Epic Games sued Apple so they could make more money from Fortnite - Apple sued back because THEY wanted more money through the App Store. But is that the whole story? It's clearly not, because we made a whole video about it. This fight is a WAY bigger deal than a simple cash grab.

Hiya! I've worked in corporate warranty response, and while I prefer Right to Repair as a consumer, the hidden costs to it from a corporate standpoint make sense as well.
Apple has sensors in the iPhone that cause it to brick if the battery is too far out of spec. It's not that NO aftermarket batteries work; it's that a battery with poor voltage and charging regulation trip the sensors. Why? Well, say someone replaces their battery with a $3 unit from eBay. The battery overcharges because, as it turns out, the manufacturer has stuffed in an 800 mAh battery that the phone expects to be a 3000 mAh battery. It doesn't trip the thermals because the cheap battery always reports the same safe temperature to the phone, rather than an actual temperature. The battery explodes under the user's pillow. Apple might not be sued by the owner, but their stock price will be negatively impacted by the news cycle of exploding iPhones; it turns out that this one battery isn't an isolated event, and that the eBay seller's batteries have exploded in the possession of dozens of other people. Apple has a PR nightmare.
We've already seen this play out. A driver set a DVD player on the dash of his Tesla and was killed when it struck a tractor trailer. Tesla share prices dropped, despite the fact that it was idiotic user error.
To a similar degree, software is also a concern. Allowing third-party distribution of apps that circumvents the malware protective of the App Store not only allows for the phone downloading infected apps to be infected, but it allows the infection to travel to other clean phones by manner of things like Airdropping files.
I specifically buy iPhones for the secure app development and distribution. I could choose to go to another manufacturer, be it on Android or another platform.

Well yeah that is true. But that's something you have to give to Apple: The iOS apps are often better than their Android counterparts, have no potential malicious code in it and are (mostly) better optimized. That's the advantage of having a closed system with a powerful supervisor: You (almost) can't sneak bad stuff in there. That's also what Microsoft wants to do with Windows 10 S. It's not stupid. It's smart. You simply cannot install malicious software on your computer if ever piece of software you can install has been verified by the supervisor (Apple/Microsoft). Microsoft wants to fight the "Windows is insecure and has tons of viruses" prejudice. If you know what you're doing this prejudice is false but you can really mess your computer up if you're a retard. With Windows 10 S and the Apple App Store this is literally next to impossible. That's why I understand Apple: It's literally their business model to have a closed system. And somehow it works. They've got the market share and a single solution as to how you can install software. Developers are forced to obey their rules if they want to make money on their platform. Which they do since Apple has over 40% market share (which is absolutely nuts if you think about it). Microsoft is trying to do the same but I don't think they'll succeed. Successfully closing a system is way harder than opening it. At least if you don't want to kill all developers.
Personally I prefer Android as an operating system because I think iOS is too limiting in terms of customization, hardware choice, storage, file management and stuff like that. But I admit: Their apps are just simply better. There is basically no useful productivity app on Android. And if there are, they are either made incredibly cheap, look and operate very poor, are filled with ads or just lack 90% of the features you need. On iOS there is a high quality app for literally anything: Drawing, sketching, taking notes, CAD, video and audio editing, photography tools. You name it. If you need a piece of software, there is a pretty good chance there is a good app out there. Even the few good productivity apps that are available on Android are also available on iOS.
But basically everything costs money on iOS. It is truly possible to use your iPad as your main computer (in certain jobs). I'm still going to stick with my PC and an Android phone just because I happen not to be able to do my work on an iPad (heavy CAD, ECAD, rendering,...) and because I don't like iOS. I like it's apps but not the OS.

Console E stores are not the only place to buy video games on consoles, you can go out and buy a physical disk at a store. Therefore it is not a monopoly. Same with Steam, you can buy only from steam if you want, but it's not your ONLY option.
Apple and google don't allow different store fronts on their phones, and dictate how much percentage they take from the people being forced to use their storefront (or be unable to distribute their product) which IS a monopoly.

Collusion requires proof of intent. That requires writing down that you know your breaking the law and Colluding. Nobody is that dumb. You may find notes on meeting, on what your going to do, on the transaction, but that is not proof of intent to COLLUSION..
The investigator needs to interview the person, question them to establish knowledge of COLLUSION. If you can't be questioned, the investigator can not establish COLLUSION. And apparently if your lawyer knows that if you are question you will provide the proof to the investigator of you knowingly participated in COLLUSION, you can say "No, if I am investigated, I will convict myself. So you can't speak to me direct. List your questions, and my lawyers will answer it. I'm to busy to be convicted."
Exonerated rofl - You don't want to acknowledge whatever that partnership is - Fine. But "Exonerated", I don't believe a President indeb to Russia is cool, if your fine with it, your choice. But if you believe "Exonerated", I'm sorry for you. You played toooo much football.

You absolutely own your hardware or device. What you do not own is the right to do whatever you want to with the software and expect Apple to support your decision. Apple creates software and operating systems that they fully support for a very long while. If you are okay to continue without any support, feel free to load whatever operation system you can get on said hardware or device.

@@khj697 Not on an apple device, unless you find an exploit it is physically impossible to run any code on iOS devices that is not digitally signed by apple. If you replace the operating system, the CPU will refuse to boot, due to a lack of a valid signature on the system files from apple.

I've been annoyed by the lack of 3rd party stores on Apple and Android devices for ages. In the EU, some years ago, Microsoft was forced to display options for which web browser you wanted as a standard during initial setup. I've always seen the App stores as an even greater violation of anti-monopoly regulations.
