Welcome to Sabaton world 🤟 23 years and 100+ amazing songs and 90% is all about war history! Also singer Joachim and bass guitarist Pär is the song writers. They got a history channel explaining most of there songs here on YT 🇸🇪👍 I allways compared Sabaton to a Metal Trubadur band! I recommend "Screaming Eagles" official video, 1 of their best productions pre computer effects.
The song is written in the perspective of a soldier who died on what is known as White Friday (referred to in the song) watching over all of the other battles that happened in the region throughout the time after his death. White Friday occurred on Dec 13, 1916 a series of avalanches killed between 2000 and 10000 soldiers on both sides. There's a belief that both sides fired artillery in the mountains to cause the avalanches which is the reason for the explosions on the mountainside in the video
So many people think that this song is about combat in the Italian WWI front. But what you say is true. White friday, as they say in the chorus, is exactly what you say.
They have a lot of great songs about all the wars in time.

Great reaction :) When this occured,both sides actually fired artillery onto the mountainsides on purpose to try and start more avalanches to bury the other side in snow. I think that's what they are trying to depict with those explosions going on. If I may suggest a few more videos worth checking out you really should go for No bullets Fly, 82nd all the way,Last Stand, En livstid i krig (live in gothenburg 2020,turn on CC ) and the winged hussars.
Love your reaction...as a Sabaton fan for a decade I love when people take time to dive into their epic music. Liked a d subscribed awaiting further reactions. The Red biplane...the red baron...video depicts that the soldiers stand their watch during WWI and since they are frozen in time...they still stand watch to modern times.

New follower here! I first found your Sweden reaction video (those are often fun to watch, being Swedish and all), then I saw that you had reacted to Sabaton. I've been a fan of them since early 2000s and it's been incredible to watch them grow into what they are today. 20 years and stronger than ever, and they're still evolving their music.
You're right about them writing their own music and lyrics. Joakim, the singer, is the main composer for the band, writing pretty much all of the music. For most songs, Joakim and Per, the base player, collaborate on the lyrics, with some guest appearances from the other band members on certain songs.
A fun fact: Joakim originally joined the band as a keyboardist before the release of their first album but since they didn't have a singer for the first demo, he got handed the job by the other band members. It was supposed to be a temporary thing but they never actually searched for a singer, so he got stuck with the job. And as they say... the rest is history. :P

The opening lines about "I won't be coming home. I won't be going anywhere. I will guard this post forever" is not as much of a metaphor as you may think.
There are many soldiers who were killed by those avalanches who are still there today.
Sabaton is one of my all-time favourite bands, their live shows are damn near unbeatable! I've seen them live 9 times and counting and the ONLY band I've seen that topped their show was Rammstein!
The "predator cloak" of the soldier is the ghost of a fallen soldier still guarding his post, watching the rest of the war.
Oh, Rush has a few songs (nothing like Sabaton, but a just a few songs) like Manhattan Project, about historical events. It's not the same, but since you said you'd never heard of any I'm not sure if you've ever heard Rush.

For a live performance video I can recommend "en livstid I krig " live from Göteborg Sweden, in Swedish but there are subtitles (not perfect but they will get the message across)
I see you are continuing your journey down the rabbithole of Sabaton's music. Enjoy. It sure is a unique way of preserving history, don't you think? I'm still waiting on your reaction to their song No Bullets Fly - specifically the animated story. And keep in mind to watch the videos to the very end.
That said, I have another recommendation for you which though connected to Sabaton is a different rabbithole in itself: Nightwish. Specifically the song "Ghost Love Score" from Wacken 2013 (it has the least amount of copyright hassle attached and is a bit of a staple among reactors). Be warned, doing a reaction on that song may well summon the Nightwish Army to your channel.

About 6 month late to this video. But I have to recommend "Sabaton - En livstid i krig". It's not a music video. But a true consert in Swedish (so keep the the subtitles). It's a song of the men who go to war och their concern how they will be remebered. Hope you like it.

Not only is he not going to be able to close it anytime soon, there is another door in there, to another similarly huge rabbithole through the connection between Hannes and Floor: Nightwish.

Joakim Brodén (lead singer) writes the majority of the music and lyrics but he quite often co-writes the music with some other band member.
Pär Sundström (bassist) has written the lyrics for a couple of songs.
According to Joakim he/they usually writes the music first and the lyrics comes later.
