Jim is calm and explains everything perfectly with his soothing voice!
My kids would have called it soothing 😂😂
I’ve been online for nearly twenty-four years. This is among the most interesting and enjoyable videos I’ve ever watched. It was a real pleasure to watch such a skilled craftsman at work. I feel like I would have if I had just watched Picasso paint a painting. Thank you, Jim and Kirby.
Thank you for the kind words
Kirby Allison’s program with Jim is the simply Best, and worth every dime. I enjoy my shoes and therefore would not trust my shoes with anyone else. Their work is top notch, and Jim is literally a master professional.
Very kind words indeed. Thank you
That bit about the pivot foot! I'd never thought of it but it makes so much sense!
I knew a craftsman who repaired shoes and he could tell I was a car salesman by seeing the pivot point on a pair of AE I brought in to have repaired. He had equipment called Landiss if I can remember, the equipment had to be 50 years old.
I really enjoy watching Jim work. I appreciated him showing us the difference the sound the grain makes while it's being cut.
I know! An excellent but unique way of demonstrating quality differences.
Never expected to see this level of high end craftsmanship in 2021... thought this skill level had disappeared in the aftermarket shoe repair sector. MASTERCLASS!!
This is incredible content! Kirby, would love to see more recrafting segments from Jim.
Very easy to follow and pleasant to listen to! Great job and I learned more here than other cobbler's. Thanks! First time watcher 👍👍👍
There's a reason why Jim McFarland is president of SSIA. Distributor of JR in the United States. Obviously, he knows what he is doing. And then some...great choice for Kirby's program. Maybe less than 12 cobblers that I know of that are willing to do a flush toe tap. And do it correctly! Jim is one of them, for a reason!
Thank you for the wonderful words
Lovely to see a skilled craftsman at work. I especially appreciated the discussion of pros and cons of various methods of repair. Sometimes I feel that the idea of more work equals better job to be deeply flawed, particularly if that extra work may lead to extra discomfort. Stellar job!
Watching Jim shine the shoes on the sanding/polishing machine is absolutely mesmerizing!
What a pleasure to watch. It’s enjoyable watching a man take pride in his work.
You have taken a very good shoe and made it a great shoe. Well done you.
If I were just listening and not watching, I would swear that Nick Saban is moon-lighting as a cobbler in the college football offseason!
Kirby, we love seeing Jim work and would love to see more of him in video. Also, I just sent my first pair of shoes to your team to be restored. I'm so excited.
I was just looking at this service on your website today. Using the same welt if possible and with the JR upgrade, when compared to the recrafting service at Allen Edmonds, this is the best route to take. Thanks for the video!
Jim is a true Master at his craft!!v Very interesting and informative! Thank you!
Thank you for the comparisons between a JR sole and a standard sole.
Great work!
Glad you liked it!
Wow these shoes are beautiful
Great to see a true craftsman at work, thanks for taking the time to make the video.
Beautiful work 👌
Beautiful job as usual 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!
Nice and clean job
Great work Jim, love your passion. Fantastic partner Kirby!
Glad you enjoy it!
Excellent! Just simple review without too much infomercials.
Glad you liked it!
Beautiful video. My Allen Edmonds are definitely going to you guys when they need some love and care.
Amazing video and keep up the great content! 🍻
Great work .. let's hope that we get more videos like this one .. very educational 👏
We will try to get more of these filmed in the near future!
Amazing work.
Thanks a lot!
Nice watch. Enjoyed
Glad you enjoyed!
I wore the Randolf slip on to work today; have many pair of AE. I have been critical of this brand as to new introductions. My Randolf's are about ready to go in for a remanufacturing. For the money, I am buying Alden.
Elegant shoes
Great video. 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Great video
Great video - and seems like a great guy!
Indeed! He is a gentleman and an excellent craftsman
Going to have to go for a jr sole on my grensons
The JR was louder getting cut because the sound of the cutting vibrations were amplified by the shoe itself. But the JR is a higher quality leather! Can’t argue with that.
