The BITE that almost KILLED our hired hand - Montana Rattlesnake

  • Brad (Wiggles) has been driving truck and tractor for us for the past 3 years and we've been blessed by his work ethic and attention to detail. Brad loves the outdoors and especially hunting rattle snakes but this time it nearly killed him. Turns out Brad is extremely allergic to venom. The story speaks for itself!

Yes, I agree. He told his story with a self-deprecating sense of humor that made it that much more enjoyable. No attitude, just matter of fact, but in a joking or funny manner. Really nice guy! I'm so happy he's on his way to a full recovery. As bad as getting bit by a rattler is, thank God he was not alone and was able to get to the ER in time, especially in light of the fact that he went into anaphylactic shock. At least now he's aware of his allergy and carries an EpiPen with him just in case of a snake or possibly even an insect bite. God bless!

The most venomous snake in the world is the inland taipan, it is also the most toxic of any reptile venom. The western rattlesnake which is native to Montana is not even in the top 10 of venomous snakes. The inland taipan usually kills is victims within 45 minutes and one envenomation releases enough venom to kill 100 people.
I was envenomated by a Mojave green rattlesnake when I was a teenager, I was airlifted to Loma Linda University medical center and treated by the famous doctor Sean Bush who had the tv show Venom ER.

By the Grace of God! Brad, my brother in law got hit on his ankle by a diamondback when he was 12. He has scars but he wasn't allergic. But he became a snake hunter, in California, they paid him $ 300.00 per full size adult rattler for producing antivenin. For about 2 years he was making bank, then they dropped the bounty to $75.00 per 5 snakes. He still catches when he can, but he says it's no fun and too risky at his age. Glad to see you're doing well!

This video gave me the willies. I am 74 and when I was 6, I was bitten on my right foot by a timber rattlesnake. Ran into the house and told my dad I was bitten. He said I have told you to not joke about that. I said no, look at my foot. He jumped up, told mom to start using suction on the bite, went out and killed the snake. I remember passing out on the way to the hospital. As the venom goes thru your system it is a tingling feeling, like when your leg goes to sleep. Felt this feeling in my mouth, ears and everywhere else. Don’t remember how long I was in the hospital but do remember my leg was swollen, black and blue up to my hip and foot looked by Brad’s lack thumb. Unlike Brad, had a grenade go off under me in Vietnam so have cheated death twice.

As frightening as snakes can be, every creature has its purpose in the world. Snakes really help keep the rodent population in check which, in turn, saves lots of food crops that we depend on. I'm happy Brad is saving these snakes and relocating them away from humans. Snakes are not inherently evil and their sole purpose in life is not to bite humans. Snakes will almost always try to get away from people unless they're cornered and there's no escape route. Rescuing and relocating snakes is a humane act of kindness and is important in conservation of the planet and its animals. Kudos to those people who do this.

My then 5 year old grand daughter was lucky with her ordeal. Her dad was having a birthday party for her brother when a small rattle snake got her big toe when walking just off the back porch. The fang just into her toe nail. She stayed in the hospital for 3 days and never had to take the anti venom. She is now very wary of snakes 2 years later. I bought the CRP section across the road and putting in a crop so maybe less rattlers in the future.

Great story you now have, Brad. After THE bite, you just could not "wiggle" your way out of that one. 😁😊

Glad you are okay Brad. I hope you have decent medical insurance. I saw a guy post his hospital bill a while back for 153 000 $. Rattlesnake bite and spent 3 days in hospital.

@@paulcopeland9035 you caught me, I made this comment before finishing the video. After the video is over, we are still unsure if the insurance will pay for Brad's treatment, as he only mentions that he hopes so and that they do have good insurance, so I remain hopeful that they would pay and thus couldn't be arsed to change my comment.
      Have a nice day

Angel was with you Brad! Glad you made it. Had a cousin that lost two fingers after a bite. May Jesus just continue to touch your thumb and heal it back to normal. Be safe on future hunts.
