Thank you! This was a clinic I needed as I’m dealing with strains in my arm and shoulder. I have begun to incorporate the two hand play and finding it to be more comfortable and better shots.
    I appreciate all your instructions!

Great video! My backhand is my favorite shot but I have never used two hands. I am going to have to give it a try. After the last couple tournaments I have seen I know Catherine is well on her way to being in the top 5 Pro Women. You both are so fun to watch and just the nicest on and off the court.

Thanks for this great teaching video. I do use the two-handed backhand on occasion and love it. But what I've noticed with the pros lately, they DO use two-handed backhands in fast exchanges. For the life of me, I don't know how they are able to recover so quickly to take the next hard hit ball. You are so gifted! However, everything in this video is extremely helpful to me, particularly because I have never been quite sure which hand needs to be the power hand. Thanks again!!

Aloha and Mahalo! Great timing...I focused today on using a two-handed backhand at the net. I have no problem with ground strokes (tennis background), but my body/mind gets really confused at the net as to which arm is the power arm. Thanks again. The two of you are awesome. :)

Awesome Video you Ladies. Where do i have room to put my other (left hand) Use to a very reliable two handed tennis backhand. The paddle grip for me is 5.25 is there room for my left hand on top? cant figure out how that 2nd hand looks. Is it above and beside the right hand do i need a longer grip? love my paddle. struggle with keeping the paddle steady on the backhand definitely lose power with the one hand.

Thanks Simone and Catherine for teaching us the two handed backhand volley. Could you break down the stroke? I seldom use it use it but hold onto the paddle with the non-dominate hand to have more control on the one hand. I got all the reasons to use it, but would like a little more explanation - break down of the contact point, the follow through, etc. I am also going to work with beginners ages 5 -7, 8-11, and 12 - 14. Would you teach all these ages a two handed volley and backhand groundstroke in the most simplest form. Christie Borne

This would be a good technique for those players who try to compensate for backhand weakness by turning the paddle over to try to make the backhand stronger.

I seem to get more power with a 1-hand backhand. Why is that? I've been trying to also use a 2-hander, but once the game starts I always hit 1-handers.

    • @kylaarnett7079

It's tape. You can find colored electrical tape or a craft tape. Some use it for protection from scrapes with ground strokes and others just for the look.

The two greatest tennis volleyers, McEnroe and Edberg, had very different techniques. McEnroe was totally loose in grip and the whole action was in his hands - very unconventional, Edberg was much more classical in his volleying approach - wrists were firm, shoulder turned and racket head stayed above waist. I prefer Mac because his style was so unique, even though Edberg's style is what is generally taught. Martina Navratilova and Rod Laver are two great volleyers as well.

I really don’t see the need for the two handed back hand in pickleball. From a physics standpoint, the ball is much lighter than a tennis ball, you are hitting it a shorter distance, and the paddle is much shorter than a tennis racket. (For all the same reasons why you don’t need as much backswing) It seems to be more of an impedance that anything else.

If you are a 120 lb. female playing against a hard hitting 180lb+ male, making use of the left hand just helps absorb the impact and let you return it. It has happened on more that one occasion, where the ball is hit so hard that the paddle will turn a bit in my hand and I have lost all control of the return hit.
