"A side of Rome never before told" - except when it has, several times over in both film and television.
😂👍
It's good to know the ancestors of Hans Zimmer also composed for gladiatorial games. Historical accuracy is dead.
Nice costumes & probably a bit of drama
Anthony Hopkins was made for roles like this
He can plays everyone and everthing!
Looks promising. Happy to see Hopkins in a role again, he was so great in West World.
I wonder if Bigus Dikus will make an appearance?
Do you have a .....titter...when I talk about my very good friend Biggus Dickus?
Well, not on statues.
He has a wife, you know.
He was killed by Lika madik

The 👑 Great Anthony Hopkins ✨️
AMAZING, 24 years after ridley scott's Gladiator and these roman scenes look SO MUCH WORSE. Truly a massive decline in photography, cinematography and in the ability to make things appear cinematic, ancient, realistic and well done.
yeah good point
I wonder why to be honest?!! Budget?! Or skill sets?! Gladiator 2 looks good tho to me… can’t wait for it!!! I know it didn’t need a sequel… but this Ancient Rome genre has always been seriously lacking in the modern era… so I am so pumped for it and this show tbh… Just a big history buff and Ancient Rome is probably my favorite subject within history.
Ben Hur 1959 real sets real chariots...this 90 % noticeable CGI, especially 0.40 ,,,
Yes!
The vipers closed down the Westworld park and opened Roman World, Dr. Ford...
For those who are about to die, we salute you!

Barbarians has spoiled me to the point that I can't stand Romans speaking in english
Barbarians is also pretty terrible both in historical accuracy and just generally as a show
The Roman Latin was the only thing that show really did well
Thing is though, it’s about perspective. Romans have been used extensively in theatre performances and I think it serves as a great backdrop for English speaking actors as well as Latin speaking for amazing stories.
One of my favourite series of all time is Spartacus. It’s not the most historically accurate of shows, but the acting is superb and knows how to deliver a tragic and epic vengeance story.
Barbarians ok first season, terrible second.
Barbarians started out very strong. But ended up being "woke" garbage. Shame, Season 1 was almost perfect.
ask americans to read subtitles and they rather start a war than do that
Anthony Hopkins was old when I was a kid lol
This looks absolutely epic ……. And with Tony Hopkins. Can’t wait. 😀😀😀😀
FFS... can we get a movie about Rome that is not about gladiators or slaves revolting?
this is the circus maximus..not the flavian amfitheatre....probably going to drive horses here
Yes! I want a 5 hour movie of the roman senate debating fishing quotas in greece!
@@nondescript2892 true, my bad... but still, does everything have to revolve around games? For an Empire that lasted for so many centuries and was so important across their entire sphere of influence, it seems a waste always focus on the Panem et Circenses aspect of it...
Try "I, Claudius," British TV miniseries, minimal FX, lots of drama and great acting. Or "Spartacus," the original one with Kirk Douglas; it's about enslaved gladiators revolting, but much, much more than that. "Cleopatra," "Quo Vadis," "The Robe," "Ben Hur," or any of the many movies you can find googling by 'best movies set in ancient Rome.' Check the Wikipedia article 'Sword-and-sandals" for the budget movies of the "peplum" genre. Ave!
@@abake there are lile 'Hispania' that show the conquest of Spain, 'Barbarians' the conquest of Britain, and 'Domina' the politics of Rome, as you can see tbere are a lot of shows about Rome that are not gladiators, you are just not watching them
The description says this is about
_"The dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most; blood and sport."_
That's exactly what this programme, TV and cinema give us today. Ironic isn't it?
Yes, you are right, and I don’t want to see either of them!
I think they didn't use fake blood in Roman times...
Lacking sense he should have been annonced by sounds, doubt all could bee aware of the ceasars present otherwise.
Damn, this looks good!
Can't wait to see it!!
Getting some Ben-Hur vibes.
God I hope there is humour in it.
Music is a bit so so.
Awful!
ah yes, the famous vambraces
EEEK bring it on
I already know this is nowhere near comparable to shows such as ROME by hbo, but i will watch it nonetheless to see what they've done with it, i really hope this aint some woke BS. Hopkins was obviously called in to give some kind of prestige\promotion to this entire thing, pretty sure about that.
There are things interesting about Rome other than gladiator fights...nice!
I went from excitement to despair in just 1 minute and 33 seconds. Looks like turgid dross, Hopkins notwithstanding.
You know I just noticed that all that junk in the middle of the hippodrome track obscured the views from the opposite side? ....should have been free and cleared out of that you would think?
real ones probably had not so much "junk", but indeed they had some statues, obeliscs and specially the markers for the laps (7 I think was the traditional). Anyway the good spots were the two 180º curves, that where the spectacle (and brutal accidents) was.
Giusto ring😮😢
What emperor is this?
Vespasian
@@CarlJosephEscarian Haha really? That was my guess 😁
On network tv? Idk….if you can’t “Rome” or “Spartacus”…you can’t really show Rome….
Not exactly a Netflix production is it.
Is that bad?
That's a good thing.
Lentamente l'avversario😂
We don't know whether the Thumbs Up gesture meant good or bad.
Just think if they made a real series where gladiators were sparred most of the time. Reality would be so boring for so many people.
Hannibal Lector was a Roman emperor.Who knew.
Hannibal still has a taste of blood
A shame they didn't use the chance to paint the statues and the reliefs. Sadly this image of Rome is to ingrained in publics imagination to risk challenging it.
I have only one question. When The moment came, where did all these people take a sh**? Were there public toilets at the colosseum?
There were some near a coloseum. This is not a coloseum though, its some hippodrom, propably Circus Maximus.
@@PawelTheShrubber not "a" Colosseum, but "the" Colosseum. There is only one, it's the nickname of the Flavian amphitheatre in Rome. All others are just amphitheatres, not colossea.
In this fragment, it seems to be the Circus Maximus indeed. Which is neither the Colosseum nor an amphitheatre.
@@fluffytom82 of course, sorry, ESL here.
He'd be wearing purple surely?
we are far fron BBC I, Claudius lol
Emperor Antoninus Hopkininus...
Ave Caesar, morituri te salutant.
Its better spare budget and remake spartacus
Is that the same announcer as in gladiator? lol
Looks more like James Corden...
Yes lmao, the same dude in his younger days hahah
The CGI is just terrible
far from the most important thing, is it
@@OrangeJews1138 If it is distracting then it is important
CGI? I'm afraid that the real Anthony Hopkins.
Ave Caesar morituri te salutant
He is going to get killed in the first episode, isn"t he?
Roman salute was ruined
❤❤❤❤ Ave cesare
First and relatively early 😊
Thought it was a Biden biopic from the title
And the Romans keep speaking English...who knows perhaps they soon will speak Chinese or Russian, maybe even Farsi....
I didnt know that people like to see movies where cant understand anything
This doesn't look good.
I didn't realize that Romans were so... English
If the Roman empire had excisted long enough, the British would have colonized them as everyone else!
I love Hopkins but he just looks like a costumed prop here.
I go so excited then i read up Emmerich's name :( gonna be a sluggish boring piece of pop-trash like every single movie he poops out, no matter how much money they pour on the project, it's gonna be mediocre at best.
That is a hypodrome, for horse racing, not an arena like the colosseum. If this is in the trailer, this does not bode well for the rest of the film. I suspect it will be like Napoleon.
It's a show.
It's the Circus Maximus, which was used for gladiatorial fights at least until the Colosseum was built (this series takes place before the Colosseum's completion). My issue is rather that Anthony Hopkins is much too old to portray Vespasian.
First of all, it's hippodrome (not hypodrome; hippo-
