When Apple released the new M1 Mac mini one month ago, I said it was the only Mac desktop that you should consider buying. Well, after one month of use, is that still the case, and are there any long term issues that you should know about know that the computer has been available for more than a month?

Hi Greg, big fan of the channel! I've recently bought an M1 MacBook Pro, but the spacebar wobbles/rocks a lot when I alternatively press the top and bottom edges gently! Is this normal? Thought I'd ask since you've experience of the Magic Keyboard on both the 13" Intel and newer M1MacBookPros. (Here in London physical Apple stores are shut again due to Lockdown so no way for me to go in and physically check this, hence would be most grateful for your kind advice). Many thanks 🙏🏽

With it being able to boot up so fast, it's also nice to be able to move it from my office to any other room in the house if I decide to. When school starts up again, ill have it back to running on 2-3 screens where it works perfectly for me. I love mine

Had my Mac mini m1 with 16GB and 512GB ssd. Using it with my LG 5k UltraFine since late November and it’s been a joy to use. Was thinking of changing to the 2TB version but I think I’ve hit the sweet spot with the spec. Is highly recommend this machine. It runs so smoothly and is a joy to use for general office apps. I’ve only done a bit of photo / video editing and I’m yet to hear the fan. I agree on the 16GB if you plan to do intensive tasks or plan to keep the machine for a long time. Otherwise for basic work I’m sure the 8GB is fine.

I really didn't think portability and compactness were going to be a huge factor for a desktop, but as a college student, I am constantly moving back and forth between school and home for extended amounts of time. Every time I would have to carry a huge, heavy tower up and down the stairs and then transport it across the state hopeing that the GPU and fans wouldn't spontaneously fall out. Now I just take Mac Mini and put it in my bag and never have to worry about all that heavy lifting.

Hi Greg. I've seen a couple of reviews of the M1, and they all say that it's great for video editing. However, I am curious about how the M1 handles After Effects.
I do video editing and motion graphics using Premiere Pro and After Effects, and often work with both programs simultaneously. My current computer has a hard time doing the job, especially in After Effects, so would you recommend that I get the M1?

Bluetooth connectivity problems occur with other Apple desktops. I recently bought a Mac desktop all in one form factor and I now keep a usb connected keyboard plugged in because I occasionally experienced the bluetooth keyboard and mouse would stop working for no apparent reason. I absolutely love my M1 Mac mini. It is so powerful, quiet, and I'm a huge Mac fan. I have never been a fan of Intel chips and am so glad that Apple made the leap to develop their own silicon and it's way beyond any expectation I had on it. The Mac mini is the fastest of the M1 powered Mac's and is such a versatile desktop. I have been having the problem that other people have been having with some screen artifacting but only on the login page the first time I login after booting the Mac, Apple has said they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix that should come the next update. Besides that I absolutely love this Mac and it is the most powerful computer I've ever owned processor wise that I got the base model off Amazon for 669 dollars.

I've had my M1 Mini set up for a few weeks now and am really liking the change. I went for 16gig and 1 TB SSD for a bit of (hopefully) futureproofing.
My only complaint is that some 3rd party software is not yet up to speed for working with the M1 chip; my camera equipment in particular. Yikes!
This is something that is being addressed from what I've been told and, in the meantime, I still have an Intel Macbook Pro as an intermediary till the software issues are addressed.

I notice the same thing on my Elcom Trackball connected via dongle to my 2020 iMac 5K, so this may be a tracking problem in the mouse or HID stack and not necessarily a Bluetooth issue.
Of course you should upgrade memory and SSD if you're planning to do heavy work with it ... nothing beats memory, and for those times you will be swapping to disk, you only have a limited number of spare frames on that SSD - and the bigger the SSD, the more spare frames.
Remember that SSDs only have a limited number of writes, and you can use 'em up right quick with things like swap or demand paging - so no matter whether it seems like you can use the fast SSDs as a substitute for memory, you're toasting the SSD much faster than if you were using it for pure user data.

I bought a MBA base with 16gb memory. Im a graphic designer that does video editing. We do a lot of brand identity. We recently told Adobe to bye bye and srarted using Affinity whIch is maxed for M1. I have it hooked up to an LG when not using it by itself. The speed and smoothness is amazing. I traded in my 2017 mbp base with 16gb of ram which basically was an even trade. That MBP beach balled alot. This MBA has been so easy and smooth. If I would have ever been told I would be using a mba to run a creative biz I would have laughed. Im looking forward to the new imac with silicon and then I will be set.

This is a replacement mini for my wife's 2011 mini, but I'll get to see what Logic can do with the basic minimum. That will wait for the new iMacs for my DAW machine, and I'll have a better idea what will meet my needs. I expect I'll be paying less for a more powerful machine.

Hey thanks a lot for this video man. I've been debating getting either a Macbook Pro or iMac, because I'm a filmmaker myself and I really crave having that sweet stationary editing setup. Seeing all these CZcamsrs talk so highly about the Mac Mini, yourself include, really have swayed my interests to this third option. So thanks a lot for that! Especially the part where you talk about how video editing is best on 16GB memory. That would help me choosing *any* mac, and I gotta say, this 16 gig Mini with a custom setup sounds _wayyyy_ cheaper than the lowest iMac out there.
One question though, how does it work with connecting to iPhone cellular? Like taking calls, iMessage, Facetime, Siri, Airdrop, etc. That sort of interconnectivity is what entices me to the Mac as a casual device as well. I know you probably have to have an external cam and mic, which I do have a pretty good streaming camera, but I'm curious as to how it would fare as an extension of my phone and as a communication device. Thanks again for all your help man, highly appreciate it.

I ordered a new M1 Mac mini and used it for about 1 week. The bluetooth issues were so bad it was basically unusable and I decided to return it to Apple. The only way I could use my magic keyboard and mouse was to connect them with a lightning cable. However, I will say, the performance was absolutely awesome on the M1 Mac Mini. My main apps/programs are lightroom and photoshop and the M1 Mac mini was many times faster than my 16 inch Intel MacBook Pro. I'll probably try the M1 Mac Mini again in a few months after Apple resolves the bluetooth issues.

You briefly mentioned my Mac mini + iPad Pro dream setup… to use a Mac mini via my iPad Pro over WiFi with SideCar mirroring enable I guess. But the main challenges to get this done straight out the box or using and very old MacBook Pro to set up my Mac mini, transfer all my data then SideCar from the Mac mini to iPad Pro, and go from there. I use my desktop/ laptop very seldom these days since I got my iPad Pro over a year ago, so it would be nice to do some light computing on my Mac from my sofa or bed, and use the Mac mini of the headless Mac. Can you do a demo or tutorial on something like that… m1 Mac mini out the box, don’t connect a monitor or keyboard and go straight to SideCar or maybe Luna Display. I’d much prefer an out the box solution. Is this even possible???
