- I've cunningly edited some clean clips together and hopefully, faithfully, recreated the loop point to make the longest junction of your life! I hope you enjoy folks!! You can even add your own programme names!
I hope people aren't so tied up in nostalgia that they miss what a bloody good piece of music this actually is. Compositionally interesting, lyrical, memorable melodies, appealing rhythm, imaginative arrangement, great suspense building, great build and release... It says "something's coming" so clearly. Loved it since I was a kid.
Ergle Burgle, I couldn't agree more! I've adored it for the past 33 years! I love the repeating motifs! The background guitar and harp type sounds that run throughout, deep in the background despite the orchestrations, you can still hear them! The part where the drums come in, you have a playfulness between a piccolo and an oboe that reminds me of two birds singing to each other! Then you've got that gorgeous synth bass which matches every part of it perfectly! It's gentle during the quiet times and then seems to build up courage! My favourite part has to be the steel string guitar just before the glorious grand finale! The synth bass is playfully talking to the guitar, similar to the oboe and piccolo earlier on! Again repeating motifs! It's absolute genius!!!
TV Schools You sum that up so perfectly! I’m useless at identifying instruments!
Channel 4 seemed to have two slightly different versions of the track - one where the piccolo(?) trill at the beginning is more prevalent (used at startup and close). Are there any other differences you’ve noticed?
@@CaptainSiCo it took me years to work it out! I always thought the piccolo was a tin whistle!! The entire track is synth based but it's mostly synth orchestral and with added 'folk' instruments! The harmonica section for example which almost matches perfectly with the steel string guitar later on.
That's the one! The mix on Channel 4 for the opening! The oboe's in the right channel, the strings are on the left! The oboe's a lot quieter and echoes. It was how it was originally mixed! One of the things I know is that S4C had those two different versions for close down - I couldn't tell if it was something they edited or if it was from different original edits! The close on a Friday on S4C where it says, "Monday at 9:30" you've got one solitary note of the synth bass and an echo! I can't recreate that because the strings come in! Now, that tells me that it was an original edit done by Brian Bennett! And based on the fact that when you write library music you make "stings" and shorter versions of the same track!
In addition, the trill at the beginning is a flute I think! The higher pitched trills during the brass section is a piccolo! Again all synth based! Also during that brass/trumpet section, there's a synth bass motif that comes in earlier than the first time on the brass section which adds to a sense of urgency! It's just such perfect piece of music! A dream of mine would to hear it be played by a full live orchestra!
Gavin Martin I realise that. I said “Channel 4 appeared to have two versions” - I didn’t say Channel 4 composed them.
Ah, the theme tune to bunking off school 😂
Utterly sublime and wonderfull. Aah to be 11 again in 1987 😢 😊
Off sick from school....bottle of original Lucozade by my side.....this superb tune......oh yes, memories !!!!!!
This brings back lots of memories of the 80s and 90s love how tv was back then.
4.57am, not able to sleep. Vibes!!!
I use this to fall asleep to!
This music has always been and will always be totally sublime. It's just a modern classic of instrumental music and well well worthy of being played far more often than it gets.
At last, a clean ITV Schools on S4C junction, albeit longer, complete with 60-second countdown, thank you kindly, definitely takes me back
Something I always wanted Martyn! I wrote to both Channel 4 and S4C back in the early 1990s and asked for a VHS of the full sequence, but alas, no luck!! So, nearly thirty years on, I edited it together myself from clean broadcasts! I'm still curious as to how long the original, genuine articles were!!
@@tvschools7860 I think I might help you with that. From what I discovered on tv ark, both the ITV Schools and S4C Ysgolion rotomotions last for about 6 minutes and five seconds, plus an additional 60 seconds for the countdown clock. Do hope this helps TV Schools
@@martynwilliams8625 Maybe ITV Schools on Channel 4 but not ITV Schools on S4C and S4C Ysgolion! The longest junction I've seen and recorded was almost 12 minutes long... czcams.com/video/gTZJ-ABTgsk/video.html
A happy half hour spent I reckon, thanks for the memory of relative youthfulness 😉
the bit at 27:35 we all use to sing along to that bit at school, teachers thought we were mad, lol!
How can such an inconsequential piece of music remind you of so much!
My primary school childhood there and then 😊
Brilliant!
Which Font is good to add program names in with ? P.S. Thanks for the edit and the upload.
Dis remind me of da skool big tv ent it,

Quick question: how many of us are also Alan Partridge anoraks too? I presume we're all going to keep in touch.

Searching for this as I remember it from Wed 17th Feb...1993! What synthesizers did it use please?
Aaah es pedwar ek 🏴
I don't know what it s but I always thought that the music to the ITV Schools countdown clock ('Just A Minute') had an upbeat reggae sound and calypso melody to it compared to the more bland music the older ITV Schools and Colleges countdown clocks of the 1970s and early 1980s had to them.
…they had ysgolion
