- Today I’m sharing prohibited items for the airplane. You are not allowed to pack certain items that go through the Transportation Security Administration line in a carryon bag. Some things are not allowed in your checked luggage. Here is a list of dangerous items you are not allowed to fly with. I also have travel tips throughout this list.

I just wanted to chime in and say thank you, Laurie. As a TSA officer, one of the things I hate having to do is have passengers surrender items that exceed 3.4 ounces. Please folks, just transfer important creams into a 3.4 ounce container. It's better to spend two dollars at Target for a container than to have to surrender a twenty or thirty dollar facial cream or lotion.
Excuse-me sir but is it wrong to ask a agent a 3.4 bottles or toiletries bag for ointment 🧴
Just found you and love your tips and tricks for travel. Thanks 😊
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing!!!
Good to know tips. TFS Laurie.
Hi Laurie, great video 😊
A few years ago my dad was stopped at the Cancun airport and prohibited from bringing a ping pong paddle in his carryon. A flipping ping pong paddle. He had to check it because it was considered a weapon. Hashtag: Worst weapon EVER. (He likes to play ping pong at our resort. He’s pretty good and he has his own paddle, and he didn’t want to lose it.) The world has gone crazy.
Oh wow! I can't believe that. Other countries are sometimes more strict and less strict. Ya never know. I'm so sad that that happened to him.
IiI
I know! What about these martial arts folks? Boxers. Military soldiers! They can kill people w their bare hands! Are they going to hand cuff them next?!?!!!
My Swedish wooden clogs are probably more dangerous than ping pong paddles.
hi madam..can i bring rejuvenating item like cream, toner in my check in luggage.thanks for the reply...im ur avid viewer.
Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you for the video's. It helps so much.
Thank you for all these great tips. I'll be sure to check all your other travel tips.
Thank you; here is my latest: bit.ly/BestShoesTravel
Hi Laurie! This was a great refresher for all travelers. Great video. Thank you
You are so welcome!
Hi Laurie,
Love your blog !
We are currently in Greece !
I loved what you wrote about lithium batteries!
I have Raynauds so I carry battery hand warmers! ❤
Another great video! I always seem to learn something that applies to me.
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks! I've watched several of your videos now and they are all most helpful
Glad you like them!
Thanks Laurie, another great video!
You are so welcome!
Love your channel. You are so helpful giving all the info for traveling. We are going to Ireland in November and we have not flown since Covid. I’m a retired teacher from South Carolina and I watch your channel all the time!
Yay retirement!!! Aint it grand? Both my parents were teachers as was I. We have close friends on IOP. Dad played at USC :)
Useful info because the rules have changed through the years. I bought a golf club (a putter) in Honolulu and flew to L.A. with it as a carry on item. But that's not allowed now. Good to know.
My husband and I have a trip to Europe planned for the end of May 🤞🏻 and I’m getting nervous already about what to pack. This video and several of your other videos have been helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Have fun! Once that airplane door closes you will forget all the anxiety!
Hello, Thank you for all the tips and very interesting videos. I am watching them non-stop
Thank you for your time! Have a great trip
Hi Laurie, thank you for sharing all the travel hacks. I really pick up every time and challenge myself to do better and pack light😏😬 - next time. As you may remember, I’m from Denmark 🇩🇰 and my next trip is this Saturday (next week) going to the Canary Islands for a week with my hubby meeting another couple arriving the following Monday. We will be having a lot of fun together and enjoy the weather🌤🏝⛱, the food🥩🥓🥗🍤sangria🍹🍹.
Ooh I am so very happy for both of you! Have fun!
I was a traveling nurse in the late 80s and I travelled with my little taser gun in my carry on multiple times and no one ever noticed it. Times sure have changed!!!
Yes they have!!
Great video with good ideas. It always amazes me what people try to bring and then try to convince TSA to let them bring that half full bottle of shampoo...
Ha!
Thank you, Laurie.
Thanks for watching!
Hi Laurie love all your videos! I have a small rechargeable fan and I can’t figure out if I can put it in my checked bag or does it go in my carry on. I did the Ask TSA and it wasn’t one of the options for me to choose. Thank you for all the help with all of your Airport and TSA videos.
Good, helpful information, Thanks!
Hi Fiona!
Thank You this helped a lot!
Glad it helped!
Hi I’m new to your channel. While I am not new to flying….I am new to international travel :) and my first international trip is coming up. Your videos have helped me with those essentials :) thanks!
