Unboxing and swatching Neocolor II by Caran d'Ache

Unboxing, swatching, and playing with the Caran d'Ache Neocolor II water soluble wax pastels, in a tin of 15. These are usually about £15 on Amazon, although I got mine a bit cheaper on a deal.
I mostly work with watercolour pans and sometimes gouache, so I was interested to see how these compare to my usual Winsor and Newton Cotman range. Supposedly they are better (artist grade rather than student) but I didn't really notice any difference, other than what you'd expect from a crayon versus pans. What do you think?

If you wish to pick up colour off the crayon don’t use the tip side use the flat base and wipe the wetness off with a tissue afterwards. To avoid lines on the page instead of colouring with the crayon on your paper use a palette board or dish and scribble then pick up pigment with a brush, the less water used the more like a gouache it becomes. I like to use water brushes with my neo twos so I can manage and adjust the amount of water. Hope this helps. I only have the thirty set but you can mix an astounding array of colours. Be aware that the thirty set come with the fifteen set you are using so I recommend buying other colours open stock if you can. I believe there is 84 in the Neo 2 full range. Have fun ❤❤❤

@@clairewalters8238 Thanks for the info 🤗 I just discovered the palette trick but didn't know about the 30 pack having the same as the 15! I've got an extra salmon and olive brown now but I'm craving another shade of green 💚

If you don’t want the mess from the crayons on your hand transferring to the paper, just put a piece of scrap paper between your hand, and the paper you’re creating art on.
