We've been tweakin' em since the beta, but finally we have some strategies that are set in stone! This year is unlike other years because there are drastic changes to strategies. Find out what I use in NHL 19, and why I use it.
The Settings I use together with Strategies:
Controller Settings -- Skill Stick
Camera -- Zone
Auto Backskate -- Off
Online Pass Assist Percentage -- 90%
The other ones don't matter as much, but I like to have everything large like my Burger King fries. I mean, I have the puck size, highlight, and indicators on large so that it helps me see where the puck is and who has the puck easier.

Didn't you use to use Classic for the camera view?
Yes I used classic camera when I played on my TV, I have since switched to a monitor where I play a lot closer so I can use a camera setting thats further away and stay focused on the game.
Hmm that sounds rough. Right now lots of people that are really good from previous years are playing and going through the divisions, so you may have been matched up against them. Hopefully that clears up over the coming weeks. You are always welcome to check out my videos from NHL 18 which may help your gameplay.
Brianstormed I haven’t dabbled I’m changing the pass assist. You notice a difference at 90?
Where do you change the pass assist?
Can we make a petition to have the ability to make custom plays again? I used to have my players do these awesome routes and stuff and it made the game so much fun end.
Thanks a ton for this. I was struggling to adapt a bit this year but I just crushed my first 3 CS games. Behind the net really helps setup the cross crease
Thank you for this. I started using your strats in 17 and the struggle has been less real since then.
Thanks Brian! I’ve been going through a lot of different strats this year. 1-2-2 aggressive hasn’t been kind. The behind the net is interesting. I’ll def try it. Thanks again
Thank you alot, it clarifies alot. I was playing in overload with all my lines but the passing lanes are never there.
I was 11-10 in online vs and struggling to adjust to the new style in nhl 19.. I watched this vid and now I’m 20-11 in online vs. it’s a completely diff game and the AI players are always where I want them. Thanks a bunch man
Thanks for this video. I’ve been wondering why my strats seemed worse this year.
Man I’ll be honest, I’m 6-0 since watching this video. I kept getting 2 goal leads and blowing it EVERYTIME. Was 3-8-1 in online versus, now I’m 9-8-1 since watching your video last night. Thanks bruh 🙏
This was awesome. Helps me alot
Thank you this helped me so much!!!
Man! Your such a good amplifier so thanks for that! Will use your strategies except that control breakout I'd put the one where defender waits center to pick up the puck. That's because I have noticed that long passes rarely go threw enemy players. So it's usually easier passing from the neutral zone to the wingers having two options.
Go for it! Definitely tweak then to your comfort level! Thanks for the compliment :)
Just started playing NHL again picked up 19 yesterday for 40 bucks Feels Like Home can't wait to build my Ultimate Team got to love that beginning grind
Or you can be a low life coward and buy $200 worth of packs and buy your team like every other scrub. The build way is much more satisfying
I like anything showing game play. I enjoyed the refuse to lose series.
Amazing video! thx
Thanks a lot!
Thank-you very much for this High Quality content! :D
Cant wait to tweak some of my strats. I want to be a pretty good player this year but didnt get the greatest start but not bad: 14-2-1 record atm
I was using sleeveless first. These are better. You get the 1 in 1-4 giving the right amount of pressure. And behind the net has helped huge in scoring
Also, I've noticed, having dmen set to cycle rather than shoot..helps d not get caught flat footed
I was a good player before with ur old strats (30-3) but these drastically change the game. I blow out Everyone I play now
Damn to go from 30-3 to blowing everyone out really says something! Glad you found success with these strats!
Same
how do u set these settings to where they won’t change in game? talking about online versus
Thanks bro, started to win more games Thank u
Not a problem dude!
Thanks man helps me a lot, already 3game won!!
Very nice!! Keep it up! If you have any questions let me know!
