The Strange Case of Chris Watts ( A True Crime )

    A documentary providing an overview of the psychological dynamics before and after the events of August 13th 2018 involving Chris Watts and the murders of his wife Shanann Watts, daughters Bella and Celeste and unborn son Nico.
    The majority of the music was primarily from these two amazing artists and the rest of the music was composed by myself ( unfortunately I had to sometimes edit/butcher the compositions which I had to do to make them work for some scenes ).
    Ross Bugden - / @rossbugden
    The opening sequence is from 'Olympus' • ♩♫ Epic and Dramatic T...
    Whitesand - / @whitesandcomposer
    The ending theme is called 'Memory' • ♩♫ Epic and Dramatic T...
    The rest of the music in the video are my original compositions.
    This documentary actually just started out as my attempt at cleaning up the sound from Chris Watts' prison interview because the original sound wasn't the best. It got out of hand obviously as I thought some more frame of reference was necessary. Then it just became an idea to put everything I could find in chronological order to lay it out as one event from beginning to end. Before I knew it, I was making a documentary of sorts. As I began working on it I found I had to add more dimension to it and it became a monumental undertaking over ten weeks. Thank God that my wife, as a professional youtuber, was so understanding of this and told the kids to leave dad alone for a few hours a day.
    I created it with a singular focus, made mainly for myself and I didn't really know who, if anyone, would end up watching it. I'm really surprised and glad that so many people appreciate the end result of that effort.
    It was my sixteen year old son who originally introduced me to the Watts' case and at first I didn't really want to hear about it because any murder involving children is not something I want to hear about or dwell on. I came into this case sideways hearing speculations and got drawn in in spite of myself. The mysteries surrounding it really caught my attention and that was all I needed. The motivation to make this was also from a disgust I have for slanted opinion pieces that I see far too much of these days. To see true balanced, fair views involves elevating yourself instead of merely slinging mud in the eye at anyone from a personal reaction or a sense of self protection. I wanted to rise above it and look at this case as objectively as possible and maybe if it resonated as true to me it may resonate with others. I certainly don't know the truth to this case but I know I haven't seen it yet.
    My channel was always just a repository for very short, often silly ideas and a few things I'd taken an interest in in my spare time to upload. I don't know when I'll be inspired to do this again but if I do I won't make as many mistakes. I'm driven by enthusiasm and it usually comes from, humour, music, art, scientific research, philosophy, psychology, mythology, theology, a fascination and love for humanity, nature and truth. It seems to be my Modus Operandi.

    Everyone has a theory of why. My thoughts are this. He was incredibly calm and normal, and even continued working at the site that morning. Knowing his daughters were floating in those tanks. Everyone said he seemed very normal. This is someone who did not feel anything. When a loved pet dies, you grieve. Not only did he kill his wife, but his own little girls. And didn’t get upset or shed a tear. To be able to do that, people are transactional to him and he has no real feelings. In older videos, he’s overweight, quiet, awkward. Maybe he feared ending up living alone in mom’s basement. Along comes Shanann. She’s pretty and takes charge and all he really has to do is go along to get along. In his mind, it was beyond the sad life he was afraid of. He was now a husband and father. But not out of love, out of a feeling of achievement. Like moving up in your job. Then he met a woman who was attracted to him first and actively pursued him. This was a new level of achievement for him. He was now attractive and desirable to women other than Shanann. This meant he had options that he didn’t have before and Shannan and the kids became the old car you’ve been driving when suddenly you come into money and that shiny new car you never thought was an option, suddenly is. It’s all transactional. No feelings. For anyone. Other than feeling good about himself. Why kill? Because he didn’t want to hear one more word. He didn’t want one more letter. Not one more text. Not one more book. He wanted it all to end that second. All of it. I think it’s as simple as that.

    The scariest part to me is how loving of a dad he seemed to be. How in love he seemed to be with his bride on their wedding day. How gentle he appears to be.

    i think your characterization at the end of him lacking integrity is completely correct. He was a man that seemed to just go through the motions for years lacking a true compass. In doing so, he began building resentment towards his wife, mom, kids etc.. Then the mistress comes along and either wittingly or not provides the spark for his lashing out. I think its significant that he strangled her in that he wasn't strong enough to use his words to debate her which led to her getting her way, so he simply took away her physical ability to say anything at all as an act of complete and total exacerbation.

      It's a "power" related crime, as it was the power regions (neck) he attacked, when he took their lives away.
      He choked off their ability to breathe.
      When meant to be protecting.
      Anger, rage, lust, and all the "playing at the cool, good actively inputting daddy", which every one knows, likes and loves and trusts because , it's what they got from social media uploads, and Facebook friendship marriages.
      It's a brilliant example of how much people can delude themselves, and those around them, that their own grass is always greener.
      True power comes with the knowledge that is never actually the case, because then the power remains on the foundation of being, settled and already content within one's own means in life. Not another's "expectations" of how that should be.

      Well yeah though we don't really know. We are not law enforcement. I do have suspicions but mine came from reading her interview transcripts, reports and someone has found out about that truck that was there in the neighbor's video. Yeah she is suspect but the law states innocent until proven guilty. No good harrassing her or pointing fingers, it's not up to us. The law will have looked hard into her. Like I say I personally suspect her but I would know to leave her well alone. Sooner or later the real truth may emerge (hopefully). But until then we just don't know. Honestly I mean I could be wrong.
      How can we judge or hate others? One day we may be the one villified. One day we may be someone people point the finger at. Judging us without due process?
      I'm no expert and we should leave it to the experts.

