  • Ok, so I found the problem. Turned out that Costco loves to air impact their lug nuts on, and not torque them down. By doing this, they didn't tighten a couple of them fully.

    This is an excellent video. It’s good to first read the note the video maker, Dan, left under the video title (click the down “v” arrow to the right of the title), then, read all of the reviews. It gives you ideas to check or investigate if you’re having similar issues like I am. Thanks Dan.

      its always a good thing to check your lugs every month. if you have a harbor freight nearby, pick up a 1/2 in. click type torque wrench and the proper sized socket for your wheels lugs. check them once a month and never worry again.

    I have the same problem with my Astra G. I put wheel studs (bolts) in the hub so I could put 15" rims on it, since then it's been making that tick tick noise only on the front right wheel. I changed the CV joint, it wasn't the problem. :/
    Turns out that the Astra G was not made to have protruding wheel studs, but to have "male" lug nuts which pass through the rim and tighten down into the "female" wheel hub holes. :(

    This is a similar sound coming from my truck, but it’s loud. I checked behind the wheel at the ball joins (I’m not that knowledgeable when it comes to cars but I try). Just that the sound from my truck is more rhythmic, as if you put something in your bicycle spokes and drove slowly. A friend of mine who is fairly knowledgeable on automobiles said it may be loose lugs, so I’ll have o check it out and hope it isn’t something too serious. Whatever it is, the sound is driving me nuts.

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 Před 5 lety +1

      Because the wheel is loose from the lug nuts not being tight so the wheel flexes some from the weight of the vehicle and the centrifical forces of the wheel and weight of the car when turning ! All newer cars and trucks the lug nuts should be torqued to the proper torque value so as not to warp the rotors as well because the rotors are made much thinner now compared to the older cars and trucks of years past ! The other thing is if your car or truck has Aluminum alloy wheels your supposed to have all the lug nuts re torqued again after 50 miles so they won't come loose after the first initial torque coming out of the shop ! Good shops will tell you this and good shops will use what they call torque sticks to speed the process of initial torque of the lug nuts then use a torque wrench set at the factory desired torque spec for the final torque of the lug nuts so as not to over tighten the lug nuts which can gall the lug threads strip the lug nut stretch the lug stud or warp the rotors so if you go to have your tires done at a shop make sure to ask if they use torque sticks or not because some do some don't ! Some places just use the torque wrench to tighten the lugs first instead of the torque sticks because they aren't cheap in price when buying from Snap - on or other expensive tool companies but in a shop that has many customers and it's super busy torque sticks are the way to go because they speed up the initial process of torquing the lug nuts on using the impact over just using the ratcheting motion of the torque wrench it self to screw down the lug nuts or some guys lower the air power on the impact gun they are using to put the lug nuts on at a lower foot pounds of torque then use the torque wrench after for the final torque specifications but it's always better to use the torque sticks in the first place so there is no way to over tighten the lug nuts unless the mechanic makes a mistake and sets the torque setting too high on the torque wrench ! Hope this helps you understand what you asked in your question as I was a mechanic for 30 years !