When I have the puck how do I get my guys to follow me up to the net better
I really appreciate this. I used to be about 490 CR in NHL 18 and with my defensive game with the skill stick and poke I could stifle all these one trick ponies who score one timer after one timer goal. I can never do the one timer at the side of the net or the breakaway deke goal that the better players use constantly. All of my goals are unique. I've even mastered pulling the puck through my legs which I'm sure oohs and aahs my opponents because in over 300 online vs games I've never had one opponent do that move to me. I bought nhl 19 and I started getting 25 penalties a game and have adapted my poke check as best I can to minimize penalties. The stick lift triggers way too many penalty calls in NHL 19 too I wish they would change that somehow. I'm a 360 CR in NHL 19 now because I can't defend these bastards and their one timers at the side of net. It also didn't help that I use Ottawa and they have the worst team in the game it seems now. Anderson can't stop a beach ball in this version. I finally stopped chasing the puck carrier coming in the zone as others suggested and plunk my D right in front to avoid the one timers cross crease one trick pony goal. It's helping bigtime as I've won 6 of 8 now but these suggestions will likely help me even more. It also helps that I stopped using Ottawa and use Washington now THANK YOU
I really enjoy your videos my man. If you are looking for ideas on videos to make , I could really use help entering the zone and setting up some scoring chances. I can’t for the life of me break the top 1500 in CS. And it’s crushing my soul.
I'll come up with a video like that in the future!
hey brian! love your vids. i'm wondering if after the new patches you've continued to use full energy on your lines still or do you find your lines go into yellow too often? thanks!
I stuck with it as it doesn't bother me too much. I do see a big different in their energy though compared to pre-patch. If you feel that you need some more energized lines feel free to move the slider to the left
very good video
Where do I go to do this?
I love this series and ur videos are great. I’m just not a competitive player. I just play on pro difficulty so do you think these strategies still would apply?
Yeah I think most would apply, considering my strategies try to keep everything passive to give you plenty of time to catch the CPU after a turnover, and blocking shots is one of the most important things you could get your AIs to do. If you want, you might be able to get away with Overload as a strategy since the computer won't skill zone you..but it's still a great innovative strategy
Brianstormed thanks for the advice look forward to your next videos 👍🏻
Thank u so very much I was using sleeveless and I found my team still doing shit.Your strategy is amazing what a change please do nhl 20 right away when it’s released .Again thank u for making this a way more enjoyable game
Of course not a problem! Ill be sure to make a similar video. I did make some minor changes playing the beta. If the gameplay is the same ill keep those changes heading into 20.
Anyone know in EASHL if you hope between multiple clubs or even be in more than one at the same time or is their a time limit between leaving and joining stuff like that.
There shouldn't be, but idk for sure
I’m sure NHL19 EASHL is like other NHLs EASHL, in the past you could only be on one team at a time but there is like a 30ish minute wait if you leave 2-3 clubs in a short amount of time. You also lose your stats from when you played games when you leave the club I’m pretty sure
I doubt EA would allow Smurfing.
any advice for getting control of the puck in the defensive zone? I feel like i'm spending 99% of the game in my one end!
It's OK if your opponent is spending more time in your zone, as long as they aren't taking quality shots. If they keep taking bad angle shots, let them! It's hard to say specifically what to do, but I just force everything to the outside and when they try to force their way toward the slot for a shot or pass I'm there to shut it down.
I didn’t play last year but the AI does not seem to be all that passive on defense. It does on the breakout but in the zone they’re on top of their shit.
Nhlx4xGunz here and I'd like a video of best build attributes and which actually matter. Also does height n stick reach help far more than a shorter lighter guy with small stick reach..do for defense n feds n goalie.
Also would like to see you use the new, select any player you want and does it work better than the normal press right trigger button
You mean for World of Chel? So throughout the beta I've preached the really big build, the largest you could get. A 6'9 Enforcer Dman. Dude wrecked everything, was hard to get the puck off of him, easy to steal pucks, never got injured, etc. With the new updates and tuners he's not as effective anymore. I've been enjoying the dangler, as it has given me a lot more creative room and mobility to do what I want. You hold onto the puck easier and you are more agile.
