@@pictograph No. The YF-12 was an interceptor hence the F in the name, it was supposed to intercept and shootdown enemy supersonic bombers, it was built as a weapon system with the AIM-47 Falcon.
The AIM-47 Falcon never entered service as the YF-12 never did, but they were fully developed and tested and ready for serial production when the project was cancelled. in fact when it was cancelled the aircraft has already received an official airforce designation as the F-12B, as well as appeared on the budget as such.
The AIM-47 Falcon was designed to be launched at Mach 3+ cruising speeds which the YF-12 was capable of reaching and indeed they tested the missile with launches at Mach 3.2-3.3. The AIM-47 Falcon and the radar developed for the YF-12 ended up being the basis for the AIM-54 Phoenix and the massive radar of the F-14.

Starfighter is older by a few months if we go by date of first flight. March vs. August of '54. Lightning F.6 only reaches 1:1 thrust to weight in burner with about 1,000 lbs of fuel on board, so I'd like to see the numbers on the version that can go through Mach 1 in a vertical climb. Seems unlikely in the F.6 and even then only just before it flames out from fuel starvation (the Avons go through 505 lbs/min each in burner). Also pretty certain the F-15 will go through Mach 1 going straight up with an empty weight of 28,000 lbs and total burner thrust of 47,540 lbs.

Here is interesting fact: During British Airways trials in April 1985, Concorde was offered as a "target" to NATO fighters including F-15 Eagles, F-16 Fighting Falcons, F-14 Tomcats, Mirages, and F-104 Starfighters - but only Lightning XR749, flown by Mike Hale and described by him as "a very hot ship, even for a Lightning", managed to overtake Concorde on a stern conversion intercept. If the Eagle failed where the Lightning succeeded, I suspect the Eagle driver wasn't trying. Same for the Starfighter, the top speed was about the same as the Lightning, but while the Lightning took "under 3 minutes" (per Wikipedia) to climb to 11,000m the Starfighter held the time to climb record for 12,000m @ 99.90 seconds (also per Wikipedia).

The initial intent of the YF-12 program was to drop a large bomb on Russia, but even that did not pan out. Not also withstanding the amount of time and cost it took for one SR-71 to fly. Interesting fact about it though is that Briefly they did not hook up with a tanker in five minutes after Takeoff, it had to return. After a successful partial fueling, it flew to altitude and then dove to heat up the skin to stop all of the leaks as that was how the aircraft was designed. These aircraft of course had to be handbuilt and could not be fully mass produced like most aircraft only the U.S could afford to operate them but in the end they were probably were never going to be fighters or interceptors.

There are thousands of F-15's in active service and it's platform serves as a superiority fighter who's legacy continues to be one of the best not by its performance alone, but it's ability to adapt to changing technology architecture. Cue in the F-15EX. Also, the two fighters serve different roles. The F-22 plays a sentry role, that coordinates and identifies targets under the safety blanket of stealth, while the F-15's are the long range interceptors who fire and forget. With the advent of the stealth eagle, the F-15EX might replace the F-22 if anything, but both play a major role in modern day air superiority.

The topspeed is today mostly irrelevant, supercruise counts. Supercruise means that the jet can travel at Mach 1 without afterburner, because the afterburner drastically reduces the range by burning giant amounts of fuel. Today oposing fighter jets in combat fire also rockets at each other from a far distance. In this case counts from wich far distance on the rockets could be fired and how precise did they find their target. Figher jet dogfights are a thing of the past.

The faster you go the further and the more precise your rocket can reliably hit its target. Beyond visual range combat is all about bleeding the rockets speed. To call topspeed irrelevant is very far from the truth (imo) and the high topspeed of the F-15 compared to it's rivals combined with the amraam-missles which can use that advantage is one of the reasons for her legendary k/d-ratio. Dogfights or merges almost always happen beneath mach-1 so I don't see it's relevance in the argument.

Dogfights are a thing of the pass, eh? So tell me, what are you planning on doing when the tiny amount of missiles your plane can carry runs out? Run back home with your tail between your legs? 😂😂😂😂😂😂There's a reason why most if not all of these "stealth" planes still have guns and/or can add them on if the need arises. To even remotely suggest that dogfights are a thing of the past is to completely ignore the fact that while missiles are capable, missiles can miss and unlike in games you don't have an infinite amount of them to fire. In fact, you'll often find in certain situations that the pilot will save their missiles and use their guns instead.

Top speed is not something you use in dogfights. While it isn't as important as it used to be, a faster jet is generally better if all other things were equal. That's because it further increases missile range, allows to more easily dodge opponens' missiles, as well as allows to more easily intercept targets by giving them more time to react.

I rarely comment on videos (for realz, look at my profile) But I have to pause in between each vehicle on all of your segments (not just this one) just to read all the descriptions. Maybe wait a little longer before switching to the next vehicle?

A lot of people don't realize that the fastest human flight pilots, besides capsules on re-entry, flew the X-15, to the edge of space. Neil Armstrong flew one and almost skipped off the atmosphere like a stone over water. He only did an emergency maneuver and landed in a different state as a result.

The Su-57 has a cruising speed without afterburning. The maximum speed of this fighter is almost 2.6M

The Su-57 is expected to reach Mach 2.6 upon completion of the new Izdeliye 30 engine in 2027. Currently, the maximum speed of this aircraft is Mach 2.0. These claims are very doubtful, because even the new engine for the Su-57 will be 9% weaker than F-22`s Pratt & Whitney f119.
