- I visited Unterhaching on the southern outskirts of the Bavarian capital Munich for SpVgg Unterhaching v Ausgburg in the DFB Pokal (German Cup).
The fans were amazing and it was genuinely one of the best atmospheres I've ever witnessed!
#football #soccer #germany - Sport
What's the best atmosphere in Germany?
That’s tough
Dresden, Frankfurt and Schalke. I am fan of neither, but they are objectively the best.
Good friend Sam,this is hard for me to answer!!!🏋️♂️
Stuttgart, Schalke, Frankfurt, Dresden, Magdeburg
There's a basketball team called bayren Munich???
The Pokal has such a good lay out , the early round format with the top teams having to play away from home to generate massive revenue and attention to lower league teams is something all football associations need to capitalise on.
Indeed. Instead our FA seem hellbent on destroying the FA Cup with big clubs no longer giving it the respect it deserves.
Scottish football badly needs a fresh proactive approach to our game. It scares me that football is losing its proper identity...money ruins everything. German football is the best 👌 The fans are always amazing 👏 🙌 I need to get to a game over there sometime. What an atmosphere 😱🔥
@@chrissumner9761 DFB-Pokal = 64 entrants per season, FA Cup = 700+ entrants. This is something the English FA *does* generally get right compared to most other countries.
@@oliverravenIn order to enter the DFB Pokal as a lower league team you have to win your regional Cup. These regional Cups have high attandance and get TV coverage, hence generate good funds.
@@oliverraven Calm down pal, you’ve got a bee in your bonnet haven’t you?
Germany still has that old football athmosphere. Beautiful grounds, loads of awayfans, having a nice beer around the stadium, many beautiful clubs, also in the lower divisions.
That’s why they fight for 50+1 and it won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
FC SANKT PAULI (HAMBURG) MILLERNTOR STADIUM
Only Britain and Germany do ‘loads of away fans’. Most of the little Europids don’t bother with away games unless a glory game.

You have to go to the match Unterhaching against 1860. This is a Highlight for every football Fan. This Derby is really underrated.
In the 4th Division, Regionalliga West, the match Aachen vs. Wuppertaler SV had 27,300 attendance in the stadium 2.5 weeks ago

As an Unterhaching Fan its really nice to see that people care about our club and enjoy their first match at our stadium so much! Best wishes from the „Vorstadt“! 😊

In Germany, you can find quality football and grounds even in the 4th or 5th tier.. regarding the atmosphere, I think Germany is No 1 in Europe..
Yeah I’m gunna have to see more teams soon!
@@FootyAdventures Being into German Football for over 30 years and, like you, with a liking of smaller sides (2nd to 4th tier), I can recommend checking out:
Greuther Fürth, 1860 Munich, Saarbrücken, Lübeck, Essen, Chemie Leipzig and Lok Leipzig (the "original" Leipzig clubs in opposition to the "company" RB Leipzig), Zwickau, Aachen, Stuttgarter Kickers..
I didn't include the spectacular 2nd tier sides Kaiserslautern and Karlsruhe or 3rd tier side Dresden, as they aren't actually "small" clubs, but of course they're totally worth a visit!
Duisburg hosted Champions league quarter final in that Covid champions league year, that bayern won. And they are in 3.liga!
@@espben360 ..it was the Europa League. The Champions League was hosted in Portugal. Also, it was just about the stadium facilities etc. MSV Duisburg and it's stadium are not very interesting whatsoever.. pretty boring club and random stadium..