As far as the new controls, I have made a video about that called the new player switching mechanic.
thanks for the feedback! :)
I think Tight Point on Puck side Attack is better than Collapsing. Collapsing leaves the point wide open and Div 1 players will know to use that when you shut down low down. Also collapsing doesn't cover the one time receiving well, not as good as tight point because it's man on man. If you can play decent to good D controlling the player closest to the puck carrier you will find way more success against top end teams with that setting.
Hmm yeah thats a good reason to go tight point, but I think against most people collapsing is the way to go because of the amount of blocked shots you get. Leaving the point wide open is okay because its hard to score from there with D to D one timers being nerfed.
Brianstormed That's a good point. I tried your exact strats yesterday for 5 games. It worked well but again my computer D whenever I didn't control them didn't cover the cross crease at all compared to tight point (ironic i know). Also, 2 of the games they ragged my PP and when I asked why it was because I was using 1-4 lol. So I'll avoid that and 1-3-1 so I don't have to deal with that, but otherwise your settings are really good.
Do you have a video about how to score goals???
Here is one on breakaways: czcams.com/video/Kf2KgYNP-ec/video.html
Here are highlights focused on goal scoring which may give you ideas on how I scored goals: czcams.com/video/QEX5m4vllyE/video.html
Hey Brianstormed do you have the issue of the skater with the puck just start gliding? This is happening to me a ton. The only thing I can do is pass and hope gliding stops. It's kinda weird when the skater getting the pass is also stuck in the glide. I wonder if it's my controller.
I don't think so, send me a video so I can better understand what you are going through
I've tried everything and I can't get my team to do the 1-4 when the other player has the puck, it only happens when I have the puck moving up ice into the zone. meaning I'm all alone and nobody to pass to.
Thats bizarre, its a defensive strategy. It should only happen when the opponent has the puck in the neutral zone. Its possible that they were already in that formation when you got the puck back so it takes them a little to get going. Id change the breakouts to be more aggressive so that theres some more kick in their step or move the energy/efficiency slider a few ticks
What about strategies for drop in with a.i?
Is that 6s or 3s?
How do I setup Xbox one s nhl 19 two players so I can 1v1
Can you make a video comparing the Cycle/Shoot and Carry/Dump all the way on versus all the way off with video gameplay?
I might look into this in the future.
Thanks for the suggestion
When it's on Dump the AI will skate faster when crossing the line in order to be able to retrieve the puck, this will lead to alot of offsides taken by the AI when you are carrying the puck. That is the main reason to have it all the way on Carry. If you have it on Cycle the D will stay along the boards mostly receive passes from forwards on the perimeter, Shoot they will be towards the middle and creep deeper for one timer shots.
What does online pass assist percentage do?
The game tries to magnetize the puck to the player you were "trying" to pass to. If its at 100% it'll magnetize the most, if its at 0%, where you move the stick is where it'll go. The higher the %, the more likely the pass will go to a person, but it may not be the right person.
new to this game....what about settings in Chel 3v3
If you are playing with all players, strategies don't matter. With AIs, it's probably best to keep them as defensive and as passive as possible so they don't give up breakaways easily and they are always furthest back. I think maybe on defense they can be a bit more aggressive so that they can pressure the puck carrier.
Could strategies change with gameplay tuner updates?
no, these will be fine for awhile. If they change it's because i found something even better
I wanna see a video like this. BUT with a team like mine! Its not the same having a low overal team like last year. My best player is 82 brayden point. Cant win a game in div 5
I'm using these strategies in my HUT Level up series with 60 OVRs. It works there but the players may be spaced too far apart, maybe Overload would work better. Everything else stays the same
Is there any way to set strategies permanently or do you have to change them every game?
