After listening to this so many times, the original scene on its own feels empty without the piano, but that's not to say it's terrible. The original scene is very much iconic.

There are so many clever lines during of this section of the episode. "Can I play the piano anymore?" "Well, of course you can." "Well I couldn't before!"
My favourite joke from this episode is earlier when Troy mentions his cologne. "Smellin' of Troy." I'll admit that when I first heard the gag I missed the obvious hint at Homer, the writer not the lummocks masquerading as the head of the Simpson house, a father, a responsible employee and everything else. Where was I?....ah, yes. Smellin' of Troy. Brilliant.
