I’ve purchased a number of used records from these guys (Eil.com). They have always been in amazing condition, both vinyl and sleeve!

Actually, the Beatles "Please Please Me" album shown lies in a mono cover, but the record label says PCS, which means that it is an stereo album!

I have bought a few old, sealed records over the years. Everyone has been warped. I always open the new records i buy and remove the shrink and put them in PVC sleeves.

Thanks for sharing this. I think it'll give people new to the hobby a point of reference when it comes to grading.

Is a sealed record that is warped still considered mint? Since you don't know until you open it how can you sell it as mint? I would never grade a record as mint. You can however grade things you can see like a coin for instance as mint. I'm going to be really pissed if someone sells me a warped record as mint.

That is a very good question. Technically it would have remained unplayed, but because it is warped then it is very difficult to say.

I agree. There could be half a dozen things wrong with a sealed album.

There is no excellent grade. After near mint it’s very good plus.

what about if the record itself looks brand new but was kept in an album with other records to preserve it

Or excellent covers with crappy records that are sleeveless.... last batch I grabbed I looked at a few and those ones had the sleeves, the rest unbeknownst to me till I got home and looked better 3/4 of them were crap, I maybe able to save an elvis Presley one that's actually valued higher, but who knows. I did get a few gems 2 sets of 78's worth 20 each and one album worth around 60+ highest recently went for 150.00 so for the crappy ones I will just keep them and either sell for 1 dollar for the album cover for records who are nice but have bad covers.

I never use the term mint. I remember many a time buying a new sealed album and having to take it back due to either being warped or it had a pressing fault. I'd state an album is sealed but never mint. If it's opened and as good as new, then it's in excellent condition. And as for near mint???? Another pointless statement. It's like stating near excellent. It's not excellent so don't mention excellent in the description. False advertising.
