do not.
    9) When choosing a romantic partner for Geralt, be aware that your choices have consequences if you are too... greedy.
    10) Try not to sell alchemy or crafting reagents unless you have a surplus of them (usually like over 20) since some ingredients are rare or expensive and may be hard to replace when you need to.
    11) The Orens and Florens you pick up in loot are extremely valuable, in Novigrad there is a money changer who will give you Crowns for these currencies making them a great pick-up.
    12) Despite Chapter 1 being arranged in such a way to suggest you go first to Velen, then to Novigrad, then to Skellige, you can actually pursue these out of order and go to any of these locations at any time you wish. Be aware Novigrad and Skellige tend to have higher level quests but you will still find content even at lower levels you can accomplish.
    13) Made a mistake assigning points to Geralt? There's a potion of clearance for sale for 1,000 crowns in a few alchemy shops that will reset all your points for you.
    14) If your first playthrough, you should invest points in Axii Delusion up to level 2, because it opens up more dialogue choices for you to resolve conflicts. This is the only skill that affects dialogue.
    15) Enemies do not play fair in fights, when facing multiple enemies, they will try to circle you and attack you from the back. Always take out ranged attackers first. Attackers with heavy weapons or shields will stagger you if you press the attack too much, leaving you open. Do not try to just spam attack buttons, you will need to let up, dodge away, use signs, use bombs, use your crossbow, take potions, and maneuver around to ensure you are in a spot you can maintain an advantage. It's very easy to die if you don't approach combat tactfully.
    16) Spend time exploring new areas, looting everything, and following POIs on your map and quests for new gear diagrams. You can unlock the ability to craft very potent gear to help Geralt, swords, armor, potions, bombs, and more.
    17) Always keep repair kits on you, having your main weapon break mid-combat is awful if you don't have a way to fix them. If you are out of combat though, don't waste these, travel to a blacksmith and have them repair your gear there.

    1. Loot everything.
    2. Parry or use axii against shields.
    3. Parry during fistfights.
    4. Quen and gourmet are your bestfriends specially on higher difficulties.
    5. Removing upgrades will not return your runes and glyphs, dismantling will.
    6. Trophies weigh a lot. Sell or put them in a stash.
    7. Don't fight dogs/wolves unless it's necessary. They do tons of damage, quick to evade, and you get useless trash when looting them.
    8. Falling damage maybe Geralt's greatest enemy, but it is nothing in front of *THE ALMIGHTY ROACH.*

1 Whilst learning to block attacks is a good idea and is something that I, someone who prioritises attacking over defense, have struggled to learn, I recommend learning how to dodge correctly. Barrel roll out of the way for surprise attacks/fast monsters. Do the side-step leap for anything you have time to prepare for. Barrel rolling eats at your stamina bar and if you're desperate to use your signs, waiting that extra bit longer can be excruciating.
    2. Use your spy cards in the first round of Gwent and don't be afraid to concede the first round. You'll have extra cards at your disposal and most times the AI will pass the second round quickly. Then go all out in the third round to hopefully pull a victory. The game is about playing smart. Don't be quick to use your special cards first.

My biggest tip for The Witcher 3 is wherever possible walk from location to location, don’t fast travel or even ride Roach. You’ll find chest unmarked anywhere and you’ll find fallen tree trucks with coins stashed inside them, plus it more fun.

    @hellspawn22001 Před 4 lety +237

I have played through the Witcher 3 10-12 times, still not an expert but I have a few things that may be useful.
    1. Absolutely explore everywhere: there are some many really useful things to find and exploring every marker that comes up will really help out.
    2. SAVE!: the game doesn’t auto save nearly as much as you think it should and you could lose, I’m not kidding, hours after one death. So save , save, save.
    3. Make a point to find the gear from the other schools.: the Griffin, Cat and Bear gear is so much better then anything else it is almost always a good idea to level until you can wear it then have it made. Once you find one diagram for a set you will get a quest that will point you too the rest.
    4. Don’t rush: I know I said explore earlier but I’m talking specifically about doing side quests, contracts and getting into fights. Being under leveled will make the game unnecessarily difficult and no fun. So do as much as you can before you move on to the next main quest and pay attention to level recommendations.
There are infinitely more things I could say but this is probably long enough as it is, just know it’s a fantastic game and I hope everyone who picks it up enjoys it as much as I have.

