    Sunflowers are so beautiful🌻 Those hardy, thick stalks make me think of them as that raspy voiced beauty who doesn’t take any crap from anyone - a flower that is gorgeous but not fragile.
    It must be so satisfying to color your own ink drawings. I think you’re amazingly fast. That’s a lot of depth and detail completed in 1.25 hrs. See you for part 2!

    After having just discovered you and your channel, and seeing that you haven’t uploaded a video in a month or more, I just wanted to drop a line and ask that you not give up on sharing your content and your expertise with the colored pencil. I am a hyper-realistic graphite pencil artist who recently decided to delve into colored pencil artwork, and frankly, it is a beast of a completely different….errrr….color. Without a doubt, it is like night and day. And I am always looking for colored pencil virtuosos to watch and to learn from. Regardless how many views your videos actually get, the fact is that SOMEONE is watching, and typically people don’t find videos like yours in their feeds unless they were exploring the subject matter of colored pencil art. So while there may not be many people seeing your videos (in comparison to other relatively inane and superficial channels), those who DO watch your videos must be people who have a genuine interest or need of your content (me for one). So please keep uploading. I also enjoy your fly by the seat of your pants approach - human, honest, not afraid to be real, making mistakes and fixing them. Your approach is natural and casual. I genuinely enjoy watching you work. And of course your voice is soothing, a nice complement to how you approach your art. Again, don’t throw in the towel. You’ll have at least one person watching you (myself). Thank you for what you do. -- DMT

      D. I cannot express how much your comment meant to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have taken some time off to take care of personal stuff (longer than I expected though). It’s true that I get discouraged occasionally with the number of views. I know I shouldn’t, and I do try not to let it bother me. I have some very wonderful and loyal viewers. I will be back very soon with more videos. Again, thank you for such a wonderful and encouraging comment. ❤️❤️❤️

      @@ArtbyKarenValentine well let me do you one better. I have several questions, if you would let me pick your brain, and at least - while my asking these questions isn’t entirely altruistic - still you will take comfort in the knowledge that someone is taking an active interest in your work, your approach to your work, and the manner in which you employ your techniques.
      Let me explain my situation. As I’ve said before, I am very familiar with graphite artwork. I won’t elaborate too much on the kind of graphite pencil work I have done (it would kind of be like the fish-that-got-away story), but suffice it ti say that I have always enjoyed graphite work, and hyper-realism - while not genuinely regarded as “art” in the more high-browed (some would say “pompous” sense of the word) - has always been a satisfying challenge for me. I get a pleasure in the way people look in amazement at a piece.
      But I am also a man who who appreciates fine art. My favorite artist is Caravaggio. I also love Rembrandt and Titian. I tried my hand at oil painting, but I just can’t get the hang of wet-on-wet. Still, I’ve always wanted to be a color artist, and I thought with colored pencil (a cousin to the graphite pencil, if you will), I’d find I’d have an easier time with the learning curve. I discovered that nothing could be further from the truth.

      @Malibu_Man Před 9 měsíci

      @@ArtbyKarenValentineII. So do you mind if I ask a few innocent questions? The first and foremost question is why is blending so difficult? Obviously my end goal is to create very realistic colored pencil work from my professional photography (I am a professional photographer). Why am I not getting the transitions from one tone to another? Even using grays, wax or oil, I simply cannot seem to accomplish an invisible transition from white to black and all shades between. The number of swatches I’ve done in an effort to learn this seemingly basic skill is innumerable. When I decided to do this, I bought every conceivable brand of colored pencil I could find, and I didn’t skimp. Polychromos, Prismacolors, Caran D’Ash, Holbein. I didn’t want to be lacking. And yes, I invested equally in paper. But for the life of me, I still fail to accomplish getting that nice clean transition.

    • @Malibu_Man
      @Malibu_Man Před 9 měsíci

      @@ArtbyKarenValentineIII. I am familiar with the theory of tooth. So the issue isn’t the paper. It just isn’t clicking for me. I am missing something. Am I not pressing lightly enough, and I am sacrificing more layers in favor of impatient frustration? I don’t think I have tried to pursue anything as fervently as I have tried to pursue this. I know that if I can learn this medium, I will feel satisfied and delighted by my accomplishments in the pieces I will create. But it seems that the gods have decided that this is one means of expression that will continue to evade me. And this coming from a man who is a writer and a musician and an artist. I am forever cerebral and creative. It’s in my blood. But THIS form expression continues to be a mystery to me.
      I wonder…
      Thanks for listening.

    • @ArtbyKarenValentine
      @ArtbyKarenValentine  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Hi Wiesje. My swatch charts help A LOT. They have large rectangles as opposed to the tiny ones many people use. Then it’s just by eye. Sometimes I’ll test a couple colors together on a scratch piece of paper. But as you will see in the video, sometimes I just go for it and get it wrong! 😂

    • @TrishDarbonne
      @TrishDarbonne Před 11 měsíci +2

      The Frugal Crafter (Lindsey Weirich) suggested making swatches in strips so that you have room to punch a hole with a standard handheld hole punch right in the middle of each swatched color. Then you can place your swatch card right over the inspiration color to get the closest match. The swatches are then placed on a book ring. I did this method with my alcohol markers and it helped a lot for color matching as closely as possible. It would work for any medium as long as you keep in mind that layering will make some differences (and probably help to achieve a better match, as well.)
