I wish we could ALL go back to living in 1979 and explore it all over again!

The Teardrop Explodes are the definition of "criminally overlooked" bands.

I was lucky enough to see The Teardrop Explodes (and Echo and the Bunnymen) play live lots of times in 1980-81. Julian Cope was an extraordinary, charismatic performer and a fabulously funky bass player. He's still wonderful.

Why isn't JC quoted as more of an influence to today's music? He is a talented songwriter with the most amazing voice, which still prevails if you see him live now. Love love!

Have you read ' Head On ' by Julian Cope, it's a fantastic read and Gary (your grandfather ) comes across as a great guy.
And one of the few people that Julian Cope has a good word for.

Wow, he's a GrandDad!, Who'd a thought it! In my opinion (and I've held this opinion since early 1980's) is that Garry Dwyer is the best drummer in the world - nice now to be able to say that to people who may agree with me!

I believe you. I was 11 in 79 and the idea of a New Wave musician ever being referred to as a Grandparent still seems weird to me though.

The most under-rated out of all the Liverpool artists that came out of that post punk scene of the late 70s early 80s. Highly criminal that The Wild Swans "The Coldest Winter For A Hundred Years" album from 2011 got ignored by the general public,as it was Paul Simpson's masterpiece. Look forward to the new Wild Swans album, hopefully later this year

On reflection I actually prefer these stripped down/less produced versions. Especially Ha Ha I'm Drowning... but ONLY if played at high volume. The guitar on Ha Ha...etc. is superb.

One of my pet peeves is people who leave the word “the” out of “The Teardrop Explodes”. They’re not “Teardrop Explodes”. There’s no poetry and mystery without the “the”.
(Although The The themselves are fine).
