Awesome review. Great work, Max!
Hello from Sweden! Very glad to see that you are back with a review. Thank's!
Hey @MatteMike, thanks!
That was really awesome, more like this please :)
Donner sounds good and looks good also for a budget guitar
Nice short form video Max!
Leaving my like and comment because this channel deserves it more than any other guitar review channel
Thanks Cameron!
Very Cool, Thankyou for your honest review. Have ordered one of these from the Black Friday Sale over 50% off from Website price, Bargain so couldn't resist. Cheers
Inexpensive guitars have come a long way. Donner seems to do a decent job compared to a Glarry ... IMHO. Great mod platforms.
Welcome back Max! Great idea for this series ... I would add LyxPro and Ivy guitars to your list to QC. LyxPro has a reasonable, super-light Paulownia based T-shape worth checking. And IVY has a ton of various guitars in their stable, they likely were the Vietnamese maker that even HB used for some models. I for one like their semi-hollow and hollow bodies.
Finally, I guess there is EART, where you get stainless frets and much other combo for a small bump in price accordingly.
Thanks @stephane!
Oh, I can't wait to see what direction this series goes.
So do I :)
Awesome video! I found your channel searching for reviews on this same guitar and I found it one of the better reviews. I’m retired, live in Maryland USA and I am a beginner player so I purchased this same guitar for around $109.00 (with discounts). I purchased it to take with me when I travel. The only thing I did to it was polished the frets, shielded it, put on some better strings and checked the intonation. I do have other guitars that cost more ($$$) and don’t want to take those with me traveling. Again Awesome video and a new subscriber.
I only found your channel a little bit ago but this is the first low cost guitar ive seen (i was looking for low cost ibanez rg you had an hp version of it) i have not seen you check for fret level or can you put the action at a good hight without
I came across your channel as I am waiting for this guitar to arrive.
Let us know what you think of it when it arrives!
A great demo of your amp.
Max have you ever gotten your hands on any 'Fazley' electric guitars from Bax Music? I recently got a lovely Tele style guitar that punches well above it's weight for the low price! You play guitar in a beautiful way 😉
I think this review is spot on. I purchased this last year and was very impressed with the fit and finish and the playability. Even the intonation was acceptable. I have modified mine somewhat (pickups, pickguard, shielding, etc) but even the tuners are not bad for this price. The finish is nearly flawless and the neck is quite playable. A great mod platform. Thanks for a great review!
For a person with long fingers / big hands, do you think the neck will feel alright?
So how low is the action? Does it buzz? Are the frets smooth and polished? Is the rosewood nice looking or just passable? Tuning pegs work?
Tuners work. I don't think it's rosewood :) I've talked about frets and the action in the video
you should open the guitars up! It's informative to know whats inside!
Great video as usual. I think if you are reviewing a starter / budget guitar you should also use a beginner/ starter amp as well. That would give people a better idea what the guitar will sound like.
That's a great idea! Next time I'll make sure I try the guitar with something more beginner friendly
While I see your point and don’t disagree, as someone who has been playing for 20+ years though, it shows how you can buy “budget” guitars and still sound great. You don’t need a Gibson, Fender, etc. to sound and play great. Reading most comments online and YT about this guitar, seems like most buyers are experienced players. Shows you something!
Heyo, QC Entry suggestion - flatness of the fretwork.
High tolerances on fret height result in either buzz or high minimal action. Es macht kein Spaß to have 3 random frets buzz after a setup.
QC easily masks a quality issue with high action. Fixing that is a bit of a drag.
Fast&Furious measurement: fret rocker + feeler gauge, pick max value, blam.
I-like-measuring measurement: get fretboard flat with a notched straightedge, whip a flat one out, measure 'fret waves' along the length. Since you're already there, see how's the fretboard too.
For bonus points check if joint region has warps.
Yeah, that's one of the things that can not be checked by just playing all the notes with the stock setup. Thanks for the suggestion!
I thought it had a cheap nut that was too high. It sounded like a toy, and I couldn’t get it to intonate.
