    I had a small win 11 years ago but was able to buy a house for cash, furnish it and buy a new truck. I still have both and am so grateful every single day. It would be so nice if thousands could win half a million and share the wealth, that's life changing.

      It brings awareness to lottery. People see a local person win or able to but a face on money and next time more people buy tickets. A percentage of ticket sales and winnings go to taxes for the local area which pays for a lot. In Georgia it pays for university for many students. Also, every state is different. Many states it's an option for the winner. But I agree, no one would every know if I won. Not even my wife.

      Or you can waste your money on a "CHANCE" and "HOPES" to win like the rest of the suckers. All the lottery is, is a gov't ploy to make you pay more taxes. You buy lottos after you've paid tax on the income you've earn only to have to pay tax on any winnings that you bought after you've paid taxes on it. But then, who ever wins, the gov't take a big chunk out of the winner's pay check (tax), so either way the Government take a majority of the money in this game bc at every step you pay taxes. You see what I'm saying? If you made 50k/yr for 20 yrs, you will be a millionaire -bc 50k x 20 yrs = 1,000,000. Now imagine if you spent more of your time, efforts, and money to reinvest in yourself or a business idea to make more than 50K/yr. Maybe instead of buying lottos you work towards making 100k/yr, then it will take you 10 yrs. You see what I'm saying? You can send all your money to the gov't for a "CHANCE" to win or you can spend it back into yourself which is a guaranteed win and then you put most of your money in "investments" so the gov't can't tax you like real rich ppl do. And you see all those ppl don't buy lotteries. Work hard and win at life instead.

    I would buy a decent sized house in a safe area (no need for a giant mansion), a new car, and mostly splurge on tech like a new phone, computer, TV, etc. I don't need too much or need a closet full of expensive brand name clothes and shoes. I'll also help my 4 best friends in a subtle way without telling them directly that I won. And of course, obviously, retire my parents. But, other than that, I'm keeping my mouth shut and never telling anyone that I won. I don't want or need that kind of attention.

    Typical reporter who is just a repeater, there are no lottery billionaires, taking the lump sum payout amount, after both state and federal taxes, the winner will get around $300MM, and if the winner takes the annuity, both state and federal taxes with be deducted each year and then inflation over the 30 year payout period will greatly devalue the actual buying power! Not even remotely close to becoming a billionaire with either option.

    • @albardo08
      @albardo08 Před 2 měsíci

      Correct. The lottery is a bait and switch legal fraud. If you take all the money in a lump sum, you get taxed 2 to 3 times depending on where you live. That means you get about 35% of the original prize money. The money listed is not even true, but is based on an annuity paid over 26 years. It's a sucker game anyway you look at it.

    The true irony of Jack Whittaker is that he was already financially successful in life, and winning the lottery just made him lose his mind and heart. He lost sight of what was most important in life, his family. The result: His marriage crumbled, his granddaughter died, and he eventually lost his money. Having good relationships with friends, family, neighbors and your local community, is much more important than having endless amounts of money. After watching so many episodes of "20/20" about the sad endings of lottery winners, I've learned that winning the lottery may make your dreams come true for a while but eventually that dream melts away and evolves into a nightmare. So, for those of you who are poor like me, count your blessings. You may not have a lot, but having people on your side is more than some people have, always remember that

Set yourself up with a decent income and enjoy what you have and stay as private as possible. Trying to show the world what you have will only lead to misery. The more people that know what you have means there will be that many hands out EXPECTING something from you.
