You can build empires with friends, go to war and establish trade routes at the start of the Industrial Age in Anno 1800. Enjoy those sweet sweet steam boats! The game is 55% off for a limited time at ubi.li/476CO, and free to play through December 18th at annogame.com/freeweek.
As the nights grow long and dark and the holidays creep ever closer in the calendar, let's take a look at some of the festive myths from around the world. This year we travel to Iceland, where the winter months offer only a few scant hours of sunlight. And in the dark, holiday monsters creep. Here… there is only the child-eating giantess ogre Gryla, her enormous cat, and
her thirteen mischievous sons, the Yule Lads. Each has a very particular mischief up their sleeve from slamming doors to eating candles.

The current version of the Yule Lads as they're known today was really canonized by poet Jóhannes úr Kötlum with his book Jólin Koma (Christmas is coming) in 1932. That's where the 13 yule lads are named and described. Before then their names and numbers tended to vary from place to place and even today there are popular Christmas songs that talk about there only being nine, rather than the more common thirteen

Like, colorful socks that go up to my ankles. Just that. I just wanted new socks.
Not that I wouldn't've enjoyed some cooler things, but I wasn't expecting anything much for Christmas, and I honestly did want more socks. I figured that's a mark of some level of maturity... probably?

OMG, the yule lads are amazing! I love the stories and how they changed over time.
Have you considered that the stories of the yule lads might've started with beggars and homeless people roaming the countryside in the past? The thieving, stealing and pranking might suggest that. And maybe the decree in 1746 might've been driven by an enlightenment ideal to stop people from harassing poor and homeless people or use them to scare children.
But that's just an idea. Not sure if that is provable :P