Edit: I just realised how long this is. Whoops. Also, great video!
    General Tips:
    1. Gwent - You may not like it but it often comes up in the game via quests. It's best to buy cards when you can and play against people at least once. You will always get a card beating an opponent for the first time. You can also change the difficulty of it in the menu.
    2. Don't craft armours/weapons often, especially higher level gear like upgraded witcher gear. It may not cost *too* much at first but will build up quick, both in coins and materials.
    3. Loot - Do it often. You can pick up a plethora of things ranging from food to weapons.
    4. Go to the bank in Novigrad - You can exchange foreign currency you've picked up into currency you can use.
    5. Axii - Upgrade it when you can. There's dialogue that's looked behind an upgrade. You can use this to not pay gold to stubborn people/guards and generally do things you otherwise couldn't. It's extremely helpful.
    6. Save - Do it often in the case of anything. Rare bugs, death, etc. The game auto saves but not when you'd probably like.
    7. Fall damage - You can minimize it by clicking the jump button just before you hit the ground. You will roll instead of splatting.
    Combat Tips:
    1. Dodge - It can save your life often. In my opinion, dodging after getting swipes in is a must do. It keeps your distance and you can't counterattack everything.
    2. Archers - If you can get to them first, do it. They will screw you over in combat.
    3. Quen - A bit obvious but use it, especially against monsters. It can save you often.
    4. Shields - Use Axii against them to get a free hit. It will also instantly kill human opponents at times. Even enemies much higher level.
    5. Don't spam - More than likely, your enemies will parry/counterattack you or, in the case of monsters, not care and hit you anyway.
    6. Group fights - Enemies aren't dumb. At least not very. They will attack you in groups, mostly. Take advantage of this when you are confident and competent enough. If you are attacking an opponent with one behind you, hit your opponent then hit the one behind you with the following attack. It often hits them because they're trying to hit you, thus no defense. Don't get cocky with it. Another thing, if you want to try, get an enemy between you and an archer, the archer might hit them causing a stun and damage them. Also, do not counterattack when surrounded unless you are experienced and can counterattack well enough to do it right after to someone else. Another person will probably hit you. And it will hurt.

    1. Dont try to hurry up the story, take story quests by your level, for exg in start you canr start your search for Ciri from anywhere; Velen, Novigrad or Skellege, do it the canon way and as suggested level; first Velen then Novigrad and then Skellege, your story and game will run its course very smoothly and easily.
    2. Learn to use Quen and the 'gourmet' ability as mentioned and dont spend a single coin on armor (especially non-witcher armor), completed the whole game on death march using the base armor only (its very easy once you master Quen), save your money for swords and glyphs/runestones.
    3. Instead of buying glyphs/runestones look for their diagrams to create them, making them is much cheaper than buying them.
    4. Sell things to proper buyers like books to bookstore, swords to blacksmiths, armors to armorers, food items to innkeepers etc.
    5. If you are running low on coin there are certain places in Novigrad where low level bandits keep re-spawning kill them, take their swords and sell them.
    6. If your sword has greater or medium runestones then dismantle it instead of selling it.
    7. In hearts of stone expansion pack there is an option of investing in runewright shop (about 10,000 crowns) do it, it enables you to add sockets in any armor or weapon.
    8. When you start blood and wine expansion pack, first thing you need to do is get the Aerondight Silver Sword, there some very easy ways to get this sword early in the game so search online the fastest way to get it, the earlier you get this sword in the game the better.
(Note: throughout the game keep checking out for "!" and "?" in map for extra quests or treasure hunts and etc for quick coin, especially the ones you are passing through cause once you unlock fast travel to most places you wont bother to manually travel that much)

Been playing The Witcher 3 for a year now and I'm on my 3rd playthrough (main story). My first try I played it with minimal guides or tips, and I had the worst ending ever haha! And then I decided to be more serious while playing it the second time, planning ahead of fights, thinking of the consequences and learned a lot of tips I can share now to the ones who are planning to start playing this awesome game:
    1. Save - You can use the shortcut F5 to save your game or there is the option where you can choose on how many interval per minutes you want to autosave (you can change this at the game option, theres 3mins, 10mins so on)
    2. Loot everything specially weapons - You will need everything you loot, if not for oils or potions, sell it to acquire more money. I usually sell sword and other weapons in Novigrad square, people there are rich. As you go on through the game, stuff will get expensive especially when you're starting to upgrade your weapons and gears. Haggle rewards as much as the NPC allows.
    3. Sword and Gears - Know the different attributes of gears and weapons. It'll help you maximize the effects of your attacks and sign. There are light, medium and heavy armors that you can choose from.
    4. Choices - You'll encounter choices that will require you to kill or stay out of trouble (this mostly works with people). In my experience of playing the game, choosing to stay out of trouble and not killing gives you more XP. But this will depend on the setting.
    5. Herbs - Herbs are sometimes hard to find and not all herbalist have a lot of herbs to choose from. My go-to herbalist are located at Novigrad square and The Pellar located in Blackbough. They have vast selections of herbs you can buy.
    6. Alcohols - Some of the alcohol like cherry cordial are sold by innkeepers, like the one in Golden Sturgon.
    7. Meditation and potion - Always meditate. This will replenish your potion. Speaking of potion, keep Swallow at hand. It will not just help for fast recovery but also keeps the poison from killing you, like fighting a swarm of sirens.
    8. Dismantle stuff - Often times the components required for crafting is just a dismantle away. Study the items you can dismantle and save money instead of buying the components.
    9. Buy maps and diagrams - There are merchants who sells maps and diagrams that can open new locations and lets you craft new weapons or potions.
These are all the tips I know so far, I hope this helps. =)