Unterhaching spent two seasons in the Bundesliga at the turn of the century before dropping back down the divisions. Good to see them on the way back up, and loved the ground.
Yeah, the clickbait title of the video is a bit presumptuous to think no potential viewers will have heard of Unterhaching. Some of us are older (and dare I say, less ignorant) than the owner of this channel.
@@oliverraven Think that’s a little harsh there.
Sam’s not ignorant, he puts together a lot of great content and sometimes he’s going to miss things like we all do.
Sam does indeed generate a lot of content, much of it good to great. If he wasn't ignorant in this instance then he was assuming his audience would be which is kind of insulting. No excuse for a European to be missing Unterhaching's top-flight run unless they were in a coma at the turn of the millennium or don't actually like football.
@@oliverravenmost of his audience probably won’t have heard of them. Either too young, not from Germany (mostly UK, Ireland and also US) or don’t follow German football outside of bayern, dortmund, and champions league
Loved the video, loved that you enjoyed your visit at our "Sportpark" - Groundhoppers a always very warmly welcomed in Unterhaching :)
The German Cup (DFB-Pokal) is a great tournament, especially in the first rounds there are sensations guaranteed! Up to the 4th league the home teams have a chance… traditionally the lower leagues already played two or more match days, they are in perfect shape and form, but the Bundesliga teams start the league one week after the cup which is their first match… this fact and the home stadium are advantages for the smaller teams. Love the DFB-Pokal! 👍
Indeed, Unterhaching also has a big youth academy. Karim Adeyemi who is now playing at Dortmund and who will eventually change to an even bigger club like Barca or Real played in Unterhaching‘s youth academy since age class U19.
Right now, there is another young player who will also be playing Bundesliga in a few year probably - Maurice Krattenmacher. He just turned 18 and already plays in the first team.
You can visit so many Clubs and grounds from 2nd tier to 5th in germany, always amazing.
No one needs the Champions League or the big shit clubs.
So you don’t really like football just beer, being drunk and shouting the same boring chants over and over again?
@@davinnicode obviously you werent ever on a low league game in germany. Its completely different how you describe it.
This was great! Thanks for coming to Unterhaching. I have watched a few of your videos. I am English and as I live near Unterhaching I have adopted them as my German team. It’s a shame Unterhaching don‘t many fans for the standard league games. Maybe 3000 on average for 3 Liga. Of course Bayern and 1860 take the majority of the fans in the Munich area. Anyway. I like going to watch Unterhaching and then go into the Biergarten after a game. Yesterday we ended up chatting with some Augsburg fans. Very civilised! 🍺 🍺🍺
As a Scots Season ticket holder of Unterhaching back in early 2000s I certainly have heard of them😂
I was there yesterday! What a great match and atmosphere! So nice to see that you watched this one too! 👏👏
Würzburger Kickers und der FCA ❤💚😎
Sam, you have an uncanny knack of watching giant killing in cup competitions. A football match in Germany looks like a good day out.

The first is one, is definitely fan base linked the much better one. Unfortunately, in Nuremberg a the stadium is a ground with an athletic track, but still very unique and big. And two ultra and fan scenes that definitely belong to the top ones in Germany.

Although you left out 2 important facts: Leverkusen and Michael Ballack 😁 you should also try to go to an 1860 Match to conclude the trilogy 😊
I was sitting on the other side at the main stand. I am Haching Fan since more than ten years and the atmosphere was brilliant. I am really happy that you enjoyed the match and the club is really cool! Forza Unterhaching!❤💙

It was so emberrasing as Augsburg Fan to see the Team play.
As a Scottish-German myself, your videos are very much hitting the mark for me! Lovely stuff.
They fire guns while announcing players, playabout with whips at half-time and then beat a team 2 leagues above them.
Karin Adeyemi and Florian Niederlechner would be proud!
What an atmosphere !!!!
Worked in Bavaria for a few years although i live in Berlin. Also watched Unterhaching a few times, and they have always been the little club in the local area. They usually only have between 2 and 4000 for home games, so this cup run will be very good for them financially, as it was a monster act for them to finance the 3rd tier of german football. Also watched Augsburg a few times, even as they were in the Regionaliga Bayern, before their rise to the Bundesliga. Their aim every season is to avoid relegation, so although this cup defeat will hurt, they can now concentrate fully on the league. Great that you managed to get to those 2 games in a short space of time. Can get very hot there this time of the year. Also, in winter very cold...

When you are next in England how about coming right down South to Hampshire to see some footy. I am sure over a weekend you could take in a few games in this area. You must visit my team 'AFC Totton', we play in the Southern League Premier South. We are 5 miles from Southampton 40 miles from Portsmouth, 35 miles from Bournemouth, we have two National league sides in Hampshire, Aldershot Town (North Hampshire) and Eastleigh (Just North East of Southampton), not to mention a number of other sides also at our level such as Sholing (in Southampton), Gosport Borough (near Portsmouth), Winchester City (12 miles north of Southampton), Basingstoke Town (They are in North Hampshire about 40 miles from Southampton). Plenty of clubs you could visit.

The format of the DFB Pokal is just great! Every club starts in 1st round and the big teams always have to play away. There are always big upsets in 1st round because of that.
Also if you want to check out clubs in 3rd or even 4th division in germany.. I can recommend Dynamo Dresden, 1.FC Saarbrücken, Preußen Münster (from 3rd League) or Stuttgarter Kickers (Regional league south west) , Alemannia Aachen (regional league west) from 4th tier , they have good fans / fanbase even if they play in "lower" divisions. You could also watch matches in regional league east (4th league as well) there are some clubs with big fanbase as well. Many clubs played in 1st or at least 2nd tier in past.. like Energie Cottbus, Rot Weiß Erfurt, Carl Zeiss Jena..or Lokomotive Leipzig & Chemie Leipzig.
If you want to see a match in 1st or 2nd tier, come to Hamburg! Always good support! 💪🏽 Nur der HSV ⚫⚪🔵
I went to this ground when they played Dusseldorf in the Pokal it was amazing.

