  • When I heard about the Pelagos in 39, I thought I was dreaming. This isn't just some cult hit, this is a reincarnation of the revered Tudor Snowflake. So this isn't just a normal review, this is a highly critical analysis of whether Tudor was able to thread the needle and make lightning strike twice.

I really like this watch. I was actually anticipating these upgrades like a more toothy bezel, the larger crown, rivetless bracelet and the T-fit clasp on the next gen BB58. But on a new 39mm Pelagos, I might have to pick one up sooner than later. I picked up the BB Pro recently and I think this would be a great addition to my one watch collection. 🤔

Your video title is spot on.
I was called by my AD for this watch and I was totally underwhelmed in person.
The sunburst bezel felt out of place, the sunburst dial seemed inorganic with the ethos of Tudor divers of the past, and the watch just ended up looking like the Seiko SPB143 to me for some reason.
I think if they had done a faithful refresh of the Tudor Sub, I would have been satisfied.

This one just feels a little off with the sunburst dial and bezel. A matte 40mm black or blue with 300mm would have been much more exciting to me. The Pelagos needs to be the purposeful “toolwatch” for Tudor. This will sell like hotcakes either way though.

Hi, thanks for the great video. If I could add some points to your wishlist for a revised P39, it would read as follows:
    1. Add a date function just as the P42 has
    2. Consider a saphire caseback like the North Flag had
    3. Add a quick strap-/bracelet change option as one kind find with multiple other brands
to switch between the titanium bracelet and i.e. the provided rubber strap
Happy to pay a couple of bucks extra for what I would then consider to be the perfect watch!

A very smart move by Tudor, making a more compact, thinner version of the original Pelagos that will appeal to a wider audience. Featuring a more handsome dial & 3D lume plots, the in-house COSC movement similar to the BB58, titanium bracelet with the T-Fit clasp (instead of that spring-style eye-sore) and a complimentary rubber strap is a big plus. My only reservation until I get hands on is the sunburst dial and bezel aesthetic.

Who knows? Maybe when a 39 Pelagos in blue comes, it may be a nice subdued blue, lose the red accent on the dial for a more monotone look, and maybe it may return to a flat/matte finish?

I agree this needs to be matte. It would be simultaneously classy, understated, purposeful, and rugged. You hit the nail on the head asking for a modern version of the blue snowflake. A very interesting view Max. I also have the LHD and love it for all the reasons that you mention. I have also seen the Pelagos 39 in the flesh and I must agree that the sunburst dial is very subtle but is a little more pronounced on the dive bezel, it also seems to be a lot lighter than my LHD. Do I want one? Yes, definitely. Why? Well it's different enough from the LHD to make it its own watch, also it's different enough from the BB58 looking like a watch that takes its cue from modern times like the flat sapphire crystal as opposed to the box type. I have to agree that a matt dial and bezel would be great but for me it might cross a tad too close to the LHD. Hopefully I'll get the call at some point. Some may rightly state that it dilutes the tool nature of the Pelagos family a little but I can live with that.

Your reasons for not liking it are not mine and to be fair to Tudor if my wrist was a little bit smaller it wouldn’t be an issue at all. I really like the bracelet and how flat the crystal is. The dial and bezel are great in my opinion. I’m probably going to get an Omega Planet Ocean or Aqua Terra next. They tick more of the boxes I need. I’ve been waiting for something decent from Tudor and it’s nearly perfect.

a number of recent Tudor releases mentioned but for some reason the one you have to see in person to fully appreciate is the 58 925 silver. just a flat gray but somehow so compelling that i thought i heard it say, "buy me!"

While I haven't made the decision to buy or skip yet (need to see it in the metal), I totally feel you. I would have loved a 39 LHD, basically (with roulette date). Now I'd also be curious to see a blue version, but I'm concerned Tudor may say there is already one...the FXD. Wait&See !

I tried this watch in person and I love it. I'm actually working towards buying one soon. I've always loved the look of the Pelagos over the Black Bay but the size ruined it for me. If Tudor releases this as an LHD, it would be perfect for me.

It'll be interesting to compare sales with those of the Black Bay 58. At the moment all we have are opinions from different commentators. They each have a unique charm, but let's just see how the market reacts over time.

I think is an almost perfect watch (no such thing as perfect), and frankly, I'd rather have this over the your Sub 14060; better looking and at least half the price. As far as it being too shiny, I haven't seen it in person, but other reviewers have noted that it's not as shiny as they thought it would be. Even the sunburst is only noticible under the harsh light. But since I like blue, I might wait for a blue version.

    • @Chenyu_Huang
      @Chenyu_Huang Před rokem

Agreed. I think the dial proportion looks better than the 14060. I'm seriously considering getting one of these, I already have a blue BB58 that I really love. This one feels more understated and tool oriented. I only wish they kept the same 20mm lug width so it can the same straps as my BB58.

    I perfectly agree to you.
As an owner Pelagos LHD, BB58 black dial and blue dial, BB Pro, BB Chrono, and BB GMT, new Pelagos 39
is perfect size but has lost tool watch looks by adding sunburst dial and shiny bezel. The red "Pelagos"
lettering is beauty but LHD also has it. I also don't understand why Tudor removed date upon downsizing
42mm to 39mm, as they can do it on BB Pro. Important factor of tool watch is robustness and not case
thickness. Seems like Pelagos 39 is selling well as other Tudor new releases in past few years, which
I bought six of them, but for me Pelagos 39 is incomplete to fill in the gap between Pelagos and BB58.

I got to try one on over the last weekend. It's light and dainty. Yes, it is dainty. It's feels small, on wrist it looks small. I think the weight was playing a Jedi mind trick on me, I was instantly disappointed, I thought this was the watch, unfortunately not for me. On the positive side I found it's very nice to see in person.

I have the 39mm and the LHD and I share these sentiments. I’m keeping both and love both but Tudor barely missed out on what could have been the perfect Tudor. Go back to matte finish on the dial and bezel and please bring back the cream markers and hands like the LHD.
I spoke with the President of Tudor USA while he was in Austin 1 month before the 39mm was released and told him what the perfect Tudor watch would be to me. They almost got it exactly as is described it, but missed on the matte dial/hands and cream patina, so close! Great job Tudor, keep them coming you are actually listening to us. I’ve bought 8 new Tudor watches in only 19 months from my AD in Austin and I’m a very loyal fan and customer.

It’s okay. I’d agree that the LHD colors would be awesome. I don’t like the novel on the dial. The shine doesn’t bother me as much as the sunburst but at this point I’d probably just try to get a submariner as well if I wanted this aesthetic

I agree totally about "the shining". If they can release a matte blue bezel and dial that would be a killer piece. And maybe add a roulette date window. And maybe lose the titanium and use steel instead. And maybe reduce the lug width to "normal” size. And maybe use that egg shell faux patina colour for the hands and hour markers. Am I asking for much?

I need a date complication! Everything else about it works for me. I haven’t seen it in the metal so I can’t comment on the sunburst bezel or dial. But from the videos, I’d lose the sunburst dial… they can keep a little shine to the bezel if they want, but even that is a bit weird given that literally every part of this watch is brushed. Given this, I’m inclined to agree with the OP… just add back the date. Dial symmetry is nice, but this watch has always been about function over form to me.
