I think that the biggest negative for me is that none of the sets included the appropriate paper. It wouldn't need to be a pad of the paper, but a few pieces of sample papers would be helpful. If there were paper included, it would definitely add to my 'inspiration' to use the box right away.

I was excited until I realized these boxes don't exist in Germany. But I'm completely new to this hobby anyway. It's good that I found this channel so quickly. I'll start with Castle Arts Soft Touch unless I'm the lucky winner of the giveaway. Thanks for all the information. I am a statistician myself and would be completely absorbed in the details that take so much time but are so valuable for everyone. You two + dogs are incredible 🥰

We don’t have these boxes in Canada either. Last year I reached out to Faber Castell Canada asking for such a box explaining that I was really interested in learning about their products. They sent me a Polychromos pencil, a Pitt Pen, a watercolour pencil, a marker or two, an eraser and a graphite pencil… for free. Reach out to your country FC office, you never know!

@@gabinat I contacted Faber-Castell customer service, and they informed me that I need to be patient. The introduction of the boxes in Germany is planned for June next year. However, it will only be the “Art & Graphic Boxes” and not the “Blue Creative Studio Boxes”. Thank you for your advice :)

I like that the large collapsible cup was teal/turquoise which is a color they don't normally offer! It's a shame it didn't come with a lid like the normal cup does. I also didn't realize how big those are; I assumed they'd be as small as that clear cup that doesn't work as well. And I'd agree the first two boxes are much better overall. If someone was interested in the Albert Durer I'd consider buying that $25 wet box, to see if they like the Goldfaber, and then try out the Albert Durer open stock or just get that set of 6 instead, if the $25 box isn't as interesting. I don't think the $40 wet box is worth it; for that price on Blick right now, 18th of June, the box of 24 Albert Durer pencils is about $38! (Blick is having a pretty big sale right now admittedly but I also don't think I've ever seen them listed for full retail price before.)

Thank you for this! I like the Art and Graphic wet because I don't have any of the items in there except for a generic waterbrush. The collapsible water cup is so bad. For that to work correctly, you might have to pull it up hard, which I would be scared to break it. I have some metal shot glasses that collapse in this way and they work fine (without pulling it up hard).
All I would be interested in trying are the pencils and the markers, though. At that price, it may be better to buy the pencils and a couple of pens for playing with than the box. But, if you can get the box at a discount, it would still make a nice gift with a watercolor sketchbook.
I've been taking a class in drawing, so I think the Art and Graphic dry is a good fit for a small subset of artists. I think it's curated well, but the price isn't good enough.

Regarding the leaking cup, for that type of collapsible cup, usually you pull it up & then twist it to lock it in place. So maybe try that. Amazon is selling those boxes at full retail price now, so not as good of a deal as what you got them for.

  • @user-wk1mw9nj3i76
    @user-wk1mw9nj3i76 Před měsícem +1

I would love to try the Artist grade boxes, but the leaking water cup seems worse than cheap versions found in the camping aisle at Wal-Mart, haha. I think the value comes from the ability to give these as gifts, in interesting and sturdy boxes, but c’mon Faber Castell, give us a little break on the prices. Personally, the Castell 9000 drawing pencils are my absolute favorite; I’ve been very curious about the matte pencil, and I’ve never tried the watercolor A. Dürer pencils, the pastel pencils, or the eraser pencil, but they look really interesting to outdoorsy me. I would try out the Artist grade dry set for outdoors or wildlife sketching, and the tiny palette looks like it would be easily portable.
I love the FC Polychromos color pencils more than any other brand, better than Caran D’Ache for me. The student grade box materials are ok, except that sturdy version of a collapsible cup is a great item! In a nice color too. Wish it was in the Artist grade set, but that would raise the price. I would rather have more art tools than having paper included, too. I don’t think FC makes paper, anyway. Trade-offs!
Thanks, Jennifer, for your detailed review and bringing these sets to our attention! ❤

Fantastic review once again, I love your channel🤩 Just a thought about the Art and Graphic dry box; I think it's great for people who are sketching, life drawing artists but not if you can buy everything separately for less!! Here in the UK you can buy their Pitt Monochrome sets in two different sizes for £16 (blister pack) or £20 (lovely tin) which contain the same/similar materials and I think these are a great way to try a few of their products in a cost effective way.🙂

Hullo Jen, Steve & Rose! I appreciate all of your hard work putting this video together, Thanks! I have tried the FC Pastel sticks and honestly they are nothing to write home about. i have not tried any of their pastel pencils being very happy with the CarbOthello brand and I did pick up the big tin of Derwent pastel pencils at a local garage sale and they were sold as used, but looked brand new! Just $25.00, a real deal! I imagine for newcomers to any of these mediums, these boxes are a very good deal and a very good introduction to these mediums too! You guys did a wonderful job on ALL of these supplies Thank You!

I loved that you can see how good the quality is from your test page. The Black eraser is supposed to erase cleanly...smear free. I would have loved to hear feedback on this as I haven't tried thier black eraser before.

I appreciated the reviews. They are helpful to me. Thank you!
I am more likely to get the dry, student-grade set or the wet student-grade set than I am the pro sets. I would like both of them for different projects.
I use colored pencils and markers the most in my artwork and want to get a feel for their materials. My favorite pencils are Prismacolor but I only have student grade pencils anyway. I am working on an order for 100 A-2 sized invitation cards with a tear-off reply postcard portion for a pastor inviting individuals for Bible study. Each card has a printed verse, a very light grey rubber-stamped image that I am using as a guide but not truly following as printed...so essentially each card is a one-of-a-kind work of art. I've completed about 70 so far. I have another pastor who is also interested in me doing some for him, we'll see.
I thank you for the information on the give-away. Those pencils will be a blessing to someone! I would love to have a set... 12-pack or 24-pack sets of colored pencils are limited...but use what you've got, right? Blessing to you, Jennifer!

The first box box (the Creative Studio Wet Meduims) looks like a great bargain for student artists. I would definitely recommend it to beginner teen or adult art students. I have most of those products already, so no need to repurchase. The watercolor Goldfaber Aqua pencils are my favorite for my travel art kit. If a pencil gets beat up, I don't feel too precious about it, but still good quality on the go. Without trying the paint, I don' have an opinion, but if they hold their own with Cotman or Dale Rowney's Aquafine line, then they should be good for a beginner or a crafter. The big disadvantage I see to the watercolor paint (especially for students learning to paint) is the lack of information about the paint, like pigment, binder, lightfastness, etc.

Those boxes are brilliant, and you always do such a wonderful job of thoroughly and honestly showing us everything in such great detail.
I like the Art and Graphic Box very much. I think you should challenge yourself to do a piece of artwork using those items and colors, (think Albert Dürer).
And, just as a side note, the color sequin is pronounced seh-geen. I'm from Texas, and there is a town there by that name, (but not named after the color, but after Juan Seguin, some military dude long ago). No worries-- there was once a time when many people were unaware of how to pronounce "Ochre", Utah, too. 😊

I don't think either artist's grade box were worth it. The dry medium box is really only useful to those who may want to try portraits. I was very disappointed to see the bland colors. The wet one is sorta pointless with the exception of the pencils. If you wanted to try the pencils I would just buy those separately and skip the rest of the box. I also think they should have included a few sheets of water color paper with the wet medium boxes. Having to buy a whole pad of paper defeats the purpose of a try it box.
