Sometimes I can’t remember why I walked into a room but listening to a song from 48 years ago I can sing every word. Thanks for reacting to this song.
😂 So true!
Everyday!!
Glad it's not just me...! And yeah, I can sing every song in their greatest hits CD. Always have loved this band.
You and me both!!!
Isn’t that the truth?!?!????!! 😅
"I've been one poor correspondent and I've been too, too hard to find, but it doesn't mean you ain't been on my mind." I've always loved - and identified with - those lyrics.
_"Well, I tried to make it Sunday, but I got so damned depressed..."_
*Finally! Someone's telling MY story...* 😏😏😏😏😏😏
This song and group are THE EPITOME of 70s soft rock!! CLASSIC!!! 🥰🥰🥰
My favorite band
Yacht Rock!
Yes. If I'm thinking of one band that sums up that late 70s sound, I'm thinking of America.
@@jollyroger1009 More like early to mid 70's
@@thomastimlin1724 Well I wasn't around for the early to mid but I remember this sound a lot on the radio in the late 70s when I was starting school, so I think of it as from that time. But ok...early to mid then.
Used to play America ALL the time, especially when driving. I’m so happy that you “kids” have taken the time to listen gobs of our songs. They make you happy, yes? 😊
America is great for long drives.
My kids 28,30,33 love America
Cindi...saw them in 81!
Produced by the one and ONLY George Martin of Beatles fame. Song sounds like a George Harrison tune.... MAJOR EPICNESSSS!!!!
Me also. I was born in 1966. Had an America Greatest Hits 8 track in the 70’s I wore out.
You can't go wrong with the group America! ❤
I was 18 in 75. This was Susie's favourite song. I had a huge crush on her, but I could never tell her. It was complicated. We were actually best friends, but she didn't want romance. So whenever I hear this song I think of Susie and wonder "what if". . .
I just posted almost the same thing. Same age too.
@@AlAndValOffGrid hey, maybe the two of you oughtta hook up! LOL, J/K!
I bet Susie doesn't wonder "what if".
At least we’re all old now, so it matters less. And yet, more too.
I was 5, so 😂
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "I Need You" and "Lonely People" for your 6th and 7th America songs!!!
edit- you forgot you did "You Can Do Magic" also.
Great song! Love America! Lonely People, Daisy Jane, I Need You, and Don't Cross The River, are all great!
@John Sexton Let me add one more... Today's The Day. 😊
Yes to all of these. Don't cross the river is just special
"Daisy Jane" is one of my personal favorites.
The group America was formed by 3 military sons living in England. I've always loved their sound!
America is a very underrated band
America has so many golden songs! Every one of them are timeless!!!!! Great reaction!
I am just noticing how boss the bass part is in this song -- it really moves, and it helps the song not bog down as it makes the tempo changes. What a great band.
Sister Golden Hair is one of the three songs that i want played at my funeral..I was 5 when I heard it for the first time with my mom singing along with it in 1975 and I've loved it ever since.
Amber you are so intuitive and aware. You got the point of this song right away. I wore this tape out back in the day.
This was a great singalong song!
A few more for you: Lonely People, Don’t Cross the River, I Need You, Daisy Jane, Sandman, Three Roses, Woman Tonight, Only in your Heart.
I love harmonies, and America kills it when it comes to harmonizing. “Daisy Jane” is another good song of theirs. Can y’all do more Brandi Carlile, you’ve only done her once. Her and the twins (who are the bass and guitar player and her songwriting partners) give you some really good harmonies also. Check out their song “The Eye” to hear them harmonize.
Brandi live…. Just the best!
@@sarahadjemian3425 100% I see her live as often as I can. Can’t wait for The Gorge show in June!
I've been wanting them to hit "Daisy Jane" and "Only In Your Heart" for so long!
I don't think they've done Brandi Carlisle's best song by far, "The Story"
Tell him Amber! Tell J to get on board with these lyrics and realize just what a good song this is! I really dig how you were vibing to this Amber. This was a very memorable song from my teens. I loved the group America. Glad you do too.👍👍
I'm glad you finally found one of their all time best songs. Actually, you can't go wrong with America, all their songs are great!
All their songs are *not* great. And that goes for every band that ever existed. It boggles my mind why some people say absurd schit like this. smh
@@Cosmo-Kramer compared to today's SCHIT, all their songs are great!
@@magneto7930 YES!
@@Cosmo-Kramer so who left you in charge and made you the expert. People are allowed opinions, unfortunately so are you. Let the man have his say.
The song Daisy Jane is yet another classic you should give a listen too.
This song has an instant hook. If Ai were to write a perfect arrangement in song it would be this song. This song is smooth groovin, but it also has a hard fast undertone that contrasts with the smooth groovin aspect, making a dynamic masterpiece. Listen to how carefully it's pieces blend themselves.