This was a great video. I very much enjoy watching Jim work. Please tell me this. Why should I spend as much for a recrafting as a new pair of Allen Edmonds would cost? Maybe I am missing something here. Please keep the great videos coming. Thank you. John
Off topic slightly but: Do you recommend any protective treatment for Alden Chromexcel Indy boots before wearing. Thanks.
Love your videos. I would love a video on cleaning white leather sneakers. I’m unsure if the typical yellow saddle soap I use for my other shoes would be appropriate for this.
Great suggestion! I will look into a video like this.
@@kirbyallison Great to hear. Most other videos about this on CZcams refer to cheap shoes and cheap cleaning products. Would be great to hear your opinion on this for those of us with higher quality sneakers we want to take care of. Tips on cleaning the white sole would be great as well.
Great Job. I would like to know what is the name of hat machine you used to make the stitches around the sole. Was it a Landis? My first time at his channel. Really like it here.
Dude's a real salesman
Watching these videos is so therapeutic
I know you guys have your shoe restoration program but you should do a video on how to pick a good cobbler, some cobblers out there are con men...
Jim if you don't mind, how much did you charge this gent; the shoes are very nice! It must give you tremendous satisfaction restoring quality products!
Have you considered the oak bark tanned soles from J&FJ Baker in Devon, UK? I’d say they are better than the JR Rendenbach, but they also cost quite a lot more.
I always take my new Allen Edmonds to a cobbler and have a rubber protective sole put on. Is this not a necessary step? I’d love to have JR soles on them.
This is a lot to do with personal preference. Some people want a sole more suited to wet or icy conditions, in which case rubber works well. Some people really want the exceptional quality and durability of a JR Rendenbach sole, as well as having a more formal aesthetic. It is about balancing personal taste with the pragmatic factors of how you wear your shoes.
how much does this shoe cost to repair? Are repair prices fixed or do you make any bargain after fixation?
What shoes are these? And are these a dress shoe or weekend shoe..?
If I ever get shoes resoled, I want fresh cork.
what color is shoe and what width?
Great video. However, I couldn't help but notice that the website says that you "change the cork bed on every pair of shoes". But in this video, you chose not to. Why is that?
That is simply due to a lack of being able to tell beforehand whether the shoes need it or not. We mention on the website that it is done, so that potential customers are aware that if the cork needs replacing, that is something we offer. The decision as to whether the cork needs replacing will rest squarely on Jim's expertise and experience. The shoes in this particular video did not have a need for the cork to be replaced.
JR Leather seems very durable and long-lasting, but I wonder why only shoe soles are made with it from what I'm aware of. Why aren't bags made from it for example, it would fit a heritage briefcase or sack quite well.
It's really rigid. It's leather meant for outsoles, you don't want a briefcase made out of it.
super
Thank you
I'd like to see this guy start a CZcams channel
Nice video, but why there are so many ads?
I wonder if cobblers can be shoemakers?
A lot of glue is used I take it these shoes can be resoled again in the future
That's typical in any recraft. If done correctly those shoes can be recrafted several times
I like my Allen Edmonds but the heels do suck. How do I send mine to you?
Mail them
take a look at the info on our website here: www.kirbyallison.com/shoe-care/recrafting-shoe-repair.html
@@kirbyallison thank you.
Good review, though too many ads on the video.
Noted. I will see if that can be amended.
@@kirbyallison It has. Excellent hands on by the master craftman!
8 ads
Only three ads for me and for a 30 minute video that’s not too bad for free.
This brings back a lot of memories. One of my first jobs was at a cobblers. I did all the polishing, ladies high heel tips, and got the shoes ready for the new soles. After I learned the ropes I was paid $9 an hour. Wasn't a lot but it was better then other kids my age making $3.35 or whatever minimum wage was back then.
Can we send shoes in to you?
Yes you can! Have a look here at the link for more info:www.kirbyallison.com/shoe-care/recrafting-shoe-repair.html
Thank you, Kirby Allison for not interfering in the video repeating "Kirby Allison" by 100 times. :)
Check out Bedo Leatherworks LCC. He is the best on CZcams, if not in the world.
the heal block is not leather its particle board NOT leather this how low the cost of making and more profits wow your the first Cobbler not to replace the cork its the foundation of the shoe
Way too many adds. Not worth watching 😕.
