    Why dont they have DL'S running that line? Good testing grounds for them.

      It would be, but they don't fit through most of the tunnels on the line between Arthurs Pass and Christchurch.

      @@Emmanuel4334 1. DL's are only in the North Island.
      2. We have DX's from the North Island, DLs replacing DXs.
      3. DXC locomotives have a special vent(s) equipped to travel in the Otira Tunnel, an 8.5km long tunnel. These vents circulate air through improving air quality in the tunnel.