Frankfurt -Aberdeen in the Conference League should be a great atmosphere. If you have the chance, you should definitely go!
It’s great watch Sam frequent Germany and frequent beers during a match. Loved this
Go check out Preussen Münster if you can. They just got promoted to the third tier as well and are a founding member of the Bundesliga. Next weekend big DERBY away at Bielefeld if you manage to get there. There should be a great atmosphere. But of course, a home game would be sick too.
They also drew Bayern in the Pokal👀
Preussen is a great day out if you’re visiting Muenster. Avoid taking too many beers if you go by bike.
We also have this kind of culture see Mohan bagan AC has both football club and cricket and there few more of them . Come to India bro
they should go all the way through to the final
We hope so :3 but being relastic maybe 3 round if we get a "good" opponement and not bayern or so

You have to visit Saarbrücken, they have a rich history and won against AC Milan, Monaco and other great teams back in the 50s and the legend says because of them the now Champions League started existing. They now play in the 3rd divison and i think 3 years ago, when they still played in the 4th divison they reached the DFB Pokal semi-finals! They nearly reached second divison last year, but Osnabrück scored 2 goals in +13mins aftertime..
The guy from behind when you got the third goal is clearly dissapointed! LOL.
Good mix of matches Super Pokal and DFB Pokal first round 3.Liga v Bundesliga.
Have you seen the wonderkid Maurice Krattenmacher, mate?
Sam, if you want a good explanation of the letters and numbers in official German football club names, get hold of a copy of Uli Hesse-Lichtenberger's book "Tor! The Story of German Football". I didn't realise SpVgg had fallen so far; I remember when they were in the top flight.
Great Game!

You know, I've just been reading about the early years of football, in Scotland and England, and some of the pioneers of the professional game in the 1880s and 1890s - at one point, the author mentions the England team taking trips abroad to try and grow the popularity of the game on the continent. One trip to Germany featured the English pros battering the German amateurs...and the English amateurs humiliating them even more. The book was written in 1905, and the author wondered what might happen when everyone else caught the bug. Whatever he had in mind, this would've been far, far beyond even his wildest dreams. 'By Jove, have you been chopping onions again?!'
A similar thing happened in Brazil.

Your followers aren't limited to the UK. I'm an American, and love watching these videos because we really don't have this atmosphere, especially at lower level leagues About the closest thing to the atmosphere would be High School football in Texas, Ohio, and a few other states.
Nice to see these excursions to other countries. The German team I follow is VfL Bochum - but it is GREAT to see lower league football in other countries, the passion, the soccer culture, etc Hope you do more similar types of videos (as long as you keep up with the UK lower leagues as well) An American of German, Irish, and English ancestry.
why would you follow bochum as an american? 😂
@@XxXyzxX Why? You think everyone has to be either a Bayern Munich or a Dortmund fan?
@@billsager5634 it's just very random if you're not from here 😂
@@XxXyzxX - 1. Grew up a NY Cosmos fan, but when the NASL disbanded in 1984, I had no team. Other than the World Cup, unless you played soccer yourself, or were an immigrant, very little options for soccer. Besides, baseball was always my #1 sport. Loosely followed Celtic, because I grew up in a Scot/Irish neighborhood.
2. As mentioned, Baseball was my #1 sport After my playing career ended, I played in Fantasy/Rotisserie Baseball leagues for many years. In one of those leagues, I became friends with an Englishman who played fantasy baseball to learn about baseball. I asked him if he knew about anything similar for soccer. He hooked me on Football Manager/Championship Manager, where I first found Weymouth FC -a lower league English team (6th tier), and I have been a Weymouth fan ever since.
3. When my son was maybe 6 years old, he was already playing club soccer, and I bought him his first PS FIFA game. The game had a career mode, and he created his player and wanted me to create a player as well. I created a player, and chose Celtic (Weymouth not available, as FIFA only went as low as League 2). Before my character ever played a game, Celtic loaned my player to VfL Bochum, in Bundesliga 2.
So I played a season at Bochum, with my son, and guided Bochum to promotion. It was fun learning about players like Marcel Maltritz, Andreas Luthe, Patrick Fabian, Christoph Kramer, etc., so I started to research and learn about the real team, and following the real team as well - as best as possible. Been following Bochum ever since.
More fun - my son became a Dortmund fan, with Marco Reus his favorite player.
@@billsager5634 haha, that's a nice story. Maybe you can watch Bochum play some time on vacation. Well, finding that atmosphere of two relatively limited fanbases brilliant you somewhat prove my personal experiences of football matches in the UK: just dull (sadly even Liverpool).
In Germany, there is constant singing throughout the game and tifos and pyros are a common occurence.
But no offense. It's just that in the UK horrible decisions with regards to pricing have been made long time ago. It's only the well behaved upper middle class attending matches these days...and we know where this ends up.
