  • A first look at the Antonov AN-2 in Microsoft Flight Simulator - starting the aircraft from "cold and dark" on the ground at Wycombe Air Park, and working our way around the cockpit to get it fired up.

    Very unique aircraft. I was able to sit in the cockpit of an AN-2 many years ago in New Jersey. I remember thinking the cockpit window design was strange. It felt like I was sitting in a WW2 bomber. I remember being surprised that I could fully stand up in the cabin. I'm 5'10" tall, so ceiling is at least 6'. I also remember the hammer and sickle markings painted on the fuselage. :)

    @mkrsek1 Před 10 měsíci +2

    By POH, AN-2 actually doesn't have stall speed at all:
    "If the engine quits in instrument conditions or at night, the pilot should pull the control column full aft and keep the wings level. The leading-edge slats will snap out at about 64 km/h (40 mph) and when the airplane slows to a forward speed of about 40 km/h (25 mph), the airplane will sink at about a parachute descent rate until the aircraft hits the ground."
    I imagene, it would still be damaged (at least gear, prop, possibly full loss) but still. Btw, in strong headwind, this plane can actually reverse in flight and still be fully under controll :)

    Just finished my first short flight. Beautiful Bird!!! I have two tipps for anyone flying this bird:
    1. Turn the tooltips on. They‘re in english and help a lot when learning what switch does what.
    2. Dont turn off the pneumatic system (turning knob to the bottom left of the pilot seat) as it is used to supply the brakes with pneumatic pressure (learned this the hard way.
    Thanks for the great video, wouldn‘t have been able to start her up without it

Seen them buzzing around in the air a lot growing up when pilots were spraying agricultural fertilizers, pesticides or just mosquito repellent. These planes are super agile, the pilots were just throwing them around like stunt planes.

    Even the FSX-SE version is one of the most outstanding add-on I've ever see/flown, and I've been around flight simulation for quite some time (+- 20 years - from the very beginning) and quite some hundreds of add-on also. I've owned the earlier Sibwings model, but ATs has done a remarkable job, after they took over Sibwings.

It's hard to make it sink very quickly with the throttle chopped out and nose up, so you really gotta make sure you're set up well on your approach, or its easy to be too fast and/or too high. It literally won't stall though.

    Outstanding explanation as always!
    One thing to add
    Ive read that on the AN2 manual that there is not stall speed.
    If there’s engine failure, Pilots simply feather the prop, lower flaps to 40 degrees, and the plane will descend much like a parachute till it lands
    That plane might be big and slow but it can glide long distances without stalling it