You can change them permanently in HUT and Franchise through the Edit Strategies menu. For Versus you have to change them every game
I took a few screenshots so i dont forget them 😎
lol I did the same thing. I'm looking forward to modifying my settings tonight
can you change the computer AI strats for chel club games?
yes, use the dpad with skiill stick controls midgame
So I mainly just play Online Versus, and I started off hot this year, but in my past 15 games+ I can’t score, I can’t hit the net, the other team is ALWAYS in front of my shot, and it’s every team I play, no matter the team and it’s killing my record and my confidence, because most of the time I have the puck, move it around take shots, they miss or are blocked and I don’t know what’s going on. It’s like I don’t know something others do, I’ve lost to some bad players. 1. I need to know if Vision Control is still viable for shooting? 2. Any tips on what I can do to help my shots from sailing over the net all the time or just hitting the goalie in the chest when I do get a lane open? Also, do these settings pair with just Online VS? or more so just HUT? I’d even love to have a game with someone who’s solid at the game on PS4 play me a few times and critique me and tell me what’s going on. Was really loving the game but I just feel defeated now. Thanks.
Oh man Versus is a rough animal, the players you use have poor accuracy so even if you make the perfect play you won't score like you said. I played a top player in a series when the game first came out and I got crushed on the scoreboard, but I probably had more high scoring opportunities than him. That's what happens when you use the red wings lol. These strategies will definitely work for Versus, but the only shots you should be aiming for are those cross crease shots, rebounds, and maybe close in the slot. If you are going for anything else without using a sniper like Ovi or Laine or Kessel, it's pretty much a low percentage shot. Hope this helps!
Oh and vision control is definitely still viable.
Brianstormed so what would you recommend for line strats for versus? at one point i was ranked as high as ~#2500 at a 536 rating, now i'm down to a 450 rating and ranked ~#36000 a few days after! i keep losing a lot of games just to shitty luck. my defensive skills are better than my offensive skills. when the game is tied or i'm up, the strats work, but when i'm losing, what suggestions do you have when i'm losing? what should i change? also, have you experimented with the sliders so you dump more? is dump and chase viable yet? i love grinder games and i love grinder hockey. i notice even some elite guys have guys on their strong wing but you still have players on weak wing. what's the benefits of that? also what kind of dekes do you find most useful against defenders?
FarewellFix fuck bro, same!! I was 127 overall rank. Now I’m fucking 3,300 it’s fucking bullshit. My goalie never stops anything, I can be outshooting the other player 40 shots to 10 and they’ll always have 4 goals
beat the trap video next? with footage
Since the players energy replenish faster, do you run 3 forward lines or 4?
For now I'm running 4 but may make the switch to three with bronze synergy plugs if I get close to maxing out BU
Brianstormed I was thinking of doing the same thing!
Testing out rn, hopefully getting some dubs
Best of luck man, lots of people had success with it.. hope you will too!
@@Brianstormed haha, im on 4 winstreak right now. In div9 tho..
I’m trying these in NHL20 today cause other guys tips are not working for me
Why does the auction house suck? When I bid on a card I have to go to a different screen to bid again? I don’t remember it being this bad! And sorting broken! Also all team have all star teams and I’m playing silver player still lol!
Sadly it has been this bad haha, I agree though that this part of the auction house Is inefficient. At least they made it load a little faster.
Behind the net now is a best strategy ?
From what I saw, yes, because of all the clutter in front of the net.
Any recommendations on which goalie to buy?
Bernie parent is nice for me
Im Reliq Cool!
Murray if you are going for a cheap gold rare. He's pretty solid for me.
Just Got Carey Price. Ill try him out
Anders Nilsson hes 6 foot 6 and a beast!!
These looks similar to eki’s. I’ll try them out and let you know how it goes
Haven't seen his strats but I was certainly interested in them. Hope it goes well!
Do you know where I can find his strats?
who is eki?
