Thanks...per your CZcams name, if you have a Raptor, you'll have a blast on the Mojave Road.

fantastic!! i stay near the west end of the Road frequently/ the east parts less often but all of it is spectacular thanks for taking us along/ i only get to the 2wd access points myself but see a lot of you overlanders passing through/ awesome to get a look this way with you thanks for taking us along. "pie oot" or "pie ute" might be a pronunciation you can understand for Paiute, hard to use the right words... the US was fighting the Natives yes, at the time there was a good spring there. the US Cavalry often took Springs from Natives and put Forts around them so travelers could use them safely, and the Natives could/ die. This was The Road to get West... SO yes mining but also ranching and homesteading, and for travelers was the main reason for the Fort. There was more water 150 years ago. The entire area west to central MNPreserve had more water before widespread wells and use, weather and overuse made it too difficult for real survival. Lanfair Valley is another of my favorite areas, nice to see... // that is a nice canyon but usually people call the west end the Grand Canyon of the Mojave " as you probably saw later... i'll be out there next week hooray/..

You can do the whole Mojave Road with 2WD, but if you do, I would not do it solo. Hopfuly you'll have good weather as I did, it was really nice, days were sunny and 55-65 degrees, with zero wind the whole week.

Every once in a while I either come-up with something or see something somewhere and I make a shirt out of it...this one was dedicated to my X 🙂

The Mojave Grand Canyon is the west side of Ft Piute…

You didn't mention passing Piute Corral, but your campsite is near the one we stayed at. It's past the corral. Never heard it called Grand Canyon of the Mojave. We called it Piute Cyn. If you follow the creek up from Fort Piute, you come out below where we camped. The hiking trail goes up from there to our campsite.

I was driving not hiking...I got to Piute Fort, than turned around and took the driving trail to the spot I camped at (I'm not sure what is the official name of it)

That area is designated a future National Monument …. All the way to Christmas tree pass.

    • @DxDOverland

@@LongdistanceRider22 Mojave Trails National Monument was designated by President Obama and borders the Mojave National Preserve, which this area is within. Are you saying there are plans to merge the NPS managed preserve into the BLM managed natl mon? That does not, however extend to the Christmas Tree Pass I'm familiar with in NV. But that would be cool, if it can be made to happen. It's up to the president; he has that power.

@@LongdistanceRider22 Excellent. This area, like Grand Staircase-Escalante and Owyhee Canyonlands, offers the overlanding community a great resource to pursue our pastime. Here's hoping we do it while preserving it for future generations!

Fort Piute (I think pronounced Pie-Ute-A) - You didn't quite go far enough on the foot trail, there are dozens of petroglyphs in the rocks just above the creek bed and near the foot trail. If you read the signs, the Army set up there to prevent the Indians from having access to the water.
