Vinyl Dead Wax Messages - Secret Run Out Groove Markings

- The dead wax between the final grooves and the record label is traditionally a relatively benign, uninteresting space. Otherwise known as the run-out groove area, you will usually find a matrix number, or perhaps a few extra digits referring to the cut or take of a particular record.
Maybe, if you’re lucky, the mastering engineer or pressing plant will add their own signature.
But on the odd special occasion, if you look a little closer, you’ll sometimes find a few weird and wonderful hidden messages. These messages range from album lyric references to inside jokes (and even random initials).
In this video, we explain how the legendary mastering engineer, Graham Peckham, is often credited as the man who kickstarted this tradition.
Vinyl records and physical music in general offer so much opportunity for additional creativity and expression. Hidden head wax and run-out groove messages are a perfect example of this tradition.

I have a copy of the Grateful Dead's record Terrapin Station that says "Hey Jerry, where do you keep your stereo" in the dead wax.
At what point in the manufacturing process do these messages get scribbled on the wax?
All the later pressings I have from Metallica have something. Kill em All says "Metal up your @ss" which is what they originally wanted to title their album.
The only one I can remember is on the Madness single "Wings of a Dove", which says "The Arse of a Crow".
The vinyl pressing of the score for “The Batman” has quotes from the film in the dead wax.

I only started buying vinyl last year but in addition to discogs log my purchases via a knock off version of Excel. I've added in the matrix number which means I regularly look at the dead wax. I've only seen one message in the space and that was for Metallica's reissued Black Album. That being said, I see signatures all the time and my brain may just ignore others that I may have seen.
I've read that QC is markedly worse nowadays than it was historically but should that be remedied it would be nice to see more touches like this on vinyl records.
I’ve got a Warner Brothers label from the ‘70’s . Cans remember the album . I’ll be going through my collection soon . But in the run out on side 2 it says “That’s All Folks” .
Many will probably not even make the connection .
My favourite was the run out groove of “The Album of The Soundtrack of The Trailer of The Film of Monty Python and The Holy Grail” which read “The run out groove of the album of the soundtrack the trailer of the film of Monty Python and The Holy Grail” - which was another Peckham cut.
Very “Peckham” and very Python. Love it!
Beatles White Album has a two second ditty."I would have had it any other way!"
Tom Petty and Heartbreakers Album "Hard Promises" has in the deadwax "We love you JL"