Daisy Jane Daisy Jane Daisy Jane.
The thing about Ai is that it couldn't have the soul sounds of this song or the other songs of America ❤❤❤️
@@marleneobstnash5517 The thing about AI, it will never have a soul.
My sister and brother in-law just went to an America concert just this past weekend in Hawaii. So they are still active after over 50 years. Amazing.
I saw them in concert just a few months back they were really good. Their voices were perfect.
Keith, I saw them 42 years ago!!😮
@@michaelasay8587 I bet that was an amazing concert. They never came to my area so I never got the chance to see them then. So glad to find out they were coming to my town a few months ago. Bought tickets immediately lol.
@@michaelasay8587 I just saw an ad recently they'll be performing near me. I had no idea they were touring
I saw them in late 1984 or early 1985 in Goose Creek, South Carolina (outside of Charleston), in a nightclub setting, and they were outstanding. I think they had recently released their Perspectives album, which was a good album for a band like them coming to maturity in the context of the music of the mid 80s. I liked Cinderella, Special Girl, and a few other songs from that album. They left a guitar string on the stage, and I picked it up. I meant to keep it as a souvenir, but I think I inadvertently used it to string one of my guitars. 😊
You've done America. You've done Ambrosia. Now, you need to do The Association. They were the soft pop rock kings of the late 60's. "Cherish", "Windy", "Along Comes Mary", "Never My Love" and "Everything That Touches You" are must-listen romantic rock standards.
Absolutely!
Absolutely “Never My Love”
@@skoop7641 I love that tune.
He is right, fantastic vocals.
@James Mott When I hear "Along Comes Mary" on the oldies station, I TURN it up immediately....the Association had some great soft pop songs!
The follow-up single to Sister Golden Hair was called "Daisy Jane" and is definitely worth checking out!
I absolutely love this song. The memories of listening to this as my parents played it in the car almost brings tears to my eyes.
what do you mean "almost"?
I can’t speak for Suzy but “almost” typically means it came close to happening but never actually did happen.
@@stephaniegauntt6894 I know what the word means. I mean that it does bring tears to my eyes, and it ought to bring them to hers, not almost bring them. Comprende?
Love America!! Saw them in ‘77 in Norman! “Lonely People” is my favorite!🤘🔥
Three singers, great harmonies. I saw them sing California Dreaming and it was absolutely the best version ever.
One of my favorites from America. My younger brother called and asked me, hey sis have you listened to the group America? Of course, I said yes. They are awesome. I just purchased their vinyl record album. Love their sound! So smooth and soft. ❤❤❤❤
i love this song my grandpa actually went too highschool with the band in the 60s
This was so incredibly popular back in the '70s. Always on the radio. (Love it!)
I love the Group America. My favorite song they sing is Daisy Jane ❤
Love the Song "Sister Golden Hair". My favorite America song.
😮 this is the quintessential America tune!!… As usual… Amber knows where it’s at! Again… It’s no rock lobster… But it’s a great tune.… And America’s best.
The writing, the arrangement, the harmonies, the melody. Need I say more. It's another timeless classic by America. Great songs like this one will always be loved.
This was a bigtime hit for these guys. It was all over the radio. Was just our basic standard kind of radio play when I was a young guy. Thanks for this. Great reaction. See ya on the next. Go with God. Peace and love, y'all.
"lonely people" and " don't cross the river" are also great songs by America.
Back when I was a teen, I got this song on a 45 record. Still have it...one of my all time favorite songs from the 1970s. America had a lot of nice songs!
This was on every "road trip" cassette or CD I had. I'm so grateful to have been around for the 60s and 70s. Best music ever!
The band America is forever associated with road trips in my mind thanks to a camping trip I took when I was 10 or so; my half-brother's dad took the two of us up to the upper peninsula of Michigan for a week-long camping trip with his family, and on both the drive up and while we were driving around there, one of the albums he played multiple times was America's greatest hits. I've had the lyrics to half that album memorized for over 20 years thanks to him.
Love this band!!!! I remember hearing this song on the “radio” when it first came out…. Yeah, I’m old!!!! So many classics to choose from. Saw them in 2018 here in LA in a small venue…. Incredible show!!! Got to meet the band after the show too… more America, please!!!!!
"You Can Do Magic" was nice too.
You are correct!!! Make someone smile. Love, be nice, compassionate, respectful, patient, caring, generous, be apathetic, be humble especially in this troubled world. As I mentioned before, I was so lucky to have grown up in the 60s. 70s, and 80s music and I cannot tell you the feeling of hearing these songs again. And [some] songs are my least favorites, but they are real 'time machines'. Bread and and the bands like them they have a special tone for the time that they were played. It matched the era, even though music is transcending and timeless. But you are honest and that is extremely vital to the success of your channel. Thank you.
