There should be a 4 cyl LEGENDS series next. Go into detail about those SR20's, Honda B, K, and F series, 4G63, the screaming 4A-GE, and don't forget the boxers!

I personally don't enjoy the sound of most 4cyl engines. Honda engines ALL sound terrible and I often want to follow these straight piped Civics to their grocery store parking lot meetup and ask them "Do you genuinely believe your car sounds good?".
That being said, some sound amazing. 2.0TSI sounds amazing, the Nisan SR20, the 4G63 and a few more.
But as well, why would I want a big V8 that gets 10mpg and only makes 350hp? When a few bolt-ons, a proper dyno tune and quality fuel in a Turbo-4 can do the same while still getting 30mpg+?

First car I ever had that I owned myself was a '92 Honda Accord EX. Great little car and I know for sure it's all metal construction saved me in a Tbone accident from my passenger side. Exhaust had holes and sounded like the worst trombone you ever heard. VTEC all day bb!
But! I grew up driving V6 and Northstar V8 Cadillacs. That much power that much weight always being put to the ground that I've never looked back.
My second car was the Northstar V8 powered Buick Lucerne CXS Super. Most ridiculous sleeper car I personally have ever seen.
My current car is a 2010 Ford Taurus SHO that I bought with 14,000 miles and am just about to hit 20k.
AWD and twin-turbo V6 don't know if I could ever go back to a four.
They're light tho. And that's definitely a world I miss some days lmao

I love all quick cars, but anyone who's driven a 2.0L 4-banger making 500 whp and a 6.2L V8 making 500 whp knows there's a huge practical difference in the way they drive. Around town for sure, but even just cruising on the highway. A giant hairdryer on a tiny engine generally turns your powerband into an on/off affair. Granted that can be part of the charm, but it's nice to not have to drive it like you stole it when you need to merge or pass someone from a slow speed. There's also a difference in reliability and durability once you start getting up there a bit in power. 500-600 whp from an LS3 or Coyote is nothing. You could get to the lower figure staying N/A or just go FI on ~10 lbs to hit 600 whp. On a 2.0L, you're probably looking at 35 lbs on E85 to hit 500 whp. And with all that extra boost comes increased potential for problems. There's a reason most enthusiasts go from tiny displacement 4-bangers to 6- and 8-cylinders as they get older and get more money. But you very rarely see people go from a V8 to a 4-banger unless it's for economic reasons.

The fact that my current Focus ST, 2 liter turbo 4 cyl, makes way more power then the 289CI, V8 in a '67 Mustang fastback I had shows just how far tech has moved the little 4 pot motor. That said I'd be surprised if the modern equivalent of that 289 isnt able to produce 400 HP, easy.

For five years, I drove a 2003 Mini Cooper S with a 6 speed on the daily and it was the most fun car I had ever owned or driven. Fast forward to today, after a brief period of owning an RX8, and now I'm driving a 2005 Mustang GT with a 5 speed. The Mini was nimble, quick, but not very fuel efficient at first (I managed to get it up to about 24 MPG after a year or so). The Mustang is powerful, loud, fun, but not very fuel efficient, either. I loved the 4 banger Mini, and I also love my roaring V8 Mustang.

Had a Lincoln Town car 2v 4.6 V8. Not fast but had an amazing exhaust setup with 2019 mustang wheels, looked incredible. Fast forward after being T-boned I now have a 2012 Mini Cooper S R57. You are correct with how mind-blowing these things are at handling. Nothing with a V8 could corner like a turbo mini, especially after performance upgrades.
People tend to forget 95% of turbo four cylinders are meant to be a drag car, They're nimble and quick at cornering. It's like comparing apples and oranges both are great it just depends on what you want at the time!

Great fuel efficiency, only thing I don’t like is the sound, took the resonator off and it a little louder, definitely won’t go straight pipe, but definitely getting a charger pipe with bov and a cold air intake. Later on I’ll get a crack n pop tune. Tbh when I’m finished, it won’t be a bad build for a 4 cylinder.

Because in the US we are still hard up for the old school muscle cars of the 60s and 70s. I grew up with 4 cyl vehicles from Datsun 610 wagons, Nissan Sentra, Acura Integras and even 4 cylinder Honda Accord and Fit. I only recently got into the 6.7 Powerstroke. And I’m looking at buying either a 240sx or a SC300. But I could easily buy a Crown Vic or a SC400 both V8s. If I ever get a Mustang I would get a coyote 5.0. I don’t hate 4 cylinders I like them but at this point in time I’m looking to have a 6 or 8 cylinder coupe for my next ride as I already had fun with my 4cyl vehicles

I don't hate 4 bangers... It's the over-saturated crowd of Ricer's that think their 16sec 1/4mi shitbox is the best thing on 4 wheels that I cant stand. There are some serious performance 4 cylinders out there, but the majority that you see driving on the street is base model Civics (or similar), usually with a primer coat on at least 1 body panel, with a loud ass fart can screaming at 7000rpm while barely hitting 20mph.

I grew up driving 70’s V8 muscle cars and for the longest time couldn’t stand 4cyl cars, now I have a 2020 Mustang Ecoboost HPP and couldn’t be happier with it. At 330hp the 4cyl makes more power than a lot of V8’s from 10+ years ago and with the weight difference the Mustang Ecoboost actually handles better than the Mustang GT’s. I feel the 4cyl has come a long way from what they used to be but they still get a lot of hate especially in something like a muscle car.

I remember when 4 cylinders use to be a joke cause just getting on the highway with them was not fun they were slow and took forever to speed up the only good thing they was reliable and good gas mileage but with new technology and turbos being added 4 cylinders have become fast beefy and have fantastic pickup now they feel like your v6 and some of these 4 cylinders now drive and pick up speed so well that if you didn't know no better you would think it was a v6 and they still keep there good gas mileage and reliability but we need the thank the advances of technology for a lot of this.

I'm a 6 cylinder fan. They have to work less than 4 cylinders and they have less moving parts than 8+ cylinders, which in my mind means they have less of a probability of a part breaking. The more parts the more chances for something to break. They also just seem to be better balanced than four cylinders. My family's 6 cylinders haven't failed us. Neither had my dad's F-150 4.6L V8, but it's a Ford F-150, what else do you expect besides a reliable engine?