@@flyinhawaiin587 One of the top players in the game, he's really really good
I can never play online because my household doesnt have Wi-Fi
:(
Bout time fooker. I been waiting lol. Can’t seem to find anything that works
Hope these are the ones that work!
Brianstormed Lol Hell ya man. Now only thing I need is you to fix my hands. (I raced pro super cross for 9 years. My hands are shattered lol)
Brianstormed hey man. I actually found 2-3 works amazing with the rest of your strats. Try it out dude
i started out 11-1 in competetive season round one for keith primeau i finished the round 26-4-5 i dont get how i was ranked 2500+ when some ppl played lesser games and lesser wins were ranked higher than me ?
how does competitive seasons work why arent i ranked in top 10 or 50 when i go 13-1 or 20-2 i dont get it most of my opponents know the game well i just find ways to win by 1
@@paulieb5557 It's based on a point system. If you're barely beating teams worse than you you're not going to get many points. But if you barely lose to someone better you don't lose many points either. You need to soundly beat much better teams if you want to be anywhere near the top 100.
@@bobbalobbadingdong4597 oh i c thanks i guess im facing crap players lol
Why is the instant wristshot not in nhl19?
Is that the cancel animation? If not, send me a clip
What makes a line switch happen
It tends to be energy based, once your line is low on energy and the puck is in a favorable position (deep in the opponents zone for in stance) it'll automatically change lines. You can manually change lines as well
I have played this game for many years and the last two NHL series, it seems that the person with the higher rating always wins 80 percent of the time, if you do not know what you are doing or playing a glitcher lol.
My HUT Level UP series brings that % down 🙄🙄🙄
The funny thing was, I played the fourth rated player online on versus and all he or she did was glitch goal the entire time 😂😂 looked at their results, the person quit after it got past three. I took a 9:1 beating like a man hahaha
The gameplay in general is solely programmed around HUT. With EA's sole purpose of tricking you into thinking you need better players to make more money (system's even implemented offline). Meaning, the team with the higher overall (3 overall points or higher generally) is going to have an advantage no matter what. This is where your artificial lag in a game comes from when you are playing a stacked, or better team. It's where lucky goals happen and momentum changes 10 fold. Ever feel like the other team has the upper hand all game? Yep, that's the way the game is designed, intentionally. I'm bringing this up because strategies will have little to no effect on gameplay when playing a better overall team. I enjoy your videos though! Cheers
i began thinking thisnin last years nhl 18 and i also think the nba 2k18 and 2k19 are doing the same thing i cant believe the games i win and lose its a joke at times lol
oh yes like an idiot ive prob spent 3000 extra on these games for packs etc lol
well not this year i aint goin broke no mo 😂 at the emd of the day its just a video game a very fun video game all be it
Yes just happened to me
It's funny I was playing this girl (yes a girl) online vs the other night and although she had no scoring skills whatsoever I could not get past her defense. She outshot me 45-15 and I was in shock. I wonder if she watched this video lol
I want videos about EASHL there is hardly any out there
Check out KingBling's channel here: czcams.com/channels/WJO3tnpRctewPIK_rEDKUg.html
He's a top EASHL player that provides tips and shows off gameplay. While I'm good at EASHL (Div 1 player), I wouldn't consider myself a top player there.
I'm a top player as well just post some game plays nothing special. Top 5 CR in the world
Whats the best strategy for club?
How are you playing? Are you doing 3s with two forwards and one AI? Two forwards in 6s? 4 skaters and one AI in 6s? It very much depends on how many AIs and what position they play so its tough to say exactly but I can give a few pointers.
Two forwards and that’s it
Are you doing 3v3s or 6v6s?
@@Brianstormed 6v6
Ah okay. In 3v3 your AI has to be really passive otherwise they'll give up a lot of breakaways. In 6v6s since you have AIs everywhere you just need them to be in the right position.
Try this:
1-2-2 Aggressive (Forward helping with forecheck)
1-3-1
Trap/Forecheck 2 from the left, if you aren't getting enough help on forecheck then bump it to the right.