Here is a song that touches us-intimately, because we have all gone through this scenario-if only in our imagination. It tells our story put to music. Back then, the lyrics captivated us. When we hear it now, it touches our core; it touches our memories of the person we were.
This is an amazing song!
I always turn it up when it comes on my playlist!
I have been pursuing this song for decades! Recorded it off the radio. Bought a CD for it. Downloaded to an mp3 player. I will always have this song on a playlist.
Girl….. you are my musical twin! And you are so young to appreciate all those bands. I was 12 when this song came out😊😊
If you guys read this, I have a song suggestion. Me and my family just lost my grandfather, Richard. He died of lung cancer at the age of 78, on the 15th of March, 2023. Before he was taken away to the funeral home, my mother discovered a song and played it next to him on repeat, because the words meant so much to her. It described everything going on, and how selfless of a man he was. It’s a song called “Just Breathe” by Pearl Jam. It made us all cry. We were truly blessed to have him. As a father, an uncle, and to me, a grandfather.
RIP Grampy, we miss you.
So sorry for your loss and you're right that song is beautiful
@@judyduguay8673 Thank you very much, I appreciate it.
I'm sorry. My grandparents passed a long time ago, so I'm an old fogie. It's hard when family members cross over. It won't be long until my sisters start to go, and I don't look forward to it.
@@JohnJackson-si5bz My grandfather was the first one to go in my family (while I’ve been alive, at least) and that thought scares me.
Reminds me of a girl I had a crush on back in 1975. Big time! Love this song. Brings back my youth.
I truly love America's song Daisy Jane.
The fact that they listened to almost the entire song before pausing tells me that Jay might have liked this song a little more than he realizes.
Sometimes you have to listen to a song a couple of times to really "get" the groove of it. I however, love 💗 this song! In HS, a group of us would sing this one and other favs at lunchtime and driving around. Just like "Wayne's World" 😂
The late, great Sir George Martin who produced the Beatles, produced this song along with its parent album. You can't go wrong with a George Martin production.
America was the first concert I went to in 1982/83. I remember lying on the floor in playing with my toys listening to this song at just 3-4 years old; this would have been 1975/76. One of my earliest memories.
This is my favorite America song.....all their songs are good but this is the best. Hands down...
I was 19 when this came out and it was all over the radio. Ah, those were the days! You might like Daisy Chain and You Can Do Magic. Saw them in the mid 80's and they sounded perfect! Best of all, I won the tickets from a radio station and it was at my fave venue, The Greek Theater
My wife & I both really love this song. I'm glad you checked it out!
You know, there are a lot of other reaction channels out there. But you're the best! You approach the music so personally, and you are both so open. Thank you.
I was a student at USM(Mississippi) 1974-75 my freshman year. America came to the campus for a concert. $3 for students. They played their usual hits and said we're going to try a new song out for you. This song.
AMERICA was huge in the 70s. Soft Rock, easy listening, POP, whatever you want to call it, they had some great songs either way
Love this great 70s Band. They wrote and performed some of the best music ever.
One of their biggest hits!
Lots more America to discover! Lonely People, Daisy Jane, I Need You and Sandman ✌️
When you put the harmonies of Gerry, Dewey and Dan together with the Production genius of George Martin then you approach perfection.
A classic song and this group was always outstanding.
When this song came out, I was goo-goo for a beautiful little golden haired girl names Sarah Lee. Every time I hear this, I remember her.
I had a Sarah Lee, too. Her name was Susie, and she loved this song. And when I hear this song I think of Susie. Such a long time ago. . .
So sweet 💕💕
Thanks for sharing.
Another good band often overlooked is the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. They had two songs that got a lot of airplay - "If you want to get to heaven", and "Jackie Blue".
My wife calls this the Bob Villa song because of the ending. She hears "Bob Villa, Bob Villa ." Bob Villa did a show called "This Old House" on PBS. 😅
The very first song I learned on guitar back around 1980 (age 12)! In hindsight, lots of chords for a beginner, my teacher should have picked an easier song for an absolute beginner, but I realize now he was just teaching me songs that he knew! I would recommend “Magic” as your next America reaction.
These guys still put on an amazing concert!!!! Love America!
Have always LOVED this song. I have seen America in concert when I was 21 and also 51
America. Sometimes I just HAVE to listen to them, just like sometimes I need to have a glass of 7-up with a lemon slice and ice. It's just so amazingly refreshing! ☮
Jay never likes like songs that aren't hard rock. Amber likes it all. Slow, fast, hard, soft. If the Melody is there, them so is Amber. You go girl.
My era as a teen, great song, great reaction , thank you.
