Mirepoix , One of the Best Farmers' Markets in France!
If your dream is to see an authentic, old style open air market in France, this is it. This one is FABULOUS. It takes place every Monday in the town of Mirepoix.
With the 13th century house facades as a background and a ring of old covered cafes all around, you feel that you have stepped back in time.
Produce, lots of local produce, cured meats, cheese, plants, clothes, live birds, baked goods, take-out food, woven baskets, hats, you name it, they have it.
There’s even a merry-go-round for the kids.
It is a very busy place that attracts the locals as they have been shopping for their daily needs at this community event for generations. It is noisy and colorful… It is unbelievable.
Before we take a peek at the back streets, let me take you for just a minute to the inside of the church, located right here, on the same market square. As you will see, the church is quite impressive for such a small town…
If you leave the central market square to explore the “behind the scene”, do take a stroll through the small back streets - Some interesting small shops and scenes will catch your attention…
