    Instead of knocking off those clamp blocks and then chiseling away what remains, consider that isopropyl alcohol gets underneath hot-glue like magic.

    Use a razor blade to check level or run the mixing tip side to side to check. Finger is a no no ... I use the aggressive dynabrade dual action sander to knock down the seam. Fast. Then. Switch over to random orbital

    the "use your finger to make sure that the material is leveled" i wouldn't recommend that, if you have any dirt on your fingers it wil appear in your adhesive (for this type it wont be able to spot easily, but if you use white solid surface you can easly spot any dirt in the adhesive)

    I canNOT believe this guy is orbital sanding solid surface and not even wearing a mask. Beyond stupid risk to his lungs.

    I enjoyed the video, thanks! I’ve seen a lot of videos about repair, and this one’s great! I am trying to figure out how to cleanly separate corian countertops at the seems. What do yuh recommend?

    How many times has your hot melt blocks popped on you when it's half dry? I only use bar clamps and the pinske edge cups for seaming.

      I never do drop edge I always use full 2.25" × 1" to make it 1.5" thick. Then I use 1" particle board for support braces and I always plate the seams.

      Yessir, I have used super glue before and it works, I would recommend the gorila glue but not the liquid use the gel instead.

    What about a mask of some sort. I have heard that that dust is toxic??

    • @realism51
      @realism51 Před 5 lety +2

      You have no idea. MIlling and working with Corian aka acrylic solid surface material can and will cause you irreparable harm. You are breathing in tiny particles of plastic that is going to scratch adn scar up your lungs (there are several deaths attributed to SSM (solid surface material) notably corian PULMONARY FIBROSIS).
      And then sanding and cutting it releases a gas that is essentially butane, so it is also flammable at that stage, that acrid odor isnt just acrylic it is gas.
      Even the SSM manufacturers SOP and Hazard warnings state to always use proper breathing apparatus and venting, DO NOT do this in a closed environment or you will shorten your life span dramatically.
      FOr all those who doubt me, go spend a day milling and sanding without a mask, then go try and run a mile or get a good hard laugh in, you will think you are dying.

      @@realism51 my work gave me a crap mask that was suppose to last like a week i ended up having to use it for 6 months before i had enough and just bought a proper one

      @@hillgilly88 I hear you. The shop I work for would only buy the N95 (paper mask) type, and then they bought this easy breath one that the shop manager was told was good, but it was still an N95. Went round after round with the guy and finally convinced him to get better masks and cartridges for us (I've been using my personal one cuz I've been in the business for so long), but he kept ordering the ones made for paint fumes (ie. the open cotton 3M ones). Took me slamming down the MSDS, a message from Dupont on recommended equipment, and a practical usage of the crappy paint one, to show that it gets clogged and doesnt protect from the particulates, only the fumes. Useful material, but man is it harsh on your body. Never had a problem with eczema before, but now it dries out my skin and makes it look like crap when we work it heavily. pro-tip lots of moisturizer. Sucks that it blocks up your pores, which is terrible considering where I work at in Idaho we see temps of about 100 during the summer and the shop is not cooled, so it stays about 10 degrees cooler than the outside temp during the summer. No ability to sweat while working with it, makes it a nightmare day.

      @@realism51 I'm not going to say you're wrong because I'm sure any kind of dust is bad for your lungs but I been a solid surface fabricator for 21 years already I don't use a mask and we can play a soccer game any day you want , I'm not saying I'm good at soccer but I'm pretty sure I can run 😁😁.

      Eat dairy, drink milk, eat jalapenos, and stay hydrated with natural spring water, and west a NIOSH mask and swimming goggles to donkeys completely seal it the dust, also get a fan in box with two furnace filters to suck the dust through a filter to trap Isidore's and direct airborne particles away from work space, also vacuum systems with a grounding conductor running asking the vacuum lines to keep static electricity grounded down

    • @realism51
      @realism51 Před 5 lety

      its not hot glue, its a special glue used only for solid surface, fyi dont get it on yourself or clothing, it will not come out. and skin contact takes a lot