    A couple of tips:
    1) Combat & Alchemy build is the most popular route for Death March gameplay into New Game + and it teaches you to be mindful about using alchemy ingredients , which makes it a great build to start out with if you're unsure about what to build, as it is very potent and informative.
    2) Optional parts of quests can unlock different endings and little bits of extra gameplay.
    3) Defensive skills and utility based skills tend to scale very well into the later stages of the game. Especially quen and aard are useful at all levels, even when not upgraded. Damage oriented skills (mainly igni) require more upgrades to stay relevant and take more skill and patience to use effectively at higher levels.

I'd say don't sleep on the alchemy skill tree. It's probably the best one. It can make any potion or decoction heal you, so you don't need to use food in one of your quick slots. It can make your damage increase based on your toxicity, and there's a skill that removes damage from toxicity. Plus, the decoction effects are awesome. With the skill perk that also makes toxicity increase your damage, they're super strong. Also, go for a set of Witcher gear as early as you can. Best armor in the game, and they look sick. Finally, save your game often.

First time in a long time I actually read EVERY comment on a CZcams video and gotta say..very surprised that Read Notice Boards was not here. It may be a "given" but eh, what people don't know, people dont know. This is my 2nd Witcher 3 playthrough and I've learned a lot more this time around.
Nothing wrong with Gwent, but I personally don't play it because I have way too many other things to do. Horse racing, brawling, sidequesting, monster hunting, treasure hunting, reclaiming abandoned villages, ect...
This is called an Open World Role Playing Game for good reasons.. be the Witcher YOU want to be, go where and do what you want to do when and how you want to do it.
As far as actual "tips" go, I would recommend to upgrade and use fast attacks, Axii, and Quen, when you can. All 3 come in handy in ALMOST every fight.
(Minor DLC spoiler) At a point, you are given a home for Geralt where you can display your hard earned weapons and armor (some but not all). So my advice is to store what you would later like to display in your storage chests.
As far as coin (gold) goes, YOU WILL GET PLENTY! I am level 17 and have over 13,000 gold just from selling things I don't need and from questing and looting. Don't buy things you can find in the world and don't keep things you really don't need or may not even use (like all those Lesser Runes). Also be sure to sell weapons to a Blacksmith, Armor to an Armorer, Herbs to an Herbalist ect, ect...you'll get more coin by selling to the appropriate merchants.
Always manually save before starting a fight or quest or even entering a cave or temple you are unsure of. Do NOT let enemy levels detour you from a fight. Be confident. If you try and die, reload and try a different approach. I defeated a level 24 Cyclops and a level 22 Royal Wyvern yesterday at just level 16. Use the Bestiary, Oils and signs appropriate for which ever monster you are going to fight. ESPECIALLY the correct oil. It just may be your best friend (aside from Roach) in the game.
Lastly (and this is the big one) DON'T RUSH THIS GAME! Enjoy it, breath it in, live in it, walk, swim, ride Roach, talk to anyone, eavesdrop on NPCs, watch a fight, use Axii to make monsters fight each other. Lol. There's no time limit. So take a stroll through Temerria and enjoy your life as a Witcher.