Offensive Pressure - Aggressive
Defensive Pressure - Puck Side Attack
Defensive Strategy - Tight point to have your AIs stick to the opposition.
Penalty Kill - Passive Box
Powerplay - Overload
PP carry - 0
Control Breakout - Strong Side Slant
Power Play Breakout - Carry
Quick Breakout - Close Support
3 on 3 - Passive
Forward Lines - Crash the Net
Carry - 0
Cycle/Shoot - 0
Efficiency/Energy - 10
Dont Block/Block - 10
Hold Line - 8 (This will let your defensive AIs push up on the play more)
Cycle/Shoot - 0
Auto Backskate -- Off
Online Pass Assist Percentage -- 90% There are neither of these settings in NHL 19 if you haven't noticed it yet. Otherwise where am I missing them in 19?
They are under controller settings
Nooooo please don't spread the 1-4, not fun to play against imo lol
Haha sorry but its the most beginner friendly strategy! Once you know how to beat it, the 1-4 just means you'll get plenty of breakaways and oddman rushes.
@@Brianstormed all good lol it is a good strat can't say otherwise
They should remove the 1-4 strategy all together for even strength play
Jerry L. Fuck you man.
Brianstormed I thinking it was your strategies?
eashl vids please
For strategies or just in general? I do have EASHL Shenanigans recorded, I don't know if it'll be enough content for an episode though.
I tried this and lost 7 to 2. He had 7 goals on 12 shots. I hate this fucking game. Kids just skate right into my zone and I can barely break in still. I was so good at 18
Don't expect this to work on your first attempt. You have to buy into the system, understand how your players will act and then make your decisions based on that. At the same time, your opponent could have just been really good and strategies wouldn't have mattered much. Finally, the only strategies that affect your breakout/break into the offensive zone are the quick/control breakouts which I have it set to a far more defensive/passive style so that your players support you incase you lose the puck.
how do you recommend breaking into the zone.. the trap shuts me down so easily Im still really struggling
Can’t count how many games I’ve lost last minute. Seems no matter my strats...they skate past me no problem..and I’ve got a pretty good team already, so they aren’t stiffs. I get poked at their blue line...and the endless SWITCHING off to AI is really pissing me off. Play D your damn self!
Last minute goals are something that you have to try to adjust your gameplay for. Slow it down when you have the puck in the final two or three minutes and only go for the highest quality chances. Otherwise, cycle it around and wear down your opponent.
nhl 18 strategie works better for me
Mine? It may just be the type of players you played against, against elite players they won't do anything.
Brianstormed I used your strat setting from last year and won a lot of games. Until I played an elite player, I couldn’t do anything and I got beat bad 5-1
Those elite players can shut down any strats, the goal is to learn and adapt!
Cmon man....😥. I love your content but seeing the 1 4 just broke my heart. Its a shame everyone uses this whack strategy setting. I don't hate you for it but thought you'd not fall into the trap scheme.
Well its either 1-3-1 or 1-4 depending on my opponent, it usually is 1-3-1 but for beginners the 1-4 is best. 1-2-2 Blue and 1-2-2 red are just so bad and really easy to pass through. They would probably only be good against opponents who like to circle back in the NZ.
I have never used any neutral zone trap during my NHL playing time, I can't stand trap hockey, I'm starting to get the feeling everybody playing nhl 19 now are using the trap as their defensive strategy and some games I play I find it nearly impossible to skate in their zone, let alone dumping and chasing. Another thing I'm noticing as of late is, a lot of the time when I'm in the opponents zone and go for a one time pass, the defender always intercepts it, like his stick is a magnet to the puck, frustrates the shit out of me lol
SNIPING ALWAYS SNIPING LOL!!!!!
Dude everytime I get that FAILED UNSUCCESSFUL message. I'm missing out on so many. :(
Lots of people sniping!
