- Just giving my opinion on how to properly breed rats even if it's for a snake collection. Rats need more than just food and water, they need a lot of ventilation, cool temperatures and plenty of things to chew on. Also a good idea to have something course they can file they're nails on.
I agree with you I wish more snake keepers bred their rats more humanely they are animals too and they deserve a good quality of life even if it is a short one
What about deer antlers as chew toys?
I agree that many feeder rats are kept in not great conditions. Yours look very well cared for. Do you ever give them recycled cardboard paper or wood? It’s a cheap way to entertain them.

Are you using any kind of clips to hold the watering valves in? I just got an old school freedom breeder rack form a friend and Im going to re-do the watering system.I like all the extra chew things you put in for them...Cool video!
I give mine fresh fruit and veggies every night and I love interacting with my colonies.
I agree people should respect their rats and treat them well however you don't need to buy all the extra treat stuff provided you give them fresh fruit and vegetables.

have you ever thought about getting taller containers so they can have exercise wheels or something? ive been looking into breeders that have kinder setups for the mice and rats. im super new to this though lol. this seems like a great set up though!

Salt makes you thirsty and dehydrates
I was wondering about that. I know cows have salt blocks maybe it's the same idea. I would think it would make them thirsty too but I don't know everything

You would need to increase air circulation in the room and/or melt holes in your plastic tubs
ALL those treats are BAD for rats tho. TOSS IT. Get them wooden bird toys to chew on for their teeth. If you want to spoil them. Scrambled eggs. NOT MUCH OR ALOT

All rats are known for tumors, especially when accidentally inbreeding
salt makes everybody dehydrated though . Dasani water for example has salt in it. makes you want more water
You need salt to retain water...
@@blackdahliareptiles403 , mazuri and oxbow rat food already have enough salt. People don't have to buy salt licks. Other than that you have a better setup than most snake rat breeders👍