I am so glad!!
Thank you for all videos
Thank you for watching!
Hi thanks for informative video
Any time1
Laurie I always watch I haven’t traveled since Covid but I watch all you videos to keep me up with changes I’ve had Covid twice dec 2019 and nov 2020 Igor my vaccines but I just stay away from people and that’s hard since I’m a people person but keep this info coming god bless you and your family safe travels for you all ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🌈🌈🌈
Hi, I hope your symptoms keep getting more mild. Hope you get to be with people again soon.
My 19 and 17 year old fly from Australia to US next week to visit family.. This is the first time either of them have flown on a plane since they were babies.Nothing like throwing them into the deep end with an international flight, two domestic legs and all the COVID regulations for their first trip! Thank you so much for all your videos. They are giving us all so much useful information to make their journey as smooth as possible.
Yay! Make sure they have the airline's app. They will feel so big and have a blast I'm sure! Still scary as a mom. Thank you!
Hello 🙂👋 Like your channel 😊👍 thanks a lot for sharing all the tips and advice for traveling! God Bless you!
Thank you too!
I last travelled by plane 1/4/2020. Enjoying your videos. I'm a substitute teacher so I have the summer off.
Oh yay; you will love it! Enjoy your trip. I have a step by step walk through the tsa video as well as a new packing tip video: bit.ly/NewPackingTips
I should have known that you are an elementary teacher! You have that sweet and direct demeanor!
Oh good! Never realized that CZcams is actually teaching too.
Hello 👋 Thank you for sharing 😊
Thanks for visiting!
Hi. Thanks for your info.
Thanks for watching!
Hi Laurie! I really enjoy your videos. It might be helpful for viewers when you are doing "list" videos like this, to have an on screen check list that we can screenshot and keep with us. Thank you for all your tips.
Great idea! I had a blog but never updated it. I feel like people would jump to the list if I had the list though. The tsa.gov has a list for sure.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Great point! You are definitely authentic enough and entertaining enough to hold us here though. I have genuinely learned a lot of helpful information from you in the past week and shared tips and videos with my girlfriend for our flight tomorrow. So keep doing what you're doing Laurie! Good luck to you and thank you.
Love watching you Laurie. I had not traveled since the 1980's when I was military. Went to Mexico last May. Hopefully I will get to go on my Mediterranean cruise this May. Booked in in 2019 for my 60th birthday.
Oh how wonderful. We did a Med cruise. Loved only having to unpack once!!
Hello Laurie!! I’m saying hello because I am a new subscriber and I am so happy I found you!! I am 67 and will be flying for only the 2nd time in my life. The first flight I ever took from NY to Florida a large bird hit the engine and we had to make a emergency landing! Now 7 years later I am braving it again! Lol. I love your information because I haven’t a clue what to bring or do being it’s been so long for me. Again, Thank you very much for taking the time to inform us. I feel better already knowing I will be doing things right. Cheers!!!!
Oh my word I would never get on another one again lol. If you go to my channel on YTube, click on the word Videos and it'll show you the order I uploaded. That may help.
New to the channel and have been binge watching your videos to prepare for my international flight to Ibiza soon for a wedding! Your videos (especially TSA and carry-on vids) have been so helpful! I also use MaryKay so I love your shoutouts and tips about them. Keep on videoing on! blessings and love ~Dani
Oh good! Glad they have helped. What fears or qus do you have? Here are features to look for in personal item bags: czcams.com/video/KHg2EFACnNQ/video.html
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie so far only fear I have is weight of carry on and personal item combined. I am flying with Iberia and their website states combined it has to be no more than 22lbs 😬. I’m a military person and used to having a free checked bag, which means I throw it all in there and have no worries 😉. International flights don’t honor the military with a free checked bag sadly so I am trying to learn how to pack like a minimalist so I don’t go over that weight. If you have any insight on Iberia flights that would be greatly appreciated! (I know it’s super specific so if you don’t I understand 😊)
@@Danie08Dee92 So frustrating but have a great time
Hello, miss Laurie I like the way to explain everything, good to know that you're an elementary teacher like my mom...keep it up I learned more from you..,💕👏👌👍
Thank you!!!!
Retractable and extendable trekking poles are not allowed in the carry-on, although TSA can have the final say. Canes and walking sticks are allowed if required as an assistive device.
I would have the answer as a screenshot just in case.
I thought I should check my trekking poles. I need them for balance when I walk on trails, even flat ones.
