Mega Millions was notably redesigned in 2017. Ticket prices were raised from $1 to $2 and the chances of winning the jackpot were decreased with more numbers drawn - resulting in bigger jackpots.

I hated the changes. I'd rather see tons of people win from a billion dollars as opposed to just one person. Nobody NEEDS a billion dollars. If you win 20 million and walk away with 7, that's going to allow you to live a very comfortable life.

It isn't like that in californiA chart for example it could be over $3,000,000 if it is won as the jackpot grows. And one winner can get the prize. Or it might be $30,000 plus and since they want to pay less if 2 or 3 winners win the same prize the money decreases so it could be $5,000 plus if there are 6 winners.

I'm going to spend $100 on scratch offs and play the same powerball numbers for 10 drawings twice a month for now on. I set my limit and I'm comfortable with that. You play DIFFERENT numbers if you choose to. Some people have one set of numbers they choose to play, others want to increase their chance of winning so they play multiple numbers. You can play up 5 different sets of numbers where I live.

The power play you choose will multiply your winnings by that amount for all winnings EXCEPT Jackpot. For example, if you win one million dollars and select 4 power plays, you get 4 million (less taxes of course).
