    Thank you for this video!! After years of flying GPS drones, I got into FPV the last year and a half. There's nothing like it, I love it! But the skills I've gained from building FPV quads, I finally had the courage to replace the back left arm of my X8 2022 V2. And thanks to your video it was a piece of cake!

    Hey, thank you for this very helpful tutorial :) but a question camo to mind before i will replace my broken arm: wouldn`t it be much mor easy and even safer, if you dont mess with the soldering spots at all and just cut the old wires and solder them to the shortened new cables? I;m really not an expert so i hope for your reply if this strategy would make any sense...

    • @QCGUY
      @QCGUY  Před 11 měsíci +1

      No…I’m not saying it’s wrong or that it would cause any problems but I personally would never do that. If you are good at soldering it shouldn’t be a question as to what to do but if you are a board burning solderer it might be the better option to avoid damaging the board.

    Hey Chris, I know this is a bit off topic but I have the FIMI X8 2022 V2 and the 2020. On the V2 when I move the camera lens up and let go it immediately shifts to look straight down. This is when the power is off obviously. My 2020 camera doesn't do this. Just wondering if you think this is a problem or not? Everything seems fine when I turn the drone on but i was just concerned. Maybe somebody else out there would be able to help or theirs might do the same thing?

    • @QCGUY
      @QCGUY  Před rokem +1

      I find this with many drones and it’s the cable harness and/or the ribbon cable that runs internally on the gimbals.
      Simply put it’s just how the cables are run and not a problem at all. It can be a nuisance in putting the gimbal cover on some modes though. Hope that helps bring you some understanding and piece of mind. ✌️

      Hard to say just what the problem is like this. The first things I do is take it apart and inspect all connections and wires.
      If you do need a new gimbal they are not as easy to find as they use to be. Since Covid so many things have become very hard to impossible to get without being raped in the price from a greedy seller. Sorry there not much else I can tell you without looking at it first hand.

      @@DroneGraphy Hi mate I've stripped one of those gimbal down and rebuild one from another that had a faulty gimbal motor I would suggest checking the video multi cable silver one and removing the back of the camera and chucking the plug is making a good connection and the video board under the front top cover as in Chris video might have been damaged from the crash where it comes out of the gimbal if I remember correctly you would need to remove the gimbal to access the rear of the camera take photos of the cables from the top of the gimbal cover removed and cut in-between the 3 gimbal cable to remove the sealant be very carful as the ribbon cables are delicate take photos of positions and mark with a marker pen or the could rub ie tear on the top of the gimbal plus remove bottom cover and check the main flex from the video module pcb is making a good connection.

    Can you help to diagnose? My Fimi X8SE 2020 has flown for 50 hours but now it will not spin up the front right prop. (Just prior it did a takeoff, hovered for 30 seconds and then landed itself declaring a propeller fault.) Now it will only "tickle" the FR prop then declare a fault, regardless if props are installed. The impedances and connections look OK to me compared to other motors in circuit and no short to the motor housing. Also the bearing and play feel just fine with slight resistance from the magnets. There is no obvious physical damage at the motor drive transistors so I suspect the motor. Have you seen any with motor drive circuit failures? THANK YOU for any help! , Bob H.

      @@QCGUY Thank You for the videos and response to my question. I took the time to swap motor leads between two arms and the problem points to the motor control, the problem moved to another arm. Now it gets expensive...
      I've enjoyed the Fimi and learned to trust it even in extreme conditions. On one occasion I flew hard in a hot wind and the battery overheated (delaminated and ballooned) but she still returned home before locking out that battery pack.
      I appreciate the insights that you provide.

    • @robertheim352
      @robertheim352 Před 2 lety +1

      Success! One N-channel MOSFET to the motor winding was blown and the corresponding gate drive resistor (20 Ohm) was open. No PCB damage and the resistor appears fine visually, I suspect it simply had a subtle production flaw that resulted in the open. So the open gate condition caused the transistor to go hard on and then burn out. The gate driver chip (+ processor) is fine; had a 30 minute flight after repair.
      Thanks again, you gave me confidence to go at this menagerie construct. The biggest challenges were releasing glue on the gimbal motor connectors, and finding a suitable transistor ( Panjit PJQ4402P).
      Also surprising that the drone landed itself (30ft) when this failure occurred. I wonder: Can it fly with only thee props? Regardless, I was very lucky that it occurred close to me or the drone would likely have been lost.

      It’s all the same installation for all 3 models with the antennas being the only difference in the front legs.
      You can find the right legs if you look hard enough and you can use a older leg on the newer model for the left side and just not use the antenna. Maybe it’s the right side I can’t remember but you can cut the antenna cables.

    Hello Chris, sorry to bother here. I have a crashed Fimi X8 SE 2020 version with badly damaged gimbal; seems my curse is gimbal problem as happened to my Autel Nano plus which I never enjoyed. Long story short, I could not get proper damper to fix it so I intended to buy a new one without the batteries. Then I saw there was a 2022 version so I contacted Fimi to know if my controller for the 2020 would work with the 2022 version and guess their answer, a big NO, hehehe..ofcourse I figured because they want me to buy the 2022 with all of the accesories. So, what do think, will the controller work with the 2022 version since there isn't any difference between the two models

    Good Night
    After a normal flight without any problem, my Fimi X8 SE (date:2019.03) has a problem with the gimbal, the camera, and maybe more ...
    Symptoms :
    - No longer performs the gimbal movements at startup.
    - The application Fimi Navi displays the messages "Gimbal not ready" and "Gimbal not detected".
    - The "Drone status" screen shows "Gimbal Abnormal".
    - The "Firmware update" screen shows "N/A" for Camera, Gimbal, Vision (in June 2020, the firmwares were normal and up to date)
    - Otherwise the Fimi X8 connects correctly to the RC, IMU and GPS work correctly, but the screen remains black.
    - Connecting to the USB port of my PC no longer gives access to FC_BLACKBOX, FC_UPGRADE, FIMI SD drives.
    - No microSD card seems to be readable by the Fimi X8 anymore.
    (these 2 last problems make it impossible to downgrade any firmware)
    Actions performed :
    - uninstalling and reinstalling Fimi Navi, without success
    - I opened the cover of the gimbal to look for a disconnected cable, everything seems normal
    Thanks

      I keep in mind what a drone is worth versus what I charge because for what most charge people would be without their drone they already invested batteries, cases and other accessories in.

    Hello Christopher, I also have a broken leg on my Fimi x8 20, front right (FR). Stupidly, I can not find anywhere a hint where the antenna cable is supposed to go. Since you have already disassembled everything, you may know the place on the board where the gold shoe comes in. With the board pointing up, I think it's the black cable on the far left that runs solo below the leg's connector cables in the black sleeve under the black foam. I haven't solved it yet. Can you maybe take a look at my photos in the short video to possibly confirm this? czcams.com/video/BZ2HBbixhnA/video.html