Hi - I'm an ex-traveler. I very much enjoy ur show. Thank u.
Thank you Hallie!
My husband had to check and double check about transporting his new light saber he built at Disneyland, as a carryon. They ended up allowing it as his personal item, but it had to be kept in the bag provided by Disney when he made it and the hilt and light up "blade" had to be disconnected. It was a silly thing, but even pretend "weapons" are taken very seriously.
They sure are. Some officers allow them and some do not. His sounds fantastic!!
My sons wanted to get these too, but I refused bc I wasn't sure how the airport security would react. The day we left, we saw 2-3 adult men carrying the sabers onto the plane. 🤦🏻♀️ My boys gave me death glares.
Your videos are great!
I appreciate that!
Laurie, I love all your videos!!!
Thanks so much!
Is knitting needles and yarn allowed in the carry on bag?
@@rospac1122 Yes :)
Big honor and glad to me to find new friends on CZcams and of course today your channel get new fan and friend for always keep going im with you any time 🤠❤🇹🇷👍🏻💙 💫🌏
Welcome aboard!
Getting ready for another 2 week trip to visit family. I’m listening up!! Thanks for tips!
Super. Thank you!! Enjoy
Hi, have you ever filmed a video or thought of filming a video on mistakes you’ve made along the way? I truly enjoy your videos and all the tips you share with us😊😊. It seems every time I travel, I’m putting your tips to good use!!😊😊
Here's a great one although I think it is fuzzy somewhat. I did forget my reading glasses! Can you believe that: bit.ly/HowAvoidPackingMistakes
Thank you .🙏🌹
Thank you!
Great video thanks:)))
Laurie, the first time I saw your TSA video I downloaded the app; now I check it every time I fly to make sure I can still take my knitting needles & small scissors. You never know what changes might have taken place.
As always, thanks for all your tips & updates!
It seems like it changes daily.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie If you are going out of the US, you also may want to check the restrictions for the country you are going to be flying out of since they can be different, especially regarding which items have to be presented separately. I had to dig out my small knitting scissors for inspection when boarding a plane in Germany. It was fine to carry them on, but we got pulled out of line and asked to take them out, so that slowed us down.
Cheers!!
Just a tip for those who consume THC: HHC, Delta 8, and Delta 10 (regular MJ is delta 9), have various degrees of legality from state to state HHC is federally legal in all states since it’s hemp derived so it meets the small percent limits.
So I should be ok with a cbd pill that has .3% thc? I definitely need something bc I haven't been on a plane since 2012, and now the phobia/anxiety/w.e you call it has gotten worse 😬😬😬
The first time I looked at what was allowed and not allowed, it cracked me up!! I ended up reading the whole list!! Somethings I would never think about traveling with!! 😂
Right?!
Yes! Because, I always travel with paint! 🤦🏼♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣
Matches and lighters of any kind are NOT allowed in checked luggage. Torch style lighters and 140 proof alcohol are not allowed at all in either bag. I rechecked the TSA website on those.
Hi Laurie! I'm going to the UK in March to finally meet my long distance boyfriend of 1 year! We got together 11/20 after being best friends for 4 years! Could you give some tips on what to expect when going through customs/immigration? This is my first ever flight and I'm so excited/nervous!
Mace isn't allowed in the UK either. They treat it like a gun. But, they have some spray that is smelly you can buy.
Dang, I didn’t know that about the telephone batteries catching fire. I just thought it was odd that they would pick up my phone for me. Thanks
I did too for the longest time.
Hi Laurie, I’m wondering if I can take my 7oz hair spray in my carry on bag. Going to Ireland and packing with my compression bags just as you’ve taught me. Great info. Thank you so much!😊❤️
Hi since it’s a liquid, it needs to be in a container that is 3.4 oz or smaller. Sorry!
Hi gonna be going on my first trip your videos are very helpful thanks TvT i realized i know nothing
Knowledge is power! And no stress. Thank you!
Hi Laurie ! Greetings from Brazil. I'd like to know if I can pack my nail scissors and cuticle clippers in either my personal bag or carry on luggage. I'm kind of addicted to them, and I cannot travel without any of those. Thank you very much ! I have been learning so much from your channel. Congrats !
Hi, this should help: www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all
Oh, you are a teacher, that explains how good you are a communicating information. 😂
Hello Laurie! Share with us where you’ve been traveling too lately! ✈️
Just did a road trip to Austin is all.