    my tips:
    1. this one's more personal preference, at first i was deadset on having a combat/signs build, but i found it not that practical on death march. when you get a bit into the game and are making more potions and decoctions, i strongly advise going on a combat/alchemy build. makes all the difference in the world
    2. don't skip sidequests. not only some of them extremely relevant how some things in the grand scheme of the plot turn out, but they're hella fun
    3. have a decent amount of money before starting the hearts of stone dlc. there's one particular mission that absolutely bleeds you dry.
    4. be careful with boats, especially in skellige. you can easily find yourself in need to swim a good 1000m or whatever the metric is if you're careless and damage them enough that they sink
    5. loot monster nests, those can drop things from runes to weapons. loot monsters. even if you don't think you need mutagens or whatever they drop, you probably will need them
    6. put runes on your weapons and glyphs on your armour! invest a little and buy the diagrams to make normal and greater runes.
    7. some notices on the notice boards are not contracts, but i'd still recommend you read them. some of them are heartbreaking, some of them are absolutely hilarious. either way, it immerses you into the atmosphere
    8. read whatever books/notes you get while you're doing a quest. again, helps with the immersion and sometimes with the quests themselves

I'm currently on my 7th or 8th playthrough on deathmarch. Just killing time before CP2077. Currently building super heavy in Alchemy. The amount Vit of doing so is absolutely insane. By level 20 - 25 I was at a base of 6k hp. With added potions pushing me as high as 17 to 20k hp. Currently running a 1/1/10 (combat/signs/alchemy)
    Combat:
Your oils are super important do your best to remember which oils are effective against which monsters. If you can't remember the Bestiary is your friend.
Personally I find that opening combat with Northern Wind followed by devil's puffball to be super effective. If you're looking to destroy pretty much anything in combat(excluding golems) then might I suggest this insane potion combo:
Golden Oriole, Tawny Owl, Petri's Philter, Full Moon, Maribor Forest, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Swallow < For this combo you will need to have enough points in alchemy not to die/max out toxicity.
    Skills:
These are some of the most important skills in the game and I suggest maxing all of them out regardless of what skill tree you're going for.
    Signs:
Delusion < Most important for max for xp in choices. You will only need delusion 2 for most quest options and only 3 or 4 need Delusion 3. You should really aim to hit Delusion3 by the time you get to Novigrad. No spoilers here but that is one of the places you will need Delusion3. Lets face it 40xp is always better than most of the choices.
    Alchemy:
Killing spree < Amazing against mobs
    Synergy < Amplified mutagen stats
Frenzy < Added time to counter
    Endure Pain < Extra Hp
    Tissue Transmutation < Extra Hp
Side Effects < Super fun to max out as it gives you extra pots without toxicity

    My best tips so far:
    - Use Axii when fighting those nasty Boiras, it’ll keep them visible and unable to dodge.
    - Get the 20 min increase for food effects in the general abilities menu asap. You’ll never ever again need to spend half of your earnings on food.
    - Use the Wyvern Extract potion against tanky enemies and bosses, it’ll increase your DPS ridiculously. It’s specially useful against enemies with much higher level than you. If you combine it with igni, you can permanently remove their armor and make the combat even easier.
    - Invest in the Axii performance for persuasion in dialogs. You have no idea how much shorter and easier quests will become, it’s a must-have.
    - Invest in the Cat potion and look for blueprints to improve it. Most of the monsters you’ll hunt or the loot you’ll find is bound to be in very dark areas, where torches are pretty much useless, also it works underwater too, so you’ll probably need it pretty much every time you dive.

Everyone who plays this game on game pass needs to know this: if at any point you decide that you actually want to buy the game, and specifically the expansions, DO NOT BUY THE GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION. You cannot use your saves from the base game in the GOTY edition, you will have to start over. Learned this the hard way. If you are playing for free on game pass and want to buy the game and use your current saves, you have to buy the base game and then the season pass for DLCs.

Another tip would be when doing a quest that has you exploring big places with a lot of other paths to go towards or just adventuring on your own (ex:caves, dungeons etc) don’t forget or at least try to explore every one of those paths you will be rewarded with rare items and weapon or armor diagrams at times even actual armor and weapons but wary that there is a risk of having to fight a tough opponent(s) at times.
An example I could give is there is a quest (I think it’s called in “Dark Places” or something Dark but anyways it sort of a main quest) in velen that has Geralt and Keir going into this cave hideout looking for ciri and an elf and have an encounter with the wild hunt. It’s a huge place to do exploring make sure to save constantly before going down a certin path just in case you die or are not able to defeat certain enemies(like a gargoyle; took me a few tries) or illusionary walls that you might just not pay any mind too. So if you see another path on the minimap and it shows there is more to it behind a wall or whatever give it a go and keep all those treasures for thy self

With the ingredients, some are very common, but others are fairly rare. So you want to know where you can buy certain things.