America also performed „The Last Unicorn“ which is the title song of the movie „The Last Unicorn“. Two things in one to react to.😉
Dan Peek was one of my favorite voices - he left the band when he became a born again Christian and became a Christian Contemporary music artist. He still sang the song, Lonely People. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 60, due to heart disease. So young - very sad.
Such a great song! Takes me back to my youth! Love America! ❤❤
This CD was produced by the one and ONLY George Martin of Beatles fame. Song sounds like a George Harrison tune.... MAJOR EPICNESSSS!!!!
Amber, you are such a good soul. I can almost see the bright aura that surrounds you…;)
Ok gotta tell u guys- lately I've been having weird panic/anxiety attacks I've never had anything like that in my entire 53 yrs- and watching your videos SERIOUSLY helps- whether its music or movie reactions as long as they're not death metal or scary movies- it frickin seriously calms my nerves! What's up with that?
Oh my goodness. One of those 45s that came out HUNDREDS of times during my childhood. Just a flat out great song. Once it gets in your head it never gets out. In a good way ;) It's like the Byrds meets the Eagles but with some extra "groove". Didn't have those thoughts on it as a kid ... I just knew I felt good when it came on.
That is a great analization😊
@@RobertSmith-iw2kb Why thank you :)
America - “Daisy Jane” is one of my favorites. It’s easy listening just like Amber loves (and so do I), but hopefully the piano and touches of the beautiful cello are enough to get Jordan on our side lol.
They’ve done a Hello Its Me
@@4508bluesky They sure did, back in October. Either I missed it or forget that I saw it already, either scenario is possible lol. Thanks for reminding me!
@@pattyestrada6 You’re Welcome ❤️
America had a string of hits in the 70s and are still out there. One of those great bands that people are at the concert and say "Oh, I forgot that was them too!" So many classics. Get their greatest hits for more great stuff.
I turned 7 in 1975 when this song was released. It was one of the first records I listened to repeatedly as my older sister had it on 45 and have loved it ever since.
"America is a British-American rock band formed in London in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley, all Americans. The trio met as sons of US Air Force personnel stationed in London, where they began performing live."
Fantastic song! One of their most popular and one of my favs. Beautiful song. Long live the 70's.
Glad you played and enjoyed America. They were very big in the 1970s. Another band I’d recommend is Blackmore’s Night. While they’ve been around “only” 25 years, Ritchie Blackmore has a long and hugely influential role in rock as the lead guitarist and songwriter for Deep Purple and Rainbow. He and his wife Candice Night formed their group to write songs they’ve drawn from myths, history and legends. A few I’d suggest are “Fires at Midnight,” “Storm,” and “World of Stone.”
as an 18 y/o, this is one of my favorite songs ever
When I was child my parents would put on the radio or vinyl records and spend the weekend doing the Spring cleaning. This song will always remind me of Spring, sunbeams through the windows and the smell of Pine.
I listened to this as a child growing up I love this old stuff takes me back to 10 years old
I'll be 58 soon
This one reminds me of the loud speakers blaring this out at the swimming pool when I was a carefree kid in the 70s! Probably my favorite America song ... thanks for doing a video on it.
This band is so damn good, they named a friggin' country after it!
They all were military kids that formed the band and decided on the name America to let people know where they were from
A few fun facts about this song, the record this comes from, Hearts from 1975, was produced by Beatles producer Sir George Martin. The opening and bridge acoustic guitar riffs were a nod to George Harrison's My Sweet Lord. Guitarist Gerry Beckley wrote this song, but not anything from his personal experience, he wrote it as an exercise in trying to emulate Jackson Browne's writing style, Browne even ended up helping with a lyric that he was having problems with, Beckley had written "will you meet me in L.A.", but Browne suggested "will you meet me in the air".
I think Amber would absolutely LOVE the band Firefall, especially the song "You are the Woman."
Welcome aboard, youngsters! I became a fan of "America" in the mid 70's just as I was entering High School. "America" has many hits in their catalog.
This is one of the songs that when you aren't sure what you want to hear, turn this one on.
I was luckily enough to see America in the mid 80's. They played for close to three hours, and this was on the 4th of July weekend on the banks of the Mississippi River. Great concert and a lifelong memory.
😊
By far my favorite song by America! I love to listen to it and to play it. Such fun!
Also by America, I'd recommend "I Need You", "Three Roses", "Muskrat Love", "Old Man Took", and "Daisy Jane".
Classic 70's. When I'm old and in a nursing home I will still know every word.
This group formed in England in the early 70’s. Their dad’s were in the military stationed there. Great group.
America had a huge following and presence in the 1970s sound. Great band.
Beautiful music 🎶. I worked with a guy that did marketing for the band. He got us tickets to see them open for the Beach Boys at the Garden Stste Art Center. We saw them again at a small club and Kenny had them dedicate the song "I need you" to my wife. She was thrilled.
My favorite America song.. love the drum fills and guitars!!!