I ordered a Tusq XL nut and replaced it. The action was just right and the range of tones I’m getting are from really clear sweet cleans, to ultra twang, to high gain screaming that sounds monster good. $15 and I’ve got an axe that is really fun and versatile to play!
I have one and it really is amazing. Really well made and sounds really good.
Solar Guitars review maybe? :) Cheers.
Как всегда качество видео и подача информации на высоте 👍 гитара звучит далеко не по-телековски 😂 что за трек метольный играет в конце видео?)
Это трек написанный для видео на Harley Benton Amarok-6
How about doing QC on a modern Gibson? Between it and a Donner my money will be on the latter :D
First step would be getting one LOL
I'm still on the fence about expensive guitars. I feel like these days you're paying mostly for the name. I'm not a purist and I like to use my guitars so the finish usually isn't a problem for me, it's gonna get scuffed either way. Playability is the most important factor. I remember going to my friend's studio and he had just gotten a new Gretsch jazz guitar. Beautiful to look at, but I just couldn't play it well. He also gave me some weird norwegian off-brand SG style guitar that was modded and bought for 200 euros used which played better than any guitar I've put my hands on. Ever since then I've become a bit wary with judging a guitar just based on price.
YOU ARE PAYING FOR THE NAME , FENDER ARE WAY OVER PRICE BY $250 ON EACH ONE THEY HAVE SIRE GUITARS IS MAKING THEM LOOK BAD
You know what would look amazing on that guitar? An FC Union Berlin decal! :)
great video. Starter guitars have come so far since I was a beginner!
How to channel looking the Donner Telecaster copy. Because I'm more of Stratocaster man. We're actually the fat strap I like the humbucker in the back. I just want something that sounds kind of like a Telecaster is to mess around with just wanted to see if it was worth anything. I subscribed to your channel because I really like your review I Really Love You guitar playing. I've been playing for a really long time but I got away from it for several years because of illness and other obligations how you spend about 12 hours a day with a guitar in my hands. When you're playing music making your own kind of feel like you're soaring a million miles above the Earth I've never felt another feeling like that. I'm really hoping to get that magic back again
You mentioned improving the guitar near the beginning of the video. I hung around to see that but despite finding a few issues, you did no work on it.
Vintage brand guitars would be great to have on your channel. By the way, you never measure the nut in your reviews. That would be great, the nut and the span of the strings. Thanks
Thanks Marco. I never thought I needed to measure it. But yeah, that's something for the detailed reviews for sure
@@MaxSoloMusic There are some lousy players with big hand like me to which believe it or not, that mm makes a lot of difference hehe :( Since in some videos you measure even the frets, I think it would be nice to also have this. For example, I have returned guitars to Thomann with measures below 42.5 mm nut or less than 36mm string span (35 mm seems to be the common place). The info on the web has been absent or inaccurate (many more times the later than the former). My Gibson LP studio is 43 mm nut and 36.5 mm string span. It feels like having a first class seat even being such a small difference :) Thanks!
@@marcomostroso good point! All right, I'll include that in the next guitar video
@@MaxSoloMusic Thanks a lot! Other than that your content is really great!
Correction, Sir, Donner is an American musical gear company. It already says on the back of that guitar (designed in Nashville, Tennessee, US) and in their website. They just outsource all their products (pedals, amps, etc.), all made in China...😂
I say: HIFE!!!!!
donner effect pedals are just amazing and not just because of the low price but beware the chinese brands are all the same padels just rebrandet
4:02 I see what you did there......
Almost that lick
Remember that they get money for the review and the guitar is set up so it sounds better.
At least Donner engraves the neck plate. I think every company could least do that.
I like Döner
It has been 20 days since my purchase and they do not refund my money.
This company that charges it sales under another name, Kohree Llc, seems somewhat suspicious, doesn´t it?
Is this your way of doing business?...you make a purchase and then they tell you that the stock ran out without returning your money?
.....this is stealing, right?
In the end i will have to apologize.
DONNER´S has contacted me and within 7-15 days they will pay me the amount.
That´s whay told me...I´m waiting.
$140 guitar, $3k amp
Which one???
Doesn't sound very good.
