I show you how to upgrade a Dell XPS 15 (9550) laptop.
We upgrade ram, M.2 SSD and install a fresh version of Windows 10..

Thanks for this. Been thinking for ages about an up grade to get a little more life out of the laptop. So the OS runs from both drives hence the HD must also be replaced/wiped or removed?
No OS runs from one drive you switch it to the faster one for quick load times. Othe other drive is for memory storage.
I have the $4000 version of this computer 7 years old now and it's been a headache for 7 years. Dell were much too ambitious with their announcements of capabilities, they released it far before it was ready, and upgrading it with parts did little to make it a better computer. Time for a Mac 16.
I never liked Dell and their computer skues.

Yes, make sure you have the Wi-Fi card driver ready.. it will need to be installed manually to get your computer back to normal
@@jaymous91 ok, so forgive my questions and humour me one last time: at the moment I do not see the SSD partition, but my laptop says it only has one drive (the 1tb HD). If I upgrade the SSD module to a 512gb one, will I actually see that space? Or do I need to do something special for it to show up?
You will have to follow the steps in the video (turn off raid) install windows on the SSD and update everything. you can the turn raid back on and add HDD as internal storage

No that’s to old I would by a slightly newer model then update that with the drive and ram.

Any NVME module, don’t over spend on speed you will not get the full potential due to old hardware

How did you get the Wifi drivers installed? I cannot seem to figure it out.
I used another computer and found the Wi-Fi drivers on Dells website. It will show up as a Bluetooth driver but it is actually the Wi-Fi one. Or you can go to your original C Drive and copy the driver from there.
@@jaymous91 I tried that and could not get it to work. I bought a $10 wifi usb dongle off Amazon and it worked perfectly!

@@vins2393 it’s the Bluetooth driver, that contain both Wi-Fi and BT. I think it is the Broadcom one

Glad we could help some people out 👍🏼 I'm still running this laptop to this day. But I think the battery is about done and doesn't hold a charge very long.
