I've been watching other "appraisers (compare/contrast)." They use computers in order to validate their appraisals (using sites they pay $2000 a year to access), because I'm a collector and need accurate information--and, they're boring and definitely don't have the knowledge, experience, expertise of Dr. Lori.

That happened to me with a ruby in a ring. The ring was returned with a ruby that had a chip out of the back of it.

As for my alexandrite ring , all the jewelers I saw to have it appraised , they all wanted to send it out for appraisal and I said no. if you cannot do it in front of me , I will not leave it with them.
And you're smart for that. I wont let anyone work on mine.
My sister left her diamond engagement ring to be sized and they replaced her beautiful solitaire with an inclusion-filled one. My best friend left her beautiful garnet ring with the jeweler. It was a cherished birthday gift from her father. When she picked it up, the exquisite garnet had been replaced with a smaller, darker cloudy one. Now, 50- some years later, she is still saddened by this, still mentions it sometimes when she wears the ring. Both jewelers, of course, denied it happened.
@@nancyfarris5093 I'm so sorry for your sister and best friend. But, happy to hear you are sharing this story so others know it does happen at times. Make sure you document what you have before getting any jewelry or any piece for that matter repaired or cleaned.

Dr Lori- how do people get appraisals at a store? What I mean is, what is the routine? Is it all done right in front of you or at least to where you can watch and keep an eye on your jewelry? Do people generally set up appointments ? Can you request it not be taken to the back or out of the room?
Not that I’m going to one-
The one I did go to years ago wanted to keep my jewelry until they could get to it and that was around 2-3 months waiting period. I said no thank you and walked out.
I do plan on sending photos of mind to you after the holidays.

Thanks for watching! When looking at a piece in person, I do my appraisals right in front of you at events. My in person events are first come, first served no appointments. Remember, it's your item, you should do what you want. If something is suggested that you don't feel comfortable, then simply take your item elsewhere politely.

@@DrLoriV I hear you bring that up a lot. You are perfectly YOU. I had WLS 4 yrs ago. I was taught that as long as I kept my portions small, kept protein intake high, and take all needed vitamins, the weight would stay off. Last January the weight started coming back. It has been 4 yrs without desserts, pasta, rice, bread, butter, or sugar! My bariatric team told me I am who I am on a cellular level no matter what I do.
Any way I get it. I am surrounded by family that looks like barbie dolls.
You inspire me. You are brilliant. I love learning from your videos!

I am 5 foot 5 and weigh 120 lbso would people make fun of me because of my size I don't think so. So I wish you would stop referring to her weight as a way to stop people from saying something before she can.I know all the tricks for a living with my husband for 25 years before he passed away at 46 years old doing a radical surgery of a gastric bypass miss him every day and my oldest son as well who passed away when he was 23

I have a diamond look alike ring with big stone on top and diamonds on both sides halfway to the circumference of the ring and marking is LCDLJ, what is this sterling silver or pure silver? Real diamond stone or fake? It has no other marking, no .925 marking either.

Im trying to identify a pattern on a 14k keepsake wedding band that was bought used in the early 1970s. It was a his and her set and the mens one was sold. It said "LOVE MARIA" on the inside. The one I have is the woman's and says "LOVE JERRY" in it. Is there anyway you can tell me what the design is called on it? So i can find the other one if it still exists out there. It is a cigar width band I think. The pattern is little circles with a quilted like pattern. I can not find anything remotely like it searching for over a year through google and bing. However I found a picture of just so happens a mens matching one. Found it on bing search after hours of clicking. However when I click on it, it takes me to an ebay page to choose a category. I can not figure out why I can see the photo but then it takes me to a search page on ebay. Like its a cruel joke. Does not say the item has been removed or anything else. Just where you choose a category to search. I have tried searching for the ring on the ebay search but its not on there. So why does this photo that says ebay exist???

I recently went to Value Village and my mind confused me because I'm not educated and I bought a ring that appear to be a very expensive diamond and on the inside it said 925 and I psyched myself all up and got excited and thought I had a yellow diamond so I did the breast test and it didn't even stay a second on it and then I scratched my mirror and the glass scratched and I thought so it's got to be real diamond LOL so I took it to a jeweller he didn't even test the diamond but he said it's not a real diamond and yet it looks so real.. he told me that a real diamond would not be set in silver ... when I took a picture of it and magnified it and it just looks magnificent in the light....it had a bunch of colours . A lot of Blues and it sparkled and I got sucked in. Well it look like a yellow diamond but next time I'm going to be a lot more careful I just don't know why it's scratched the mirror and scratched the glass and I assume because it said 925.. that it was real. Oh well I only paid $25 for it and looks nice on my hand
