@@mksmike They did do research. Fight scenes were choreographed with Japanese samurai techniques as the basis. Lorewise, Form I matches what you seek. But those are pre-existing techniques directly applied on the very first lightsabers. The Form is archaic, learnt solely for tradition and historical reasons and never used in practice. Form II onwards are all evolved specifically for the lightsaber, and not backward-compatible with traditional swords: They're techniques for directing a current of energy capable of cutting in all directions, and not for swinging a dual-edged blade of solid metal. These are the techniques you see in the Republic era movies and shows (rarely seen in the Imperial and post-Imperial era movies and shows because few Jedi remain to pass down this knowledge). It's intentional that you don't see much of the conventional techniques used on Earth. While ordinary people can learn these lightsaber-specific Forms, they cannot bring out their full potential: the inability of their reflexes and hand-eye coordination to keep up, and the need to maintain adequate guard and caution to not cut themselves hold them back. Enhanced senses - be it via the Force or via cybernetics like those given to Grievous - allow moves to be carried out at full speed, and "safety margins" can be reduced.