So Shanann excluded them all, including her niece and nephew, from the wedding. Shanann was horrible to Chris’s family. And it all started when Shanann purposely lied to Cindy and told her she was 40 just to get a reaction out of her. That’s not normal!

He was NOT the best thing that ever happened to her. And to all mother in laws: the Bible clearly says Leave your mother and father and cleave to your wife. Let your son go. • @moreofawave
      @moreofawave Před 5 lety +9

      @M Z I am not sure your assessment is correct because Chris, towards the end, was acting like any typical guy who is having an affair: Distancing himself. Being selfish. Rejecting their partner. Those are not necessarily exclusively 'narcissists' (although may be 'narcissistic traits', there is a difference). I honestly don't think Shannan would have saved herself or the kids with the knowledge of how 'narcissists' behave, in this situation. What I do think may or may not have saved her is recognizing the dynamic between Chris and his parents, and the relationship between Chris' parents themselves (as a couple-his dad was also passive and his mom seemed the dominant one,just like Shannan was with Chris) and then she would have realized that the way their relationship played out could have deter-mental consequences of some sort (although predicting this carnage would have been a far stretch). My theory on this is too involved and not interested in typing it all out but the labeling of 'narcissist' is not really helping prevent anything in this context, at least in my opinion. Because Chris did not act like a 'narcissist' in the entirety of this relationship so how was Shannan supposed to have gotten a clue? I think Chris described a rage in the end and I think it came from his many years of feeling not in control. Sadly, this was his poorly managed way (to put it mildly) of finally getting control of his life in the end, at the expense of his family.

    • @kanealson5200
      @kanealson5200  Před 5 lety +2

      That's a very well thought out theory moreofawave. It's a tricky one because it can always be interpreted as victim blaming or criticizing the dead with the blame not squarely on Chris. However I wouldn't avoid looking at all aspects of the psychological dynamics because to understand them accurately would actually help to avoid this sort of tragedy. Chris in the end does have the burden on him because of his actions, deception or admission of actions. Whatever the situation he felt he was in, better choices could have avoided the eventual outcome. I do think if Chris was just a cold-blooded plotting murderer he would have done more victim blaming himself which he never exhibited. Trying to justify horrible actions would have been a tell-tale sign.

    • @moreofawave
      @moreofawave Před 5 lety +1

      @@kanealson5200 Thanks. I agree. I wish people wouldn't take 'understanding the dynamic' as victim blaming; I know that is what happens, but I wish we could look at things more objectively even when facing tragedies. For me, looking at the dynamics involved in all the relationships (those of Chris and Shannon, Chris with his parents and those of his parents, as a couple) makes more sense because that is a way to deconstruct what went wrong. I do understand why he is labeled narcissist. In the end narcissists sabotage themselves because they go about getting what they want in nefarious ways (in one way or another). Perhaps he is both a narcissist and a passive aggressive man who lost it in the end and whose every choice after killing his wife made less sense than the next? Who really knows.

      What a thought provoking article! And bring up a clearer picture!! Puts Chris in a VERY different light... I will never understand the murder, but I do understand the point of no return in a relationship that, once crossed, there IS no reeling one back in.
      After years of mental and verbal abuse by my ex, and for months me building up courage to leave... one quiet day at home, painting walls and my ex starting up again with the abuse everything suddenly switched. I announced I'm done and leaving... and NO AMOUNT of change or pleading or bribing brought me back. All feelings left me. I NEEDED to stay in that "cold pit" to carry out the exit plan.
      Its years later that I think back and see how everything could have been done differently...but back then, it was final.
      No one was murdered. Just a long relationship ended... but the damage is definitely lasting.
      I understand how he was chipped away, comments by comment... and finally running into someone who showed him how to actually love by being himself... perfect and in this case tragic storm.
      I'm truly sorry for all involved :(

Lots of lies... missing items.... blurry video... cut out video.... coincidence.., I’ve seen several crazy things myself that left me not wanting to talk about it again..... and lots of holograms in faces..... many stories don’t add up. Not Chris n his bs ... weld county and other things.
      Social experiment? Idk but if it is ... I’m at a loss for words and sad!

      @Marcela Alvarez CK didn't know how to behave socially, he just guessed that's what he should do when he saw the cop. That's why he was always in the background and didn't say a lot to anyone. He didn't know how to be normal he kept quiet so he wouldn't be found be found out.

    The thing that amazes me the most about these cases is that the killer thinks that the victim's family and friends are just going to accept the half baked notion that the victims just, you know, "disappeared forever". As if people close to the victims would ever fall for or believe that.
    Did Chris actually think that no one would notice that the victims were gone?
    As the saying goes, the prisons are full of dumb criminals.

    Its strange because we rarely see someone with zero emotion. A true psycopath that needs people to fill the empty space in their personality. Look at how cool he is after such horror. Only fearful about getting caught and the shame he will feel as a result. Shame for himself is his only emotion.

    Great upload. It amazes me that with all of the technology out there today, (GPS on his work truck, etc.,) that people think that they can do something like this and get away with it. Did he think Shanaan's family would just accept that her and the kids simply disappeared and were never heard from again?

      No Which is one of the glaring reasons why I think he wasn't in his right mind. People create these elaborate schemes that didnt quite happen and give the reason why they didnt happen as Chris not being quite as clever as they are. That makes as much sense as calling the police and telling them that someone broke in to your house, rearranged all your furniture and then put it back exactly where it was.
