Even when you don’t find something you consider a “good deal” shopping for things you enjoy is always an adventure in itself. Kind of like my wife “Christmas shopping”.

Thank you for bringing the gear down to my level of income. Social security and small pension from the Bricklayers Union barely leaves a budget for getting outdoors without suffering the elements. I worked outside for 35 years in budget gear from Walls and Wrangler and great sales on Carhart. Tip of the hat and a nod for making it real.

My snowshoes are also one of my best thrift store scores. I got a mint pair of MSR Denali shoes for $6.99cad. They retailed for about $160. Funny thing was my wife dragged me to the thrift store that day. I really didn't want to go, but I sure was glad I did.
I kept the value village price sticker on them until it couldn't be read anymore.

Great clothing snags. I know the predecessor to that jacket and its predecessors. We were issued sheepskin coats in the Cdn reserves in the 60's. Mind you even over age 75, I'd be too warm shoeing in that garb; the coat would be in a backpack.

Wade Brother...great job. I particularly like the mitts and the snowshoes. I am thinking of getting a pair of those Huron/Algonquin Snowshoes, there are lots on EBay for about $65...but can't beat your price! I also like the Canadian Milsurp Jacket, it has some great features. My greatest and most recent bargain was a Kelly Kettle (as good as new with leaflet and storage bag)...these retail at over $120CDN...I found this in a thrift store for $5.00....YES...five dollars! I am happy to report that we are having similar weather here in the Interior of BC. Take care friend!

Hey great deals you've found there. Congrats on the successful bargain hunting.
I'm always conflicted when it comes to bargain hunting. On one hand I love a good deal, I love to have gear that works best in any of the many different ways I like to enjoy the outdoors and I like to have extras that I can outfit friends with in a pinch.
On the other hand I don't like to horde all the good deals, and my gear takes up a lot of my space. I need a big purge so I can free up some space and do that others can find some decent gear at a bargain.

Like you say military surplus stores are always a good place to look. I was rummaging around ours the other week and picked up a pair of ex issue waterproof salopettes for work. A bargain at £25. I like that jacket you picked up. Do you get Sealskinz products in Canada? I swear by their socks. Everything is waterproof and breathable. The socks and gloves are a life saver here in the winter time. Always good to catch up with brother, all the best, Mark :)

Hey Mark. Unfortunately we sort through quite a lot of trash before we find treasure here too lol. That's a bargain buddy on the salopettes and I'm sure they are great quality as well.
I've heard of Sealskinz but never looked into them, perhaps I should. Thanks for the tip mate and talk to you soon! Wade

Great video, what about your base layers? I’m in North Eastern Ontario an snowshoes in equal and colder you don’t mess around just keep moving, 4 and 5 KM trails are pretty much all in thick bush so I don’t worry about windchill.

Hi, I spoke about my base layers. I was wearing two very thin layers. A poly next to my skin and a very thin merino layer over that. It works very well. Thanks for watching!👍

Very nice. It is always good to be reminded that there are many ways to find good gear.
But, what I really want to know is what camera and Mike were you using to shoot these last two videos? I know you probably get that question a lot but given the temperature last time I tried to shoot something that called my battery died remarkably fast.

Hi Kenneth. It's a Canon SL2 with a Rode shotgun mic. I went through 2 batteries on this day. I bring 3 batteries with me and I can charge with a power pack as well. Seems to be working out ok so far.

Always lije Rode. I suppose the real trck is better ng prepared. I hadn’t really planned to bideo the recent lunar eclipse so shouldn’t have been surprised as the poir iphone with external mic and extra battery didn’t last long. Toss in shooting at night to add to the challenge. I’m pretty sure my old Lumix would’ve done less well.

(apparently my comment got lost while trying to skip over an ad) ....anyway, as I tried to post before, it doesn't have to be a fashion show! Get whatever you can source that is functional, and show off your skills instead. Most of my favorite gear is old, with multiple repairs, was purchased used, or I made it myself. NONE of it is Pinterest worthy! The woodland creatures won't care what you look like, and your trips will be more fun if you aren't mentally burdened with consumerism credit card debt.

Hi Wade - just recently found your channel, great videos and info. I have been snowshoeing for years and found that downhill ski poles that you can get at any thrift store are great for adding stability and climbing hills on the snowshoes. I think I got mine for $2.
Keep up the great work. Mike
