Can You Beat Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time on Hardcore with only the Wrench?

- A Crack in Time is one of my favorite games ever made. I know everything about the game. Is that going to help me in my most difficult run of this game yet? Is it possible to beat the game on Hardcore difficuly while only using the wrench? I had to clear my schedule for this one, this is going to take MANY hours. Hope you enjoy! :)

Not too surprised by the result - not only is it one of the few bosses that gives you respawnning ammo crates instead of expecting you to use the wrench if you run out of ammo, it is also the last boss before it becomes possible to obtain the RYNO V, so they are understandably given a ridiculous amount of health on Hardcore - I am not even sure if it is POSSIBLE to bring enough ammo to win without needing more from a crate, and maxxing out your weapons for the fight is surprisingly practical - Insomniac are actually kind to the player in Hardcore in some ways, they made normal enemies give way more weapon exp when you kill them, and IIRC they also give more bolts.
Reminder that the RYNO V is a ridiculous weapon - not only does it have high damage relative to other RYNO weapons, if you own it it changes the rules for ammo crates - they ignore all other weapons and instead respawn once the RYNO V is low on ammo, even if you own every other weapon and they all have full ammo.
I couldn't have said it better. The Exp. Rate goes up drastically when entering Gimlick Valley to fight Argos. Oh, and you are absolutely right, the RYNO V is one of the best RaC weapons of all time. Plus, let's never forget the awesome music that plays!
45:23 Great video, something so random I noticed...they use the British/Canadian spelling of "armour" instead of the American spelling "armor" and I've never noticed this until now. Like in England/Canada you'd say "colour" instead of "color", it's so weird seeing this in a game made in America. Great job on the wrench challenge, you're going to blow up if you keep at it. I never liked the second trilogy of Ratchet games myself, but it's great to see someone so passionate about this game.
The PAL (European) version of the game uses British/Canadian spellings, while the NTSC (American) version uses American spellings.
It's only America that spells the words* without the u. Australia and New Zealand also use the u.

Omg. I can only imagine how happy and mad you must have felt when you figured out you didn’t have to do the nefarious space station fights since the swing shot targets were already there. I relate a lot to that feeling haha. Great video!

I beat this game multiple times as a kid, and I never knew about the freezing mechanic against Vorselon. That's pretty neat

I freaking loved the wrench in this game because you could throw it so smoothly while moving. Probably one of my favorite games in the series excluding nostalgia. My inbox is flooded with R&C and I definitely need to have a marathon of the whole series at some point cause it's been a while

I can understand not being willing to complete the run, but you've proven it's possible to hit phase 2 Argos without getting hit - unreliable, but possible.
Which of course means that the fight is theoretically possible at that point, just unreasonably difficult.
Nope! Phase 2 is INSANELY hard to beat, but it is litterally impossible to do damage to Argos in Phase 3 with only the wrench. And also with guns, or you have to get insane luck with Negotiator rockets spawn. Which I never got in the entire afternoon I've battled Argos

You should try beating the ghost busters game with only the proton stream and no upgrades on the hardest difficulty, I am about to attempt a run myself because I was curious about it and no videos have been made for it, not to mention your video was pretty sick

More than likely the game expects the Argorians to be in a certain spot by the time it’s animation should’ve ended, but the time bombs where actually for cut content so their interactions aren’t necessarily coded into the game and instead due to the expected positioning and the actual positioning being different the game assumes the Argorian is glitched and deletes it.
Oh believe me you are definitely glad you did not try vorselon on hardcore wrench only. I tried it except made it harder by doing it on challenge mode in hardcore. He kills you in like 6 or 7 hits with thr max armor which may not seem that bad. Until you realize how little damage the wrench actually does and how fast he throws his attacks at you. I would consider the fight basically impossible. Even if someone was to make up a strategy it would take who knows how long to actually beat him. And to make matters worse when you get him to half health he cuts the arena into 4 quarters which will damage you if you touch which makes it even harder. If someone were to beat vorselon on hardcore challenge mode with only the wrench then. I don't know what I would think, the idea of it is so conceptually impossible. I'm not even sure if a bot can beat it. And even then there would be one more challenge to add to the fight. Doing it without getting hit while only using the wrench. That right there is just the definition of impossible. Anyway sorry about my rant therex great video I was always wondering when someone would try a hardcore wrench only run. Great work.

I wanted to be one of those "this is literally a speedrun category" people, but both submitted runs are on casual difficulty, so I guess it isn't!

bruh i remember that hydra tank thing in a demo for this before it was public and i found it insanely easy to beat using the wrench yet the people i watch try it were just getting slapped acrossed the face i guess it helps when i do hard challanges as well like exterminated dif with no weps above lvl 10
Honestly, even if you'd gotten past Argos, Nefarious and Azimuth would have been utter hell with how fast they move and how much health they have. Vorselon 3 would have been nearly impossible too, considering you can dump a V5 RYNO into him and barely strip half his HP.
It's tough man, I do have a followup video on my channel where I try to best this save file with lvl 1 weapons. If thats the standard, I really do believe the final three bosses to be impossible with only the wrench

There are speed runs doing the game wrench only... but those aren't on hardcore. So normally yes but on hardcore no.
I have done this. But Hardcore NG+ is completely impossible wrench only

Ok you stole an idea I had several years ago and made it even more masochistic.
I was thinking about completing the game with only unmodified Constructo Pistol and Negotiator - the run with no additional weapons.
Only what you get you can use, no bought weapons, only story missions, only what's necessary to complete the game with and thus, no armor outside the default Holoflux one.
Should be a fun run!

Good video, one problem I have with it though is that you keep talking about sections of the game that are not very hard to beat with wrench only. You should only put in the video things that are actually interesting. This would also make the video a lot shorter.