Hello Laurie - I am not a savvy traveler especially re: Flying. I've been binge watching your videos over the last 2-3 months. Hubs and I are flying to Cozumel for our daughter's wedding. I see that you can purchase OTC medicines in Cozumel. I'd like to bring some doxycycline back with me for a friend who has roseacea. (He has taken it before and it works... but he does not have medical insurance). It's an antibiotic and not a controlled substance. I remember you mentioning the TSA doesn't 'police' medication. Do you think I could bring it back to USA from CZM ?
Hi your channel has been a lifesaver! I go on my very first flight in April and it's for a school conference event. Do you happen to know if I am allowed to bring a poster on the plane? I'm hoping I can and that it doesn't count as my one personal item because I need to pack my laptop too 😅 thanks!
Hmmm hard to tell. Could you mail it to the hotel by chance? I would think you could take it but some people throw and move the suitcases in the overhead bins.
Hello from WV 🌺
Hi thanks for being here!
Great presentation as usual! How can I touch base with you with questions?
Hi! You can leave a comment question.
There have been changes to the lithium battery rules. There is a TSA app that covers just about everything.
Thank u for your tips.. Can i bring rechargable handy electric fan on carry on luggage?
Hi yes you can.
Can you take an Eye Lash Curler in your carry on?
The biggest problem is the inconsistency of the TSA at each airport if not each agent.
I agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY!!!
I always carry a small (blades less than 4" from the fulcrum) pair of scissors ✂️ in my carry on. No problem at all.
Yes, scissors less than 4 in blade are allowed.
It does get you pulled over though! On two occasions we forgot to check that our kids had emptied their school-backpacks properly before travel. They were stopped for a check of their carry-ons and a pair of school scissors turned up! They were measured with a measuring tape and we got to keep them, but as soon as they see scissors on their screen they will check. (Which is good)
@@katrinastewart5456 I fly about every 30-90 days and I have never been stopped by TSA for my little scissors. Ever.
Hi Laurie! I’m live in Vietnam. I bought a telescope (for beginners only) at Amazon for my son, my uncle will bring it to Vietnam. So packing a telescope in carry on bag is allow?! or need to check bag. Hope to hear from you. gregard
I'm flying to Florida soon and to Japan a few days after Christmas. ( If Japan opens up).
Oh how exciting!!
Hi Laurie, I’m new to your channel. I found your video informative. Could you please tell me, is hand sanitizer allowed on board with you? Thank you!
Hi, just found the answer to my question on one of your other videos. Thanks so much!
Yay! Just be sure it's no more than 12 oz and not in the liquids bag. It needs to be in gray bin by itself.
Going on a plane for the first time ever this year...any videos I should watch for complete newbies to flying???
Here is a great start; find others in the description box of each video: bit.ly/HowToGoThroughTSA On my CZcams channel if you can find Playlists, I have one for first timers.
hi laurie! I just want to ask, what about a pressurized container that is a medicine? like a nasal spray, will that be okay? it’s 50 ml
Hi, that is totally okay to pack in your liquids bag.
Hello, thank you for sharing your air travel experiences with regards at airport check points. This will be my first time travelling to Australia for a contract sponsored work, still awaiting outcome. Are several 3.4 ounces liquid and powder packs in one see through plastic bag allowed? Are there fines involved? Is packing 10 days wear with accessories for economic reasons too much? Appreciate your sincere comment.
Hi and I'm so happy for you. The powder pacs do not need to be in with the liquids. If you can afford to take a checked suitcase, you can take large containers of liquids in there. I wear my shirts twice and have several packing outfit tips. Here is a video: bit.ly/HowToGoThroughTSA
Figures skates can be brought as a carryon on some airlines
Hello. I would like to take ear buds with me to listen on my iPhone. Will WIRELESS earbuds work or will I have to use a pair of plug in my phone wired earbuds? Thank you
I am flying to Orlando in 2023. I want to know if I can bring a yeti 26oz in my carry on bag with no liquid in it. Is that prohibited. With jet blue
I haven’t flown in 20 years and next month I’m going on a 6 hour direct flight east coast to west coast. I’m worried I’m going to be crazy bored. Can I bring colored pencils or a set of gel pens for some adult coloring to pass the time? Or a deck of cards? Have you done a video for tips for passing time on a plane? I won’t be able to sleep due to nervousness and excitement. I’m really nervous about security too and getting separated from my family.
I cannot ever sleep either. I would bring whatever craft you like to do - even knitting needles are allowed.
