  • Static Grass & Water
    Video V.41
    Part 1 of a 3 part project.
    * In this video I show how I apply a layer of static grass to add depth to the scenery,
    * It’s been long awaiting so I also took the plunge to add DeLuxe Materials- easy water to the bottom of the water tower.

Hi Garry and surprise surprise - only me! ;-). Sorry mate I haven’t been commenting recently on your videos but I really haven’t been on CZcams too much recently - just a brief bit here and there. Anyway, I have managed to sit down and watch this one of yours and wow, no surprises with your outstanding quality of modelling workmanship mate - absolutely gorgeous! I think that my new layout is going to come out looking very similar to yours in style - a perimeter layout which will most probably have two levels as yours too. You have a fabulous set up there buddy and I’m very envious - we’ll done once again on a great ‘how to’ and something I will refer back to when I’m building the next Lakeside. Cheers for now mate and thanks for sharing. ..........Graham

      Thanks Graham
I too know how you feel, with so many videos on CZcams even I struggle to keep up hence taking things slightly easier and enjoying more of the hobby & home life than rushing to put a vid up.
With doing the channel 5 train competition it’s taken 2 months out already so normality is a good thing
I do believe your new design will be awesome as you have all the knowledge and passion to build a style that will suit your needs rather than crawling along the floor,
not even I like doing that but I have been there of which is what inspired me to do the smaller layout but easy to reach.
Always enjoying your vids and style and looking forward to your new ventures next year
Take care my friend and all my regards to Hazel

It’s my passion that pushes me to go better, and I look back at my first layout and can’t believe these things are possible especially for me, I do watch a lot of other peoples videos as us humans learn in 3 different ways so i try to add all that together in my interpretation.
I think sometimes it’s just one of those things to dive in to.
      Thanks again and take care

Very Good tutorial. The water looks good and better than clear varnish that I have seen on other layouts. All the 'dross' (in the nicest possible way) makes it so realistic.

Thanks Barry, wanted to try new products and the scenic water is an easy solution that is quick and effective and suits the younger modellers by far, like you say varnish can be tricky to master first time..

very well done. I have never seen that kind of water before. I am sure that is across the pond water effects. each time i look at your layout i am always seeing something different. this time, the two buckets hanging on the rear building just caught my eye.

Looks great Garry, I think the trees in the foreground really add to the whole scene! I must admit those grass fibers and weathering powders get everywhere! Seriously I have used both before to test little things out and they both end up all over the place no matter how careful you are! Cheers

Hi Gary, catching up with the videos and must say the layout has really come on. One thing I have noticed is the backscene really works now trees and other foliage is in place and looks more realistic than a photo backscene so in a quandary on what I will do as not sure I am brave enough to attempt a hand painted one !! Also those little details bring life to the layout , you must be proud of what you have achieved. Cheers Kev

Another great video Garry. Weathering powders is a medium I need to get a handle on, the finish they give to a scene really do enhance it. I was watching this and thinking you are doing a lot of little projects on the layout but wanted to ask if there is anything big you’d still like to accomplish. Your teaser may just have answered my question though so I’ll await eagerly for the next update. Paul

    • @cheekytek
      @cheekytek  Před 6 lety +1

Cheers Paul, weathering powders mix well together and are excellent for painting and the good thing is - they remain as powder so last a lot longer 👍
I tend to do little updates as 70% is complete so it’s easy to rework things I’ve done, plus I only have one end of the layout that’s not complete
Or is that on the way... mmmm🤔😆
      Cheers Garry

Hi Garry, I'm not getting notifications for your videos for some reason, I really enjoyed your video the grass and water looks brilliant. I am not too confident with the scenic side of model railways but hopefully your video will help.

Hi Michael I’ve noticed this too on other videos from what I follow not sure why all that is.. 🤔
I’ve only learned how to do scenery from others so it’s just technique and my stubborn frustration to do it again lol
      Thanks again

Great video. When you layer the static grass are you using full strength glue or is it a glue/water mix? Thank you.

    • @cheekytek
      @cheekytek  Před 4 lety

Hi Many Thanks for your comment
In most cases a mix of 50/50 pva glue and water with 2 drips of washing up liquid would be enough for scatter / grass scenery - to hold down nicely.
personally I always buy green evo stick wood glue which i adopt this same method to all scenery and all seems good 👍
Obversely use 100% for trees etc..
      Hope this helps

      Hi Thom
Many thanks for your comment and following
The grass applicator is home made yeap
Fly bat from pound shop and a Tupperware pot at the end
I’ve since change the square one for a smaller round one with a clip off lid.. still works a treat
      Hope this helps
