    Contents:
    0:00 - Intro;
    0:25 - System disk scan
    2:23 - Checking an external drive, memory card, or USB drive
    For example, the computer is slow to start or shut down, there are sudden system restarts, freezing when it works with files and so on. You don’t have to install any other programs - all you need is already in your system.
    To scan the system disk for errors and fix them (in a Windows operating system) you should execute the command chkdsk in the command prompt started as administrator. The command chkdsk works only with disks formatted in an NTFS or FAT32 system.
    To do it, right-click on the Start menu and click on Command Prompt (Administrator). Then enter the command chksk and the drive letter for the disk you want to check for errors (in my case, that is disk C). Then you should enter the parameter /f which makes errors to be fixed automatically, and the parameter /r which checks damaged sectors and tries to recover information. Press Enter.
    As we are checking a hard disk currently used by the system, we get this message: “Cannot lock the current drive. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in used by another process.”
    Type Y, press Enter and see this message: “This volume will be checked the next time the system restarts.” After that, go to the Start menu and restart the PC.
    Don’t touch anything on your keyboard, and now you can see this in the next window: "Scanning and repairing drive (C:) ". It means that the command chkdsk is working and you should just wait for the process to be completed. Scanning and correcting errors can take up quite a long time. After the process is over, you will see statistics on the scanned data, found errors and damaged sectors.
    To check an external disk, a memory card or a USB drive you can use a Windows utility. To do it, go to This PC, right-click on the necessary disk (in my case, this is disk E) and select Properties. In the Tools tab, click on Check. In my case, Windows 10 tells me a disk scan is not required, but you can force such check by clicking on Scan and repair drive. Do it and wait until the scanning is over. In my case, Windows has found no errors. Also, you can use the command chkdsk to check an external disk, a memory card or a USB drive. When you do it, these drives are not used by the system, so you won’t have to restart the PC.

    What happens if it says Scanning and repair 100%? Does it means the problem is gone?

    I did a windows reset.
    I have an ssd for os
    And Two m.2 ssd for storage space.
    After the reset(remove files,clean drives)
    Pc boots normally and perfect.
    Although I get the
    Error in notification bar.
    "Check disk for errors"
    Not sure what drive can be causing the errors since the m.2 ssds are empty and the only one with files is the ssd with "os"

      @@HetmanRecovery yes I have!! I tried again recently after fixing it and weirdly in safe mode it said they were fine but if I scanned it it said they found errors, but didn’t prompt a fix, and every other way to scan said they were fine in and out of safe mode so I assume they’re fine. In regular windows everything is good and healthy now, tried to double check cuz steam opening slower the past few months but seems like a separate issue.

      Using System File Checker in Windows 10
      Applies to: Windows 10
      System File Checker is a utility in Windows 10 that checks for problems with files on your computer. To run it, follow these steps:
      Make sure you've installed the latest updates for Windows 10, and then restart your machine. To find out more, read Update Windows 10.
      In the search box on the taskbar, type Command Prompt, and right-click or press and hold Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the list of results. Select Run as administrator, and then select Yes.
      Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the space before each "/"), and then press Enter. (Note: This step may take a few minutes to start and up to 30 minutes to complete.)
      After you see a message that says "The operation completed successfully," type sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/") and press Enter.
      After you see a message that says, "Verification 100% complete," type exit.

    I tried to scan and repair my external hdd which became really slow for some reason. The Error checking dialogue box displays time required for completion, the problem is that the time keeps increasing, I've been waiting and it now says it'll take about more 3 days to fix it and it's still increasing

    • @HetmanRecovery
      @HetmanRecovery  Před 6 lety

      If you don't want wait so long, save needed files on a separate drive, delete all partitions and partition it.

      Hetman Recovery A year ago, a similar problem occurred on my older drive, I transfered all the files to the current one and formatted that, the old one was working fine. The current one seems to be facing the same issue, do you think it's my usage pattern that deteriorated the data transfer rate?

      During the operation of the operating system, various errors inevitably appear, including reading/writing data errors. This leads to more serious errors in the entire structure of the disk.

    Can this cause video games to freezing and run bad?

    • @_spooT
      @_spooT Před 3 lety

      freezing is either due to a faulty HDD on where ur game is installed, graphics card and othr drivers are outdated, bad sectors and/or corrupt files in your system. The operation in the video helps in checking and repairing the drive. Checking and repairing DOES NOT cause your game to run bad. Always keep your drivers updated. Sometimes, after a couple of years, it's best to replace your hard drive since eventually it will start to have bad sectors and while windows can help you repair them, they will eventually get worse and worse as to corrupting some of your files

      What error does it give?
      At which step did the error occur?