I don’t understand the phone falling to the floor and the seat can roll over we it? I thought the seats were bolted down.
Oddly Bullwhips are a prohibited item for carry-ons
Do you prefer a soft side suitcase with zipper on top or hard side suitcase with two equal sides that are shallower? Just want your thoughts on why you choose the style you like.
We both prefer soft-sided.
Hi Laurie! What about thermal water mist spray? Is it allowed on the carry-on? The bottle is 1,6oz.
And what about a plastic knife? Is it allowed on the carry on too? That is part of a set of fork, spoon and knife. Thank you!
Hi they are both allowed. I would make sure the spray is in your liquids bag. Have fun!
I travel with a regular size sterile contact solution. It's sterile so it can't be decanted. And there is no travel sizes. I've managed so far, but I'm always sure my next trip will be the time. I checked tsa and it's considered medical.
Oh that is wonderful news! I travel with preservative free eye drops but they come in individual vials.
Hi can I take sewing machine in carry-on bag
What about “Strike On Box Matches”? Is that the same as strike anywhere or does it specifically HAVE to say that?
Even if you put it in a container without the strike strip
They’re strike anywhere-yep I never knew they made them either.
Hi Laurie! I have a question. I'm traveling to Rome, Italy with my daughter and her friend in June. I have 2 personal alarms to take with us. We are not checking luggage though. Can we put them in our carry-on. I would just feel safer wondering around at night if we had them.
Yes you can!
Out of curiosity, at check in do they note if a passenger has a hand carry with them? And upon boarding, do the workers at the gate check or know if you didn't show that you have a hand carry at check in?
Hi, for carry-on bags, they do not check here in the US until you are at the gate ready to board the airplane. You scan your ticket and they look at your bags.
Hello, I like to knit. Wondering if knitting needle is allowed inside the cabin.
Hi, they are allowed. Have fun!
This Video is 2 years old, I would like to know if all of these rules are still in effect today, and if any of them are not or new ones to add, do you have a more updated video? Thank you.
Hi, those are all still correct. It may help to go to tsa.gov and tap on What Can I Bring in the upper corner. This may help: bit.ly/DoNotWearAirportSecurityLine
New subscriber here. Been marathoning a lot of your videos for the past couple of weeks. Flying for the first time ever on the 12th of June 😬
Pardon my ignorance but does anybody know if the Hilton hotels have bar soap for when you have to shower? Or is that something I should pack? Never stayed at a hotel either 😅
Yay I am so excited for you! Most hotels have bar soap. Remember if there is a small item you forget, ask the front desk. Sometimes they keep small amenities b/c so many people forget them. And definitely ask the hotel staff for authentic restaurants.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie thank you so much! ☺️
I have a CPAP and TSA told me that my bottle of distilled water is allowed no matter what size because it is considered as Medical Equipment but I had my distilled water bottle confiscated at the airport. I said it's considered Medical Equipment and the TSA Official treated me like a terrorist. Also they almost hauled me away because I couldn't remove my shoes. I was in a wheelchair at the time because I got hit by a truck and my knee was fractured and swollen.
Oooh, I would call them to complain. I'm so sorry!! I do think that now the bottle of distilled water is not allowed.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I called TSA on this before one vacation I took a few years ago and they said that they said that if it's for Medical Equipment, that it's ok. 3.4 oz bottle is NOT enough for half the humidifier trough.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie, when my BF flew to Oregon in 2021, he was allowed to take his bottle of distilled water with his CPAP machine.
@@daynad8104 Yes! It was allowed and may still be with some officers. I recently sent them a message asking if it was allowed still, and they said no. But you may be able to; I would just be prepared to throw it away just in case. It is inconsistent with every airport-like shoes and sometimes you do not have to take out your liquids bag in some airports and in another on the same day, they will make you take it out. That's awesome that he got to!!
Hello!!
I did see the comment about prescription drugs being taken with you. But I have a prescription drug that is considered a controlled substance. I do not want to bring the whole bottle (dry pill form) is it ok to put those in a small container for carry on? Flying local. Thank you!
Yes! You could ask your pharmacist for a small label for the container?
You should definitely work for TSA one day.
Whew! They're doing so much better these days thankfully.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie yes they are!
What's the scoop on taking 15ml bottles of Essential oils? Thanks.
Hi, you are allowed liquids in 100 ml containers or smaller.
Can I bring water in a 3 oz container. Can I bring two 3 oz containers of water on the plane
