    Most pickleball players have a stronger forehand than backhand. One of the nice things about pickleball is that its' much easier to run around your backhand than it is in other rackets sports. Mainly because the court is so small and in just a step or two you are ripping a forehand and not too far out of position for the next shot.
    But sometimes, you really need to hit a backhand. You maybe be facing a server with very good accuracy and they are able to find your backhand like clockwork and/or if you run around to hit your forehand you will be very far out of position for the next shot.
    Just like with any shot in pickleball, as you move up the levels of competition, you will hit a level where your weakness can be easily exposed and that will certainly happen with your backhand if it's weak.
    In this video we cover some of the key elements you must master in order to develop a strong and reliable backhand that can't be easily picked on. Check it out.

    Is there any difference in the swing path for down-the-line and cross court? Do you alter the wrist based on where you want to direct the ball? Or do you maintain the same wrist angle and swing path and it all depends on the timing of when you contact the ball?

    Thanks for the video Jordon. I have been working real hard on my ground strokes both forehand and backhand. In both, Im having a lot of trouble keeping the ball in unless I drastically reduce my pace. I make pretty solid contact consistently which adds to the pace. I can put some top spin on my shots and get them to dive (outdoor) but still its risky. I have to be just couple inches above the net to get some good power and keep the ball in. Im thinking its possible that I am mis interpreting the pace of these balls from the videos.

      Yes Dan. I think if you can keep your drives low and take some pace off, that’s a good start. That’s better than driving hard high balls.

    My problem is that when I and my opponents are at the NVZ line and I have to hit a drive I hit too much with my arm,. I can't seem to hit with my shoulder. I guess because by the time I contact the ball it is too close to my body.

    Having a slight upward stroke is a good tip for racquetball players. Nice points about footwork as well. Hitters should watch the ball hit their paddle to make sure they don't misjudge the speed/drop.

    Jordan - My 10 year old son is running up too close to the ball or over running to hit his backhand. Contact is too close to the body and I don't know what to tell him. I'm aware he's 10 and I've kept it fun and encouraging. How do I get him to plant his front foot in the right place with relation to where the contact will be?

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hi! Throw some rubber circles down where his feet should be and have him stand in those circles. Then drop feed the ball from your hand at the right distance. Do this for maybe 10 minutes or so each time you go out to play until it’s natural for him. Once he gets comfortable with the right distance from a stationary position, he will likely naturally negotiate that position on the move as well. Hope that helps! This is Nicole btw, Jordan hasn’t been involved with this channel for some time. Thanks for the question.

  • @ylana4444

    You’re following through ACROSS your body. Different than tennis, where we follow through toward the target staying sideways the whole time. I notice your paddle face ends up sort of over your right shoulder. Maybe this is what I need for more pace. Also I need to speed up the paddle face.

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  Před rokem +1

      I think it’s very much like tennis in that you have to hit through the ball and then finish around and over by the right shoulder to finish with you arm full extended.

  • @MrJgoodwin7
    @MrJgoodwin7 Před 5 lety +1

    Don't you think a slice backhand return is more effective in pickleball verses flat or topspin? I know if you are going to drive a 3rd shot with a backhand you should probably hit it flat or with a little topspin, but it seems like I see more pro players returning with a slice backhand. In my opinion if you are hitting a 3rd shot with your backhand you should pretty much always drop it unless the return is short and sitting up a bit. Do you disagree with any of this?

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  Před 5 lety +3

      For almost all my returns I hit with a slice. Although it is good to always mix up your returns as well. It is also good to have a driving backhand and forehand, for those short returns

    • @MrJgoodwin7
      @MrJgoodwin7 Před 5 lety +1

      Ok I figured that you did. The reason I mentioned it was because you hit only flat/topspin backhands in this video. The return is basically the only time I hit a groundstroke. I prefer to hit slice on both fh and bh returns, but I do sometimes hit forehand returns with topspin. Yes as I said in my first comment the best time to use a drive is when you are given a short return. You do agree that while hitting a 3rd shot with a backhand playing a drop is the best option a vast majority of the time don't you?

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  Před 5 lety +1
