  • When the Hillman Avenger Tiger first broke cover on the 1973 Donegal Rally, the Rootes Group announced its arrival on the rally stages in a flash of bright colours, stripes and spoilers.
The Avenger would only be the start of the story though. If the company wanted to challenge Ford for rally supremacy, it needed the Avenger to evolve into something even more fiery.
The Talbot Lotus Sunbeam had a job to do, and with some of the biggest names in rallying emblazoned on the front wings, it really meant business!
Join ‪@Sarah-CrabbersCrabtree‬ and Paul Woodford for a blast from the past, as they chart one of British rallying’s most astonishing fairytales from behind the wheel of a Chrysler Avenger.
Series 3 of the Great British Car Share tells the stories of some of the most iconic rally car heroes that have ever driven our roads.
    ‘Rally Heroes’ starts here! 📺
[Thanks to ‪@SpecialStage‬ for the rally footage]

As well as being a rally car, Bernard Unett won the British Saloon Car Championship (now the BTCC) 3 times in 1974, 1976 & 1977, in an Avenger 🙂👍

My dad had an ex Police Hillman Avenger in in blue, with red vinyl seats.
I loved that car with it's hockey stick tail lights.

Great video as always, but could I make one, sorry two complaints, one stop doing the American thing if having the backing music so load that I have to turn on subtitles (I wear two hearing aids) & that they didn’t drive a sunbeam rally car 😕

PSA (Peugeot Citroën) bought Chrysler UK, Chrysler France (=Simca) and Chrysler Spain. they gave the name "Talbot" for these 3 things (not for the famous Lord John Talbot, 1 st Earl of Shewsbury, dead in 1453, near Bordeaux)
Psa closed Linwood factory, in Scotland, where Sunbeam cars were made.
In France, they killed Simca and the Poissy factory made only Peugeot cars and no Simca cars any more.
They closed also the factory in Spain.
So PSA bought these factories to do nothing at all with it. Just for the pleasure to throw money away ! Shameful ! Silly pigs !
(ps : sorry for my english, I am french)

Obviously don’t know what the shift quality is like in that particular Avenger, but in general Avenger’s had great transmissions, as did most Rootes products.
