- The counter top that I am going to repair is over 25 years old. In this video I'm going to show you a method of counter top repair by filling the seams with caulk. It's not going to last forever, but what repair does. This repair then becomes a maintenance item.

I just love these bandaid fixes before you sell a house....
Awesome 👌 video! I. Just did mines!!! Looks amazing
It has to look better than it used too. And you can touch it up anytime you need too!
toothpicks worked for me!
You should get some white paint in the seam before you fill it with caulk. It’s easier to hide a white line than a dark one
Hi Joe, would this type of seal protect new laminate countertops from water damage if the joint is close to the kitchen sink? Because of the weird layout of my kitchen, I would need two separate pieces of laminate countertop. My contractor is suggesting custom quartz countertops but I’m too broke! Haha!
if you are gluing the pieces, try an exterior glue. and you can put a small 1/8 inch bead of silicone caulk all along the top edge of the counter top seam.
still looks like crap.
Thank you Joe! Rad
I guess it is quite off topic but do anybody know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Weston Jaxx flixportal :)
@Tristan Kason thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D I really appreciate it!!
@Weston Jaxx Happy to help =)
what grout for darker laminate?
You can use caulk or paint. I've used gray paint on a gray counter top
Here is the link to my video on hiding laminate seams with paint. czcams.com/video/z8xs9owUlFg/video.html
Just find a color that is close. Remember paint dries darker.
will the cault hold up if the countertop is painted??
should. give it a try. It works on walls and trim.
Is that acrylic or silicone caulk?
acrylic
What if your seam is warped a bit from some water damage? One side is higher/swollen up than the other.
There isnt much you can do with that. The damage is done.
@@Doityourselfwithjoe Ok, thank you!
Is only one option,
Replace it.
Then when you cut hole like for sink - all below laminate needs to be done with waterproof glue or silicone. Then is protected. That's good advice for the job next time.
@@Doityourselfwithjoe What about scraping away some water damaged wood under the lifted side then gluing and C-clamping the laminate itself to bring it down to the level of the other seam edge? Worth a try?
This is a no no, caulk shrinks
I doesn't really matter. The top is not in great shape. It's just to make it look better for a while. No matter what you use on a counter this old, its not going to last.
What about if my countertop is pink ?
Use white or maybe use some dye o chalk
replace it
Go get the correct stuff which comes in many colors to be mixed to get the correct color.
It won't peal out with time like the caulking WILL
What about seems that have bowed up?
If the seams are bowed up it's probably delamination or water has gotten into the seam. If water has entered the seam then the wood is swelled and there is nothing you can do. If the laminate is delaminating then you can re glue it.
it seems like there is absolutely no need for masking tape
Crappy job. Looks bad. Won't hold up. Was hoping for an actual solution.
The only solution I know of is getting new counter tops. This is only a way to clean things up and make it look better, it will need to be repeated again when they start looking bad.
